I'm depressed now though because all my kid needs me for these days is my password to (xyz). Mine needs me for money and rides. Mostly rides. That’s about it. Don’t blink indeed.

They don’t teach driver’s education at school anymore? I’m focusing on learning to swim and ride a bike for my two younger kids. My 12 year old runs around in untied shoes but insists that they know how to tie them. Just chooses not to. We had to pay for driver's ed, it wasn't just included in school. For that reason, my husband never went and wasn't able to get a license until he was 18. (strict state) I want my 7.5 yr old to ride a bike so badly but he could not be interested less. He doesn't even want to try when I've begged to buy him any bike he wants. How do you teach in that situation? lol

Missouri is a lawless land, unless you have a uterus.

The Safety council does it for the bigger cities. Pretty sure the ones doing it in small towns are through them too.

Driver's Ed is not taught at school in my part of TX. You can do it yourself if you certify a certain # of hours, etc. But I absolutely sent my teenagers to private driving school. For $350ish- they get their 32 hours of classroom/prep for the written test and 6 or 8 on the road driving lessons. My middle DD had not driven AT ALL before driving school so they did MOST of my heavy lifting for me. (DD1 was very interested in driving and had done lots of parking lot practice pre-permit) I thought that was a great price to save my sanity some; you still have to get XX number of hours with a parent before you can get your license.

My confession is that I really want my DD1's track meet to get rained out for tomorrow. I really, really need one chill day. I also hate track meets.

There were three of us girls in my driver’s ed car (a Ford Taurus!) circa 1998, I was still 15 that summer. The teacher was a high school (math or social studies?) teacher* who taught driver’s ed as a summer job. He was in his 20s at the time. At the end of the summer he had promised to take us out to an old-timey ice cream shop (that we’d have to drive to, about 5 miles from our town) as a reward.
I vaguely remember having a conflict (band camp) and the teacher had to reschedule mine last lesson. So it ended up being just the two of us on an awkward ice cream date sitting at a picnic table. He behaved with complete decorum and I was too innocent to think anything about it except that it was awkward, but in retrospect, the optics of that probably weren’t great.

Just chooses not to. ahahaha No. But here state still requires you to pass Driver's Ed if you want a license before 18, so 15.5-18 YO have to take the class. And since it's not offered through school, parents/kid have to pay OOP to some company for drivers class and so many hours of in car driving lessons, which is just a fraction of the hours needed before they can test for a license. And it’s $$$$$

We met with my 6YO's teacher and I don't know if I effectively stopped myself from rolling my eyes when she said he is so flexible. He is decidedly so not flexible at home. I mentioned DD2 (8yo) being super stubborn during her conference and her teacher said, "oh, she's not stubborn at all. I don't see that side of her at school." Cool. Cool. Glad she saves it all up for us.

My sister and I have linked our Amazon accounts so we can share kindle and Audible books. I am slightly embarrassed by some of the short, extra smutty books I will download from Kindle Unlimited when I am between library books. I delete them as soon as I finish so she doesn't see the covers of whatever fantasy, fairytale, biker, "why choose" book I've picked up that week.

I don't like drag shows. Confession brought to you by two different friends' IG stories this week. I'm not anti, God bless, rock out (but not with your cock out), live your most authentic and fabulous life. It just isn't my thing. I also tried to watch Drag Race and got bored.

Sometimes I decline to drive carpool because I like the one on one time with my teen. This is the way. Car time is the best teen time. Dropped off and picked up my kids off for school every day thru high school til senior year youngest paid for his own car. Good talking times. Amazing thing is youngest son still calls me when he is driving so we can catch up. I hear all his news but also heard a few McDonald's and starbucks orders in the years he's been in college. Lol.

I just read an article this morning about how millennial parents are raising generation alpha to be "feral", so this fits. (My almost 10 year old can't tie his shoes or ride a bike.) What are Gen X parents doing because I'm right on the cusp. Me, too (1980) and I identify more with millennial culture but I think some say we're a "micro-generation" between X and Y. I like the Oregon Trail generation. I think all articles about "kids these days" are written for boomers to confirm their belief that everyone who came after them fucked it up.

I was a bit older when I had kids so I guess I started my parenting journey solidly with the millennials. I have immigrant parents so not exactly boomers but I'm trying to undo all the things they fucked up with me.

I have 3 and one is on behalf of my MIL. 1. She has paid for a Zoom psychic medium session with the Seatbelt Psychic, Thomas John. The session is tomorrow morning and she is 100% convinced that my H is going to come through and say hello. I'm going into it totally open minded but we'll see what happens. She is very excited and I don't want her to be disappointed. 2. I have yet to start my taxes for the year because my H always did them and I'm afraid of what we are going to owe so I'm just kind of pretending they don't exist. I know that this is a terrible plan. 3. It's been 2 months since my H's memorial service and I still haven't sent thank you notes and I know that makes me an asshole, but I'm still really struggling mental health wise and getting the right mix of meds on board and so I'm just literally too depressed to do it. Right now I'm basically holding on by my fingernails trying to just maintain and get to work and get the kid to school and to therapy and it's just all I can manage. I feel so freaking guilty about not doing them and that is also not helping my situation.

Oh my goodness ponyhairs, I want to say confidently that no one thinks you're an asshole for not sending thank-you notes. Even if you NEVER send them, no one will think you're an asshole. Let that go. Please please continue to focus on yourself and your kid and do what you need to do to get by. Surely even Miss Manners would agree.

There are specific driving schools here, but I don't think it's taught at the public school. It wasn't even back when I was in school.

Sometimes on work from home days I don't have time to shower before running the kids to school, and then I sit down at my computer as soon as I get home and end up not showering until after I work out in the evening. I'm never a morning showerer. I've WFH for 6+ years and sometimes I'll squeeze in a midday run or workout between calls and not shower until I get another break. 🤷♀️ I own it, it's gross and doesn't happen too often but who cares lol. I get it in when I can!
