I need a glossary. I've never had a BMB before. Sorry guys. It's a learning curve. Ask about all the acronyms, don't let it be weird. Join usssss I'm about to be really annoying.

Rama last time I had both, NIPT and NT. This time (new provider) said they strongly encourage the NIPT over the NT because it is better at giving results, that the false positive/ratio rate on NT is rather high. If that helps.

jewel - wow! That is rare! Rama - given your loss history and being high risk you qualify for NIPT. My OBs told me they don’t bother doing the NT if you do NIPT, because it doesn’t give any additional info, and it’s not as accurate as the NIPT anyway, so it’s a waste to do if you have done NIPT.

ArielMermaid - as much as I hate the place, The Dump has a good glossary. I do notice that CS or c/s is missing (c-section) and RCS (repeat c-section), I’m sure those will come up in later discussions!! www.thebump.com/community-glossary

See, my biggest question mark is that I specifically asked about the NTS when they told me to get the NIPT and the response I got wasn't that NIPT would be better, it was that my insurance/provider straight up doesn't do NTS anymore. Only NIPT. So I think with the accuracy of the NIPT getting better, more places might be phasing out that scan as well?

And even though I have PPO, you have to have a 'script aka referral from the OB to have the NT done there.. I bet your MFM does them (although it doesn't do you any good), but I think that most common OBs are phasing them out UNLESS they have MFM in house. Totally my observation, and opinion though on this - just based on what my friends have said/OB has said!

I can’t believe that some insurances would phase out NTs because the guidelines are only for high risk / AMA and some won’t even cover it at all! But there are so many different plans, who knows? This is from my OBs office:

I’m Canadian so most of these conversations go over my head. I had integrated prenatal screening (IPS) with DS, which is the NT with blood work that checks for a few other things too. Now they do early first trimester screening (eFTS) which is a scan and blood work, it’s more sensitive and encompasses more than the IPS. That’s the one that showed possible placenta insufficiency this time around.
I’m sure there’s additional tests for higher risk pregnancies but I don’t know anyone that’s had them. (Outside of CVS/amino)
eta: this was a pointless post, don’t mind me.

My practice this time and my practice last time for LO both offered NIPT with a more general 12 wk scan as an option as an alternative to the full NT and that blood work. They still do the measurements and check on the physical stuff but they let the NIPT handle any genetic assessments rather than the NT and the FTS

You choose which method you go with and people only choose NT if they can’t afford NIPT (out of pocket tesr here).

And you can still get a scan at 13 weeks, they just call it an “early anatomy scan” to check heart and other organ early development.

I'm considering it this time around. I don't really have risk factors, but insurance does cover it. My son had choroid plexus cysts at his anatomy scan, which was scary until I realized how super common they are. I think I'd rather know information in advance.

Now I've completely convinced myself that they don't release High Risk results on the portal, and that only your provider will tell you...
It's completely stupid that I even think this way - considering the projected date my results will be back is 10/10. A quick google search tells me that most people took a week from sample date BUT I'm just not one of those people.

With DS I had an NT scab but my provider doesn’t do them anymore. They only do blood tests now.

I had the Panorama test done. Blood drawn 9/19. Results available 9/26. My provider called me with the results before I checked the portal.

I just did the NT scan... I didn’t even think to ask for anything else. This is the weirdest FOMO ever.

Before doing the Panorama, I had a first trimester bloodwork for trisomy 21 & 18 through the state of California lab and the NT scan.
My OB didn't do the NT scan. It was with the "prenatal diagnostic clinic", supervised by the MCM group.
TL;Dr - I had both NT and associated lab work Plus the Panorama.

Please share with the class, so less of us panic when it comes to our A/S? I think they're coming up soon for some people, mine is in about 3 weeks and I'm midway in the group.

I'm not that familiar with it aside from somebody I know their son had one on the anatomy scan. I don't really remember any follow up from it and he's a perfectly healthy 3 year old. What exactly is it and do they have to treat or monitor anything with these?

Basically they were small cysts on his brain. Since ultrasound is becoming so much more accurate and they can see more, they're noticing them a lot more than they used to. They're totally benign on their own and don't hurt anything, but can be a soft marker for trisomy 18. After speaking with my OB and not seeing any other risk factors at all, we denied further testing and they disappeared before he was born and he's perfectly healthy.

They sent us for a level 2 ultrasound after that and it was still the only marker that she saw. That OB there made me feel a little pressured to do a blood test or amnio, but my OB really wasn't concerned and said if she was going to have an issue with her own child at the A/S, that's what she would pick. Given that, we declined further testing. They disappeared on their own at a later ultrasound (unrelated to the cysts, I had polyhydramnios). I think some OBs will recheck via US that they've disappeared, but not all.

I checked the portal last night (I check SEVERAL TIMES A DAY) and they moved my Expected results date from TODAY to FREAKING FRIDAY.
I'll be out of town. I can't deal with bad news when I'm not home.. and I'm traveling through next week.
UGH.
