I would definitely not be dropping off that age, regardless of if it was someone I knew. That's just too young for me and I know the hosts are busy and can't keep an eye on every child.
A private residence vs party place would not have any impact on my decision either.
My daughter went to a drop off party place at the mall when she was 7 and part of the package included pizza and cake. The party people were supposed to transition them into a special eating area. They forgot my daughter and I found her standing by herself in the mall in the middle of all the people walking from store to store. She was outside of the party place just standing there looking around for her friends.

Kids whose parents I know well, I do sometimes drop off. But then again, I LIKE some of those parents and tend to hang around. If I don't know them well -- I stay. The expectation of drop off starts around first grade, around here
