Tonight suuuucks. He slept for less than 3 hours even co-sleeping and I can’t get him back to sleep now. 😭😭😭 Sorry about your night too! Ours was so so. I think DH woke her up by putting a hat on her at 5:30am so I pulled her in bed with me and did side lying nursing for the first time with her....I can't wait until these babies are more durable and that is more relaxing! (not to wish time away...)

I feel like all of our babies got together to plot against us this week! My babe has gone the wrong way this week too ajetter! I let her extended fuss a bit at 2 and we both went to sleep. I was like ok, 1 minute, and then she’d be quiet for a few, fuss again, quiet and at some point we both let sleep win over.

rebeccabunch I probably need to do that. Her eyes aren’t open and she isn’t screaming, but it’s definitely more upset than just grunting. She slept from 10-2:40 (I know, still not a terrible stretch), but then she slept from 3:15 to 8. So same amount that she usually sleeps at night, but just consolidated differently. 🤷🏼♀️ I thought she was waking up at 6:30 and just continued to be loud until I got her at 8.

What do y'all do in the evening as it's approaching "bedtime" but baby is passed out? Some nights I have let him sleep and some nights I have woke him up, and neither seem to turn out well...

I’m much earlier in the process than most of you, but I have the same policy with my newborn and my toddler, which is to let them sleep when they are sleeping. I try to keep them up when they are awake at the “right” time, but once they are down I let things run their course. I find waking them leads to grumpiness and then it doesn’t fix the timing later anyway. That said, my toddler is a good sleeper generally and my baby is only 9 days old so he is all over the place anyway, so grain of salt.

hi!
My milk is coming in tonight it appears. I have killer cramping right now though from all the nursing O is doing.
My H promised to check with me on how I was doing before bed so I could pee, etc.. And he's passed out with DD1. Which is fine but I need to pee and all that and DD2 is alert during night time.
How do I flip these day/night? I'll happily wake 5x a night but I'd like to have a plan and not play w an alert baby at night lol.

I’m probably going to jinx myself... but I’m amazed at how infrequently this baby spits up. His older brother would have spit up at least once a meal, every time he was changed, and plenty in between. We went through so many burp cloths, outfits (his and mine), swaddling blankets, etc. It went on for ages after most kids grow out of it too. I wonder if maybe DS1 inherited his Dad’s sensitive digestive system and DS2 got mine 😛

E has finished nursing but I don’t want to put her down because I want to keep warming her up. (Our power is out so the heat is off, and our house is cold.) Her little hands were so cold when I picked her up. ☹️
And DD1 absolutely refused to let me put a warm blanket on her. So she’s certainly frigid. But she’s sleeping...I guess she’ll wake up complaining when she’s ready to give in?
Man, losing power used to be exciting as a kid. Now it just sucks.

I’ve been up since 2:45...for no reason. Insomnia can suck it.

We just had the day/night mixup run its course which for us lasted a few weeks. From all my googling it said that there is nothing you can really do to “train” them to switch nights and days at that age so you have to suffer through it.

So I don’t want to jinx it but baby gave us two 4.5 hour stretches last night. Please please please let this be the new normal.

If she’s sleeping I generally do more or less of a dream feed. Wake her to eat, but keep it as if it were a MOTN feed. I have no evidence that this does anything magical. Lolol.

snowyowl I’m jealous. All four of mine have been horribly spitty. I just did 3 days worth of kids laundry and it included 16 burp cloths. DD3 would still spit up on occasion through 18 months, and honestly once every couple of months after that stuff still randomly comes out. I’m baffled by children that don’t spit up. Does not compute.

I’m still up. At 6 I said fuck it and decided to shower while they are still asleep. What is wrong with me?!! Why don’t I sleep? If I take even a small dose of a sleep aid, I basically become unconscious so that won’t work. If I take melatonin I get ridiculous vivid nightmares and even slow acting doesn’t keep me asleep all night. I should be used to this shit after 30+ years but alas, I’m still tired.

What time frame are you talking? DS usually falls asleep for the night around 7. Depending on when he last fed I will wake him again at that interval to feed so I can go to bed (he is every 3 hours during the day so usually this ends up being between 8-9pm) & I have sort of been treating it as a dream feed since he is sooo passed out. Then I can go to bed & he won’t wake up again until 2-3. Most nights it works.

snowyowl similar here. DS1 spit up every time he ate. DS2 just does it occasionally but when he does it is massive spit up.

ajetter the pediatrician we saw last weekend recommended kit burping DS2 to help control the spit up. He said when you make them burp you force all the air plus any milk up and so that’s why they spit up so much. He told us to put him upright on our chest for 15-20 minutes instead and he would burp on his own if need be. We’ve seen a huge difference in the amount of spit up.

During one of J’s MOTN feeds, I started the recent episode of This Is Us. J feel asleep fast but I stayed up to finish the show. Then... I couldn’t fall back asleep because I was thinking of the show.

Sometimes she spits up while she is still actively nursing. So that’s fun. I think she’s just spitty by nature, I wouldn’t say I do any excessive burping. Mostly just stick her up on my shoulder. But it’s goid to hear that advice because sometimes I wondered if it was because I didn’t burp enough. 🤷🏼♀️

I forgot to mention.... J gave us the longest stretch between feedings last night. It is probably a fluke but we will take it! Fed and 8P and then again at 1A!!

I always wake her to feed at 10 and usually this is when we get out good stretch. Hopefully you can play around with it and find a good time for your babe.

Basically I’ve been trying to keep DS from thinking his big stretch starts when he falls asleep (which is sometimes as early as 6:30). So I’m trying to feed him again within an hour or two of that so the big stretch between feedings comes after. If that makes sense?
