Why is the W4 so complicated now? I made the mistake of trying IRS's withholding estimating app and I gave up because who has that kind of time? It is so stupid. And not user friendly.

My boomer boss is boomering like crazy today. She is now hung up on having internal team building for the whole company that is mandatory, over lunch, and must involve talking and sharing stories.
Our entire admin staff (including HR who is having to plan this) is sick that day.

I got halfway through and was like, am I just pre-preparing my tax return? yes, yes you are turbotax and other tax software used to suggest you update your w4 every year right after you finish your taxes and then they'd have a walk thru filling in blanks for you. I don't think they do that any more.

DD's 13 birthday is coming up and early this morning when she couldn't fall back to sleep she asked to cancel her birthday party because she feels like she is too old for one. Her original idea was at the roller rink---and she was literally inviting her closest friends (so maybe 10 kids including niece/nephew) at the most. I feel like I still see people having parties for 13---usually with just closest friends, but maybe I am wrong. I told her we will think about it and talk about it when it isn't 4am. Can you ask her what she thinks her birthday party is going to look like? Maybe she’s envisioning something very different/geared towards a younger child, maybe she doesn’t want to be sung happy birthday or have to open gifts in front of people, etc. Based on what she says you can work together to craft a ‘party’ that she is comfortable with. Fwiw around 13 is when our kids’ birthday parties started taking on more of a ‘hanging with friends and doing an activity’ focus rather than the birthday pomp and circumstance, which is also my preference. Oh a week ago, she had me book it at the roller rink. It literally would be about 10 kids total---and three of them are cousins. So not that many. But apparently it was the 4am anxiety talking---by 6:30am she wanted a party again....I can't win!

DH f'd up his W4 when he started his new job which resulted in not only owing $$$ when we filed, but also getting hit with a penalty for not having enough withheld throughout the year. Double whammy.

I like my work team overall, but it's really something how one person being out of the office today brightened everyone else's day.
She's a narrator - gives a running commentary on what she's doing, her thoughts, etc. the whole damn day. She's the reason I wear noise cancelling headphones and question why in office days are supposedly more productive than wfh.

One of my friends complained the other day that her kids weren't doing anything at school for the last week (just watching movies). I told her that my kids had 3 straight weeks of watching movies and playing computer games. I'm curious what other schools do. One week of no school work sounds fine; three weeks seems excessive to me.

DD is in 7th grade-school gets out in a month, state testing is next week and she is spending hours on homework/make up work from school. I make her stop at 8pm (even if it isn't finished!)---because she literally is working from about 3 until then with a break for dinner. I would LOVE days where there it was relaxed. I am hoping with testing next week there is zero homework and she could breathe a little and get caught up with her make up work.

I'm not complaining to the school or anything, to be clear; it just seems sort of pointless.

I know they will do some fun stuff, but they’re definitely still working right now. My middle schooler has finals next week and into the last week of school.

Things are winding down here but they are still finishing up end of year projects and then have finals for high school level courses next week. All actual learning is basically done though. The last week of school is basically nothing. Grades are due well before the last day of school so it’s parties/award ceremonies/yearbook signing/free time.

If they really do, then yeah that would be a problem for me.

My kid (7) had a 3 day week this week and then a week and a half left. They did testing last week, this week and have an exam the final Monday. She would love to watch movies but I’m in the camp of if you are just having them come to school to check a day on the calendar for the state it is stupid.
I’m ok with a mixture. Like games for recapping the year or some movies but all day for 3 weeks I wouldn’t like

They've already sent home workbooks and school supplies. Maybe the games are educational?

They changed the calendar this year, so that we get out a week later than we used to, but they stop doing work after state testing, so it just means one more week of wasting time.

OMG I found three undeveloped rolls of film. I have no idea what I shot, but there's a film developing place nearby that I think I'll drop them off at tomorrow.

I finally glazed my first pots today. The kids have been asking when I’ll bring something home since the first week. 😅

The neighbors’ four kids were playing outside and you could barely hear them and as soon as one of my kids joins them it sounds like madness. They’re clearly having fun but I also feel kind of bad.

Aww my husband took my 6YO out to see the northern lights and they’re really seeing it! He was so excited and hopeful and I’m so glad they really got to see it.

Yes! I took DS out and it was amazing!!! (Ignoring that it was less cloudy at our house than where we were 40 minutes away 🫠)

My brother about 2 hours north had a decent view, I should have driven there!

I'm also feeling disappointed that after a week of rain today is nice and of course H has to work. Tomorrow, more rain. I intended to do a family hike tomorrow so I have to figure out something new.
I was also away all week at a suuuuuppper draining (but excellent!) training for work so I need some time to regroup today.
