Do you guys have like, a home command center? I have a space in my living room on the wall that has stuff for the kids: list of chores, after school activity schedule etc but it looks unsightly with various pieces of paper. After years of trying to create one, we ended up inheriting this one when we moved. I totally recognize that build in isn't a quick or cheap solution, but maybe there is something similar out there. I keep school papers, DD's fun lunch schedule, stamps, passports, pens, whatever paper I shouldn't lose but doesn't need to be filed, in there. And then the mess hides behind the door! Hopefully this picture works, I haven't posted a pic in ages and sort of forgot! ETA: the back is magnetic and there is a power strip at the bottom for charging things, so my kid's watch stays there.

I should probably add that space to my list of things to organize!

classicicedteaWe used to have just a bulletin board in the walk area between kitchen and breakfast nook. Calendar and chores list and push pin any notices and permission slips. Of course all the junk in backpack would get dumped on kitchen counter at least once a week to see what came home to be dealt with. It was closest to a command center we had with the kids in elementary. High school everything became electronic and kids managed themselves mostly with important dates on calendar on the wall where the land line used to be. Keys hang there and always one charge cords so it's a much smaller command center.

Passports are definitely a to be filed item and not a command center item.

I don't like things hanging around and besides no one was looking at it as I had envisioned in my mind.

Ok so I have been trying to do something every day. Even if it's a small drawer or whatever.
So last week during the freeze and being stuck at home, I organized my desk/WFH area. I am in my bedroom. I was downstairs at one point in time but I am up here. I know some people are so against work in their bedroom but it's not an issue for me/us. Anyway, I have a small desk/hutch from college days. It has go to go. I am looking out in the marketplace for something else. In the meantime I got some cube shelves from Target and just those shelves really freed up floor space and opened the space up more. I am not done organizing each cube but I am making my way there.
Also, today I cleaned and reorganized my upstairs hall/linen closet. There are a couple of shelves that I didn't get to because I didn't feel like climbing up on the ladder but the bulk of it is done. I am donating my collection of children's costumes. I have a bag for donations and a bag of trash. I did a major purge in there.
I still need to go through the sheet area and purge some bed skirts and stuff like that.

Anyone have anything to shared that they did?
Despite me doing a whole kitchen clean, we ended up out of town due to the death in the family and came back and I need to clean the fridge again. Maybe not a deep clean but some produce went bad.

I got a bunch of little things done this month. My kitchen is completely torn out so we’ve had chaos but I’ve been determined to keep that an isolated issue.
I accomplished: -Organizing hand me downs for DS2 so now I’ve got labeled totes for 3T/4T by seasons -Listed 3 totes of clothing/toys for consignment (sold 1.5 worth so far!) -got rid of excess kitchen stuff I didn’t ever use (pots/pans/random utensils/etc) in the kitchen pack up process -reorganized DS2’s Christmas toys so everything has a home
I was definitely slowed down by this kitchen debacle but still made good progress. I still need to tackle the linen closet so that’s my big goal for February.

Our guest bathroom is going to be totally gutted in the next week or so, so I am going to get in there and clean out all of the cabinets and get rid of all of the old junk that has accumulated. I'm also going to get rid of all of the old towels in there and replace them.

Maybe not a deep clean but some produce went bad. I have done the hit or miss stuff here and there but nothing amazing to report. Switched to doing some outside stuff before all the fruit trees blossom, so apple tree and apricot tree and grapes have been pruned. But that ended up with my lower back hurting too much to do the rest of my indoor stuff. Maybe February, luckily that is only a couple days away eh?

I brought home two new dishes from the thrift store over the weekend which led to me cleaning out three kitchen cabinets. We ditched a few small things and better organized. There are still more cabinets that need attention but it was a start.

I've done a bunch of little things. I went through both kids rooms while and organized their bookshelves and game shelves. Also sorted out all of the toys while they were gone and got rid of anything broken. Sometime when they are home for a while I'm going to have them go through to purge the things they don't want. I went through DH and my drawers and got rid of things we never wear. Sorted through all our medications and got rid of expired and things we don't use anymore. I organized all of our bathroom drawers. Organized a few of our kitchen cabinets.
Even with getting rid of a lot DH and I still have more clothes than we have room for so I need to figure something out.we have such a small house with no basement and little storage space and it makes things hard.

I've started packing up the rest of the kitchen and pantry stuff. We'll have some more cupboard space but less cabinet space so trying to be mindful of what we keep so that we can make sure everything has a place in the new kitchen. I need to tackle the kids' closet, which has been collecting stuff for the past 6 years. And my desk area, which is a big fucking mess.

I've washed all DS1's bedding and cleaned as thoroughly as I could without disturbing his Lego displays. I need to go through his dresser and the bins that were under his bed of clothes for DS2
I wanted to get to all the kid's rooms this month, but I should take 1 as a win. Next will be DD's room. There was no rush with DS1 because he's gone, DD and DS2 I really need a full day each and we had a busy month

I threw away a broken water table and got rid of some clothes DS2 had outgrown and a car seat carry bag. There is still so much toy clutter. Mostly moving toysto the attic which is kicking the can down the road but at least out of the living area

MIL is here for her visit and has launched herself into organizing the china cabinet. I’m happy if she’s happy. Digital organization is one of my goals this month. My MacBook is about… 5 OS out of date. And hasn’t been backed up in literal years. While I store a lot on the cloud, I really need to get a handle on it, so that’s what I’ve been working on this morning.

It's February, but I'm still here. I did my laptop update and backup, and marked my calendar for future ones to try and be more consistent. Also started purging some old files that I'll never need.
I made SO much progress through being really aggressive the past couple weeks of purging the kids' outgrown stuff. I have quite a collection that I'm sorting through in my guest room. (A few items to keep for niece and nephew, most to let a couple friends with smaller kids look through before it will be donated.) I need to do the same for myself! MIL sent me a referral to ThredUp and said she has really liked using that, so I might give it a try.
A lot of the outgrown kids' clothes had been hanging out in my laundry room, so once I got them out of there, I started deep-cleaning that room. We actually have a great laundry room (really big and tons of cabinets/counter), and I know it's under-utilized because it becomes such a catch-all.
We have a woman clean our house every couple weeks (toilets, floors, dusting, etc.) and she is out all this month with an injury. The challenge for me this month will be keeping up this momentum of purging and organizing while keeping up with regular chores.

Oh, I also sorted (and purged) a TON of paper files in my home office last month, which felt amazing.

My goal for cleaning/organizing in general this year is to be more decisive, not to deliberate on doing things, or the best ways, for weeks/months/years on end. So I was really proud of myself the other day for deciding to make memory boxes for the kids' school things and, that very afternoon, including the file folders and boxes in the Target pickup order that I was already making for Valentines and whatnot. Like these, but not quite as Pinteresty because I'm not. Spoiler giant photo: The Target lady loaded them into my trunk that afternoon, and due to running around doing various things, I didn't unload them until the next morning. When I realized one of the plastic file boxes had a huge crack in the bottom and the top half of the corner was almost cracked completely off. How did she not notice?! At least I got a fast refund through the app, but it was a womp-womp moment in my organizing frenzy, lol. (Target is 20 miles away, so not someplace I go to on a whim.) /vent
