My city also grossly overestimated the traffic and tourist for this. That said, the two cities we're wedged between that both also had complete totality had backed up traffic for hours and miles after the eclipse, so I think it was all just a big crapshoot on traffic into certain areas. Traffic headed south of you headed to PA was backed up for hours and not just on 81. I heard it was a nightmare. I know traffic out of Buffalo was a wreck too. Rochester had lighter than normal traffic 😂

One small bright spot, AZ's AG has already said she won't prosecute anyone under this law.

I haven't yet recovered from cicada-geddon in 2020. WTF is THIS?!
"Some of the cicadas, however, may have come in contact with a fungal pathogen called Massospora cicadina, which makes them hyper-sexual. The sexually transmitted fungal infection turns them into so-called "zombie cicadas," with a chalky, white plug erupting out of their bodies and making their genitals fall off. Cicada expert Matthew Kasson says it's not yet clear how the fungus impacts other wildlife, animals or humans."

Oh yeah, I remember the zombie cicadas from last time. Not that I saw any, only that the articles/discussions about them made a, shall we say, lasting impression. The pictures are truly the stuff of nightmares.

The only potential bright side I can see of this Arizona bullshit is that it's just going to get more young voters in on election day. Abortion is a losing issue for GOP, we've seen it over and over again. If places like Kansas and Ohio smacked it down, it's simply not going to go well anywhere.

The "underlying issues worry Feds". Oh you mean the continual price gouging that companies across almost all sectors are engaging in? Those underlying issues?

I keep seeing articles that Ohio is likely to lose a Senate Dem, but people just showed up in FORCE for abortion rights, that's basically all he had to run on.

In theory there will be a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights into the state Constitution. I haven't looked at the wording of the ballot measure. Sure hope the young voters show up and don't just vote the way their parents do.

I'm very worried about Sherrod Brown and Jon Tester. Less so about AZ Sen, but it is noteworthy, IMO, that the Republicans running in AZ and OH are parroting the 45 "let the states decide." That's infuriating bc we all know thry will vote for/sign a national ban, but most voters don't necessarily know that.
I also heard on a pollster podcadlst that there are swing voters who think Biden overturned Roe bc that's who was POTUS and I just-----

I'm sad over the likely/potential loss of Sherrod Brown, not least because of what it means for the Senate. Even if Biden wins again, the absolute blockage the GQP would put on any judicial appointments is frightening and infuriating. Then add in that Brown seems like a decent guy and the guy running against him is backed by TFG which means he is decidedly not.
I hadn't realized Jon Tester was also up this year.

There’s a new documentary on Netflix called Anti Social Network that is about the history of 4chan up through Jan 6. It’s really eerie to see j6 from this angle but it is a pretty interesting doc.

I'll be so sad if Sherrod isn't reelected. Both him and his wife Connie seem like such lovely people. We are really trying here, and riding the wave after issue 1 and 2(that are still stalled in OH house) from last November. Brown was just in CLE for the eclipse. Connie will be here in June. We're also working on and anti-gerrymandering campaign. Holding onto the hope that all this work helps. I am really trying to hold out hope too. We really don't need 2 Magat Senators I just turned in my first petition booklet and I need to be a little more aggressive about collecting more, but my time is also very limited. I'm working on our school district's levy committee because there's going to be a bond issue for a new HS on the Nov ballot and (I don't think I've shared this) we've had issues with the new elementary principal at DD's school this year. DD is in 5th grade, but we'll start all over with DS2 in K next year 😣 My plate is very full but it's all so important!

mrsweasley we were also in the path. Locals made a huge deal about traffic, we're very close to the lake so cities were planning for campers at baseball fields and watch parties at stadiums. But I think it wasn't as busy as they anticipated. Hooray for proper planning! But the crowds at the beach weren't any more than what we see for 4th of July. Traffic here was so bad right after for about 2 hours

az Supreme Court judges who ruled the 1800 abortion law was still in effect, 2 of them are on the ballot in Nov. Maybe we can vote them out and get someone better.
