Not going to let myself get too excited but I'm feeling hopeful that we will make good things happen this fall.

I hope everyone has a good eclipse viewing if they can! I really wish I had the time to drive and see totality, but alas, I will have to be okay with 96%

I wish we were in the path of totality here bc it is a gorgeous clear day.
I am watching on D+ and the excited cheers at totality keep making me cry.

How many people do you think call 911 during eclipses if they don't know what's happening

We are in the path of totality and are at a local watch party hosted by our suburb. It's really cool. I remember a partial eclipse when I was in elementary school but this is a lot more fun. I'm really happy the weather worked out.

The light here is so eerie right now abd we are still 16 minutes from our max coverage (87%)

How many people do you think call 911 during eclipses if they don't know what's happening A surprisingly high number. At least in my city. When I was in AZ, we'd also get calls to the non emergency fire department number because the caller was convinced the utility didn't correctly hook up the cold water. Sorry, no. The ground is just THAT warm in August.

Our coverage was about 93% but right at the peak a huge band of dark clouds loved through. We did get a good look right up until then, but of course it moving away was completely covered unfortunately. Oh well.

We were at about 70% coverage which was interesting to see; we were in the path of totality in 2017 but clouds moved in and then we had a pretty decent thunderstorm right at totality.
I was bummed we didn’t get to see anything It was super freaky to be in the pitch black with lightning and thunder crashing all around. Today was anticlimactic compared to that.

I live like 3 miles from the center line. It was so damn cloudy we never saw a peep of the sun. But, it got SO dark and the temperature dropped 10F in the 4 minutes of darkness. It was pretty cool still. I do feel bummed we missed the sun, but the change in light and temperature was wild.

I didn’t even notice it here but it was cloudy and we were only supposed to be 26% anyway. Last time we were about an hour north of totality and I had just started a new job and couldn’t drive down but we were something like 93% and the light was just so eerie. It was really neat.

I wish we were in the path of totality here bc it is a gorgeous clear day. I am watching on D+ and the excited cheers at totality keep making me cry. I cried during the last one at totality. I don't even really know why. I did not cry today, but it was still such a cool thing. I spent hours in the car getting home, but it was worth it to see a total eclipse. ETA: I drove to see the last one at totality, too. Again, worth it.

The school I work at did a big watch party for all the kids. We had speakers blasting and everyone got popsicles and glasses. It was really awesome. I am near dc2london, so in the 80s for coverage here, too. It definitely got colder! It was pretty cool. A friend of mine traveled to a total coverage area and got amazing photographs with his telescope. He does a lot of space and landscape photography and it's just so good. His name is Brennan Gilmore (he publishes some of them, so saying his name isn't a big deal on here) if you want to look them up on IG.

We were in totality and schools were closed in anticipation of travelers in the area. I don't think we got quite the crowds they expected, but it was so fun to enjoy with the kids. It was supposed to be cloudy but we got very lucky with clear skies. We saw Mercury and Venus and heard lots of interesting bird/insect sounds. Attachments:

mrsweasley we were also in the path. Locals made a huge deal about traffic, we're very close to the lake so cities were planning for campers at baseball fields and watch parties at stadiums. But I think it wasn't as busy as they anticipated. Hooray for proper planning! But the crowds at the beach weren't any more than what we see for 4th of July. My city also grossly overestimated the traffic and tourist for this. That said, the two cities we're wedged between that both also had complete totality had backed up traffic for hours and miles after the eclipse, so I think it was all just a big crapshoot on traffic into certain areas.

Traffic headed south of you headed to PA was backed up for hours and not just on 81.

Our school district did a program (the kids ended up playing on the playground for a lot of it). We were supposed to be 99% totality. All around us had issues with cloud cover and there were spurts of clouds covering the sun but we definitely got some good viewing too. The only time the clouds made it difficult was of course when it approached the totality. But it was eerie how dark it got and cooled way off.
