I probably over pack, but I like having my own things instead of staying in the hospital gown.

In my hospital bag I'm planning on taking -sweatpants/tshirts -robe -flip flops -slippers -makeup -dry shampoo -baby book -camera/camcorder and assorted chargers -cell phone charger -pillow/blanket for the H -deodorant -toothpaste/toothbrush -2 outfits for the baby -snacks?
I feel like I'm forgetting somethings though. Last time I took the nursing pillow which was pointless. I'm not even sure I want to bring the diaper bag, which I did last time. I mean, they pretty much gave me everything the baby would need while we were there?
For post partum necessities.. -pads (ugh) -dermoplast -tucks -angel mama bottom balm -cabbage -colace -wine
Last time they gave me dermoplast and tucks but I'm afraid they won't this time so I'm going to stock up just in case. I still have some of those pads that freeze from last time but I really didn't like them all that much.

I've been trying to remember what I brought last time. We live just a couple blocks from the hospital so it's easy for MH to run back and get anything I need. My list so far is:
-sweat pants, T-shirt, socks and underwear for going home -a comfy, oversized cardigan to wear over hospital gown (I wore hospital gowns until I was discharged last time) -extra socks and underwear -slippers -toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, face wash, face cream, chapstick -phones and chargers
-swaddling blankets -a couple of sleepers (newborn and 0-3 month size) -scratch mitts -soother
-muffins (and other snacks) -vitamin water -Lax-a-day
Last time my hospital provided pads, peri bottle, diapers, wipes, vaseline, and formula bottles with nipples. I have to check to make sure they'll provide all of that this time.

I definitely over packed with DD1 so I'm trying to not pack as much this time.
So far on my list:
-leggings/sweatpants -t-shirt/comfortable top -nursing bra -panties I wouldn't mind throwing out -slippers -flip flops -pads -makeup -toiletries for shower -phone charger -snacks
For baby: -newborn and 0-3 months outfit -diapers -wipes -pacifier -receiving blanket -hat -socks -baby book
I took a robe last time but never used it. And I can't decide if I want to take my boppy pillow or not.

cp3 take the pillow if you plan to use it to BF - My LC helped me is it to position DD and it was helpful to have it there. It was also SUPER useful when people came to visit. They all used it to help hold her for whatever reason. I’m getting a pretty cover for mine bc I think it’ll end up in a lot of the pictures of DD and the new LO.

I way overpacked last time.
I don't regret bringing the stuff that made me feel more human, like my own nightgown, robe, slippers, shampoo and body wash, even makeup. I'll do all that again.
Things I didn't bring that I will this time: cash for takeout/food delivery, flipflops for the shower, a nursing pillow if I plan to BF again, the iPad for entertainment after I get the epi. My favorite heating pad.
Things I won't bother with: anything for baby besides the carseat and going home outfit. Underwear (mesh panties all the way). Any post partum recovery stuff---I got wads of it from the hospital last time. The pump (the hospital's is better anyway should I need it). And of course all of the "natural" childbirth shit I brought last time that was useless, like the essential oils and massage balls and blah blah blah. Lol.

We had brought my Boppy the first time and struggled so badly...I would recommend getting the My Brest Friend pillow instead to any FTMs interested in nursing. It buckles on and I found the head positioning for baby WAY easier at the beginning. They sold them at my hospital and at the recommendation of all the nurses in L&D, MH bought one on the spot and it helped. Just my two cents on the nursing pillow thing.

Post vomit all up in here, sorry. Seeing tinyjoys list reminds me that I need to pack a bag for DS too because he will probably be staying with friends for a few days. Ugh. That's going to be harder to do in advance, not knowing if it will be during the school week or what. What a pain.

Basically, they have to pass our house to get out of town to go anywhere, so whatever I don't pack or they need refills on, they can stop & pick up. ETA: also: Tommy is my husband. I didn't think to write a packing list for the big kids.

I’ve got to pack a bag for my husband, too. Like, a spare tee shirt and tooth brush and pajama pants and stuff - I have no idea what time of day we’ll get there and if he’ll will be able to stay at the hospital with me overnight, but I hope so.
Cash for the parking garage.

I was team hospital gown with #1 and with #2 I loved having a set of pajamas. Like, loose drawstring flannel bottoms and matching top which buttons down - it was great for nursing, and I felt put-together. I wore a target nursing tank underneath.
The first shower I took, both times, was the best shower of my life. So some toiletries are def on the list.
I want to make sure I get an extra phone charger so that I don’t have to remember mine from my bedroom at go time.
My real camera - I want to bring it, with a charged battery.

I don't remember if we packed anything for Mh last time. We live about 10 minutes away from the hospital so last time my mom came to the hospital in the morning and Mh went home to shower and change there. We'll probably do the same this time around.
Dd1 will be staying with my in laws at our house so we won't need to pack a bag for her just need to make sure we leave a carseat at home for her.

omg does anyone want a laugh? Last time we packed a couple of baby books in our hospital bag. Not like the Baby Book to have footprinted (we had that too) but like, board books. To read to the baby. In the hospital. Poor, sad first time mom calendula had no idea what was coming.

If everything goes according to plan, my parents will watch DD at our house. Now if baby decides he wants to come early, I have no idea what I'll do as a Plan B. The really good thing is I live about 5 minutes from the hospital, so if I forget anything it's easy to send my DH home to go get it.
Right now I'm planning on: Coming home outfit for DS PJs for me Outfit to come home in for me Phone charger Kindle Maybe iPad
The hospital had everything I needed for post partum care last time and baby care.

One thing DH and I did on accident that ended up working well was to pack a bag of essentials and then put all the “maybes” in another bag. We left the “maybe” bag in the car and was able to get it once things were more settled and I had a better idea of what I needed. (Maybe not a great option if your car is super far away though.)
We also randomly had an ikea bag in the trunk and that was insanely useful for carrying out all the gifts, postpartum supplies, etc managed to acquire. We’ll definitely do that again.

i will also be following this. i did a craptastic job last time. i feel like i overpacked for baby and underpacked for me. i didn’t really end up using the clothes/sleepers i packed for dd - just kept her in the tops they provided with a diaper and hat all swaddled in the hospital’s blankets until i changed her into going home outfit (i didn’t want to worry about losing her clothes or having to deal with bringing dirty laundry of hers home). i went in on a friday night for an induction and didn’t even pack pajamas for myself, wtf.

i like the idea of having separate essentials/maybe bag. my sil also did 2 bags - stuff for room before baby and then post partum room so they didn’t have to drag everything around. her h just grabbed the stuff they needed for after from their car once they changed rooms. i was in the same room for everything last time so it would never have occurred to me to do that this time around.

This is a really good idea. We will move rooms after baby is born so now I think I'll do a separate bag for after care and baby items since we won't need it in the labor/delivery room.

The things I remember being really happy to have packed last time included:
-My own bath towel, hand towel, and wash cloth (the hospital ones were scratchy and tiny) -Flip-flops for shower -My own toiletries and hair stuff so I felt human again after my shower -Comfy socks -Several different types of snacks (something sweet, breakfast bars, something salty, and hard candies)

Black ikea bath sheets are huge, cheap ($10), and very absorbant. I know I’ve mentioned them before but they are THE BEST for post partum showers. It was so nice to dry off without rushing and with the option to toss it if it was just absolutely gross.
