I gotta give t to Rand Paul. Hes like we printed this 700 page bill at midnight and no one read it. I ran because I didnt like trillion dollar deficits when Obama wanted them I dont like them now just because its my party offering them. At least hes standing up for what he really ran for? But he voted for the tax bill...

So I have a question. I think Porter is a despicable man for what he did—but what about the DV means he shouldn’t have security clearance? Did he lie about it? Has he actually been convicted and you can’t have committed crimes? I feel awful sort of defending him. I’m not really. I just think I’m missing information. Why is there a connection? I think... He's potentially/allegedly committed a felony. It suggests he can't be trusted. That he might have a temper or act rashly. That he may be hiding other things that make him susceptible to blackmail.

Yes, DV affects a security clearance. It shows lack of stability and judgment. Credit score plays into as well. Probably seems random but it shows a lot when you are going to be trusted with sensitive information. You can be more easily compromised if you are in a mountain of debt.

Normally when you hire someone, don't you wait for the investigation to be complete before you hire them? For my H, his hiring was contingent on being granted a security clearance. He was offered the job and hired in late 2014. His clearance was granted late 2015, and he started spring 2016. He wasn’t allowed to start working until he got it. On the other side of things, I have friend who started the clearance process last month and is starting his job next month without it being granted.

Anything you can be blackmailed for is a strike against you. It came up a lot during my interview when we started talking about past credit issues and when I had PPD with DS1

Has anyone, other than Trump, come out in support of the military parade? Mattis kind of shrugged about it and that's the most positive reaction I've seen from anyone

Increased funding for abstinence only sex Ed programs?!?! By all means, keep funding stuff THAT DOESN’T WORK I'll just tag all necessary parties on Twitter in a post that will be a picture of my smiling students learning how to put condoms on wooden dildos.

I'm going to nerd out about PressSec stuff for a second so feel free to TL;DR and keep a'scrollin
Today's briefing felt, to me, like the first "normal" briefing since January 20, 2017. Spicer, but moreso Sanders, absolutely perform for an audience of one. They aren't in the Brady Room speaking to the journalists, they are speaking to Trump. And his base. They are performing.
Perino, Carney, Earnest-- they went into that room and had dialogue with the press. Of course it was adversarial at times. Of course there was pushback from one "side" or the other at times. But there simply wasn't this constant combative tone.
I have my criticisms of the Obama administration and their attitude toward transparency. But Jay Carney (just to name my favorite) stood at that podium for AN HOUR every day taking questions. He didn't rely on canned responses (sometimes he had prepared bullet points, which I expect came from Counsel), he didn't raise his voice or get snippy, he didn't use bullshit buzz words or slogans. He didn't Stonewall anywhere near the way the Trump WH does. He took questions. He listened intently to follow up questions and tried to answer them. He tried to have a dialog with the reporters.
Today, Raj looked like a Press Secretary. I didn't like everything he said, but he was professional, he managed to at least uphold the appearance of cooperative transparency, and he didn't get flustered and go on the attack.

It came up a lot during my interview when we started talking about past credit issues and when I had PPD with DS1 Which is one reason the OPM hack was soooooo so bad. Not just bc it exposed our personal data (name, address, SSN, every prior address and employer) but anything sensitive the government knew or uncovered that could possibly be used against us.

When I was getting my clearance, I had to be working at the company in order to get the clearance. I was stuck reading manuals for weeks before I got my interim clearance. Once I got that, I had a lot more freedom to work. There was a specific level I was allowed access to until I got my full clearance.

Especially if it's just secret and not SCI. Federal agencies do it this way too IME.

It's nearly impossible to get a job without having clearance because most companies just aren't willing to front the cost.

In fact I've known a couple of people who came out of the military certain that their existing clearance would guarantee them a job in NatSec and it didn't pan out at all

It has to do with where the available office space is. Most is in closed offices either on base or at companies where everything is in the closed area. If you don't have a clearance, you basically can't work, so they're not really into it. There were so many jobs I was turned down for because I just didn't have a clearance.

Daily Beast reporting that WH was accusing Lewandowki of pushing the bad Porter story. Could this all have come out due to jealousy over Hope Hicks’ New squeeze? Wasn’t Corey also accused of assauting a reporter during the campaign
