I'm really angry about how quickly SCOTUS came to a decision when it helps Trump and how they're slow walking another...when that also helps Trump.

We are in a bit of a battle budget in the city (along with surrounding areas) about funding schools appropriately/teacher salaries, etc. I sent an email to city council and immediately got an email back from the mayor that said well we either cut services or increase taxes, and so I responded back we support a tax increase (which would amount to less than $300 for the year for us, on the higher end of things) and he responded back well, I don't think that will work. I'm like... K? You just said that was an option?
(the bit of the buried lede there is city council/city gov is hedging that the new stadium will increase our commercial tax base and solve all of our woes- they are pushing that narrative hard, when we don't even know if it will happen, and wouldn't start benefitting us that quickly anyway. It's messy)

One silver lining in today's decision, in case anyone else missed it:

I have to push back on a narrative I keep seeing crop up (not here) as House GOP flail to justify their impeachment efforts. There's this idea that the entire Democratic establishment crusaded against TFG and impeached him based on unverified intelligence (the unnamed metal doss.ier). Listen. It is true that there was some very salacious stuff in there, and that it was fun to run with and joke around about on Twitter. Some people fully believed it. Some people found it plausible. Sone people dismissed it. It was a good study in confirmation bias, for sure. But neither of 45's impeachments was based on Russian disinformation. Full stop. I need people to stop saying, "Well how is James Comer any different from James Clyburn?!!" It just isn't the same. I get that a lot of people, myself included, hoped that the metal folder would help spare us from 45. But the situations are not equivalent.

Did you see the gov is trying to get the VA beach area on board by reducing the tolls on the highways there?

I just realized that can read snarky like you guys talk about him too much. You really truly don't. He makes national news for the shit he pulls. He's done a lot of damage and it feels like it should have taken him more time than it has.

In yucky news in az The laws requiring proof of citizenship to vote are deemed by a judge as not discriminatory and the state as a valid interest in making sure only citizens vote. But they can't require city and state of birth on voter applications or any proof of citizenship at the polls.
In good news az is partnering with RIP Medical debt to buy and forgive up to $30 million in az resident medical debt. They say they want to target those at or just above poverty level or those eith debt over 5% of their income, but there is no application since rip medical debt buys debt in bulk and pays it off in bulk with not really individual identifying info. So who knows how that will actually work.

This is the first US election that I could take part in and haven't. It really feels less like an exercise of our democracy when we don't have more options than what is available currently.

It's Super Tuesday!
Schools in our area are doing an asynchronous day since so many schools are polling sites. MH took the day off too to help out with kiddo, since he had leftover days from last year to burn. So we're gonna do some homeschooling, then go vote this afternoon. Still debating whether to vote in the dem primary to show support for Biden, or vote for Haley in the repub primary to fuck with Trump.
What are my other VA posters doing today?

I voted by mail already (my favorite thing, automatic mail ballots for all elections!). No complaints that I got to spend this rainy morning being lazy in bed

It’s primary day in CA. I’m mostly looking forward to a short reprieve of the Senate ads. I hope Katie Porter and her kids never watch TV because damn the attacks ads against her were harsh.

Who are you planning to vote for, if it's ok to ask? I know it's a hot race, but haven't kept up with who is favored, aside from Not Katie.
