I am the opposite, DH likes everything complete bare and clean. I like having a few things that bring me joy on my nightstand for instance, and he has zero. Not a single thing. I need to take the zero approach too. Otherwise one thing leads to 10 and then it's a pile.

Loved this thread last year (thanks Tlex!) and can't wait to do it again. There are some areas/categories I've been avoiding but it's finally time to just do it. +whatever to MH being messy AF. He also can't seem to get rid of anything. We're almost to the point where all the crap left in the house is his and I'm dreading it.

I managed to do my side of the closet today, as well as my nightstand (3 drawers). I freed up a ton of room! It feels amazing!

I apply certain aspects to my stuff. I really like her way of folding clothes but everything I pull out an item everything falls over.

I'm starting in my closet today. I haven't read the book but I've followed the threads and since I feel Motivated I'm jumping in. I'm going to see if the book is available on Kindle and start that too.
I also think I might have gotten MH on board

I really need to try this, or at least certain aspects. I'm the pile keeper and it drives MH crazy. With 2 kids and 2 dogs now it's getting out of control.

I watched a youtube video on it when I was doing clothes. It wasn't too hard to catch on. I didn't think it would work, but they've been standing perfectly for over a year. Plus, I really like how it gives me extra room and I can see everything.

I feel like most of the random crap in our house is either his stuff or things of ours that we never use and he won't let me get rid of. I think we're both pile-makers though. Our big difference there is that I occasionally motivate myself to do something about the piles and he just makes them and then bitches when he has no place to put stuff down when he comes home from work.

I wish I had a dresser for myself. Here’s one of DS’s drawers. Long sleeve T-shirts on one side and short sleeves on the other:

I really need to get myself on board with this. But I can only do a room/area at a time. I can't do a category at a time. And how do I do toys? Because my kid's toys bring me very little joy. I struggled a little with categories vs rooms because I prefer to go by rooms too, but deciding to commit and do it "right" made a big difference in my outlook and ultimately in how much I kept. I was constantly getting rid of things and trying to declutter, but actually gathering things from all parts of the house made a big difference. I’m trying to de clutter but can’t commit to the full thing right now. But this makes a lot of sense to me. I know I’ve started declutterig before and then end up with huge “miscellaneous” piles that all end up in whatever room I’m saving for last. So I think I’ll try categories this time!

Plus, I really like how it gives me extra room and I can see everything. Yes videos helped me figure it out. But I will add, since not everyone reads the book 😝 that she says following the folding method isn't something to get hung up on. If it works for your storage space and you like it, good! If it doesn't, just try and follow the ideas behind it, don't have everything stacked up in piles of more than maybe 2-3 items. I don't have a dresser, just a 2 drawer nightstand and a closet with 4 half shelves and 3 half height hanging bars. I hang things in categories. I lay my folded shirts in max stacks of 3, sometimes just 1 item. I have a storage basket for socks where I lay them. It works for my closet and now I don't have to have a dresser I don't want in my bedroom, which is way more the point of KM than having a drawer of self standing shirts.

I see we married the same man. HE HAS THREE WIVES?? H drives me up a wall with his piles. Like...just put it away! Nononono, if it is going to be used at any point in the future it *must* be kept out and in plain sight.

I’ve started moving DH’s piles to places that are inconvenient for him. His parents bring him lots of crap from their house when they visit and he had the habit of putting everything in the corner of our bedroom or in the hall closet that only I usually use (clothes I’m saving for my youngest, craft supplies etc is there). I put everything in the center of his closet. He sees how annoying it is to look at and deals with it. I do this too. If I tell him 20 times to move something and he doesn't, it gets put on his pillow.. My H would just put it on the floor

Ok so step one for me was to list a bunch of business casual clothes that I had been holding on to to sell. I was leaning toward sending them to one of those consignment sites but never got around to it. I already had taken pics so I just uploaded everything this morning. Hopefully some of it goes. Then maybe later today I can lock myself in our room and go through the rest of my clothes. I know it's not the best time now since I'm still breastfeeding but I know there's still a ton of pre-pregnancy crap that I have that I'll never wear again.

Her folding method really helped me with S2's pajamas bc he would rifle through his doors looking for a specific pair

I just finished going through my closet and dresser and I think I reduced by half. I need to do shoes and then deal with what is currently in the laundry

Oh man, I'm itching to do my clothes. I was hoping I could tackle them this evening but I forgot H has an overnight job and he's sleeping now 😕
Maybe tomorrow.
Papers will be super easy, we don't keep much anyway but it's true what she wrote about instruction manuals. I really should toss all of those.
Does she not keep things like tax returns or anything though? I mean, other that the instruction books, I think our file cabinet is pretty slim, but I still have tax return files, papers for work done on our home, insurance receipts, things like our marriage license and H's discharge papers, etc etc. Like...I need to keep that stuff. 🤷

I did actually go through my cookbooks quickly today; DS1 tripped over the dog bowl which was, of course, full, so water went everywhere including on my shelf of cookbooks. So I grabbed em out and made a pile to get rid of as I dried em off.
