What kind of couch do you dig?
Fabric? Leather/leather-like synthetic? Something I haven't considered?
Tried talking DH into a new couch when we move and realized we have vastly different tastes. (Aside from our dining room table, we have never furniture shopped together.)
ETA: I'm optimistic this poll will prove he's wrong.

It depends on the space. I have fabric now and want to replace with leather. But not due to stains. I’m not sure what space age scot guard they put on that thing, but the fucker resists all stains.

Fabric even though I’m sure leather would be easier to clean. I just like how fabric looks and feels.

Fabric, always. One couch is microfiber treated with stain protector. The other is an IKEA couch with a removable cover I can throw in the wash.

I voted fabric but I do care about stains. I got a coated fabric that is stain resistant and a lifetime warranty on the couches. I know there are companies that will come spray anything you have as well, so you can always do it after the fact.
We had leather at our old house and it was super easy to clean, but it's not my favorite look and I think fabric is more comfortable (in general).

Due to dogs and kid I am firmly in the cloth camp. They put some sort of protective spray on it. Ain't nothing staining this baby. And if it does get stained, they will come clean it for free.

Fabric but I care about stains. The kid isn't allowed to eat or drink on the couch and the dog is not allowed on the couch. It's dark gray and cleans easily.

We have some type of leather and I actually have never noticed sticking to it or anything. Super easy to clean with kids (just wipe off!) and I make it cozier with throw pillows and blankets

We currently have a fabric/"faux pleather" (I swear, that's what the tag says) that's kind of the best of both worlds. The arms can be wiped down. The couch is comfy. I'd like something fabric. DH wants... like the leather/recliner/has a place to plug in your phone kind of couch. Like this behemoth.

Fabric. I usually am looking to relax on a couch, not have my ass automatically frozen for me. Scotch guard and go.

On new years, a child got a hold of markers from DH's office. Our fabric couch has been markered... Not sure it's worth getting professionally cleaned at this point. (I'm 90% sure which child this is... pretty sure it's the one who hid salami throughout my house a few years before that.)

My husband is dying for a couch like that but I just can’t. It’s just not my style.

Fabric.
But I would like my couch to charge my phone for me.

Fabric with a little woven texture to it and Resolve upholstery cleaner. I hate leather couches that fart every time you move.

Leather- but only if it’s quality. Otherwise, fabric.

The middle cushion folds down, has two cupholders, and electrical plugs.

Dedicated basement TV room? Maybe.

I am all about the leather. It can be “distressed” and still look ok, where stained fabric would bother me, and slip covers are another thing I can’t add to my laundry list.
We have a big cognac leather couch that is cozy as shit and I can had the kids a wipe each and they clean it daily.

I say fabric that’s stain guarded. To me leather is hard to pull off in lots of spaces.

We had a leather couch for 15 years b/c when we bought, leather was the thing. It ended up being great b/c around year 10, we had a baby, and milk/formula and other stains were easily wiped away.
Now that he's older, we got a fabric couch (which I prefer the look of, to leather), and it's fine b/c we have an open concept space so all eating/drinking can be done at the kitchen table, which is behind the couch.

We have a leather hand me down right now. It's fine but I'd like to get a cloth sectional that's stain guarded. We have never picked out our own couch before. This is the second hand me down couch. Free is awesome, but I'd like to pick something out myself.

I dislike fabric couches, like I dislike socks. They make my feet hot.
I love the cool side of the pillow aspect of leather on my feet.

My cat fucked up my leather couch so now I have a fabric couch with a cover on it. But I like leather

I don't mind leather because if it's cold in the house I'm well covered including socks. If it's hot the cool leather feels good. But I like the look of fabric better.

Fabric. I’ve had lovely soft leather, bonded leather, and fabric couches and the fabric has always been the most comfy.
We are also in the market for a new couch. The beige ones from our old formal living room are not holding up to everyday use

We have leather furniture in the finished basement. It's good for large sleepovers with food & drinks. I don't like personally sitting on it for everyday furniture.
Also, if that's going to be your only seating, I'd do a couch & loveseat over a sectional so there's some separation and you don't always feel on top of each other.
