We are going to have a bunch of people in town for my H's memorial, so I need to buckle down and do a bunch of little projects I have been putting off. I am going to rent one of those Bagster things from Home Depot over the weekend and clean out a bunch of stuff in the garage that my H was hanging on to that I now feel comfortable getting rid of. I need to re-organize my dining room built-ins and I have all of the stuff I just need to actually do it. Might invite a friend over this weekend and have an organizing party. Me? Am I the friend? Good luck! Hop on a plane and I'll pick you up at the airport!

It's OK to not push yourself too hard to get everything organized right this minute. Of course when life gives you shit it's nice to have something you can totally control to balance the shit a teeny bit ❤️❤️

I have a small tote of Christmas cards going back years. I’m going to get some binder rings and do this with them (by year). I know keeping them isn’t for everyone, but my love of Christmas cards is well known. I have some with beautiful handwritten messages that are special to me. I am looking forward to being able to flip through them occasionally, in an organized way. My friend does this every year, and I’ve always thought it was so cute, but have never gotten around to it. I’ve also seen it done with two rings, more like a “book,” but I’ll be doing the least, lol.

So I Have the last one from my Granny and from dhs mom before she died. The other ones I often keep the fronts and we make crafts out of them or gift tags.

Yes, our school art teacher collects the fronts, so if they are less significant to me, that’s what I do with those. My grandma had a bowl like this. For some reason, I was obsessed with it when I was a kid. People are so creative.

Last year I wanted to go through the whole house thoroughly but didn't get very far so I'm going to try again this year. I want to make a good plan ( dc2london would you be willing to share some of your bingo plans/ideas/sources?) So far I plan to work on some of the basics like full bedding washing, flipping mattresses, etc My biggest challenge is probably the desire to do certain things that it's not quite the right time for yet. DS1 is a college sophomore, but it's his first year away from home. I'd like to do a huge purge of his stuff, but I also don't want him to feel like we're shoving him out. DD is 11 and on the verge of being done with a lot of her "toys" I think, but same deal. No rush to grow up, I just feel like the kids have way too much "stuff" and we're a little overwhelmed by it In positives, we just got a kitten so that has forced us to take care of a few things that were on the back burner. I got Xmas down before we brought her home on the 2nd. We hadn't gotten the ornaments out in a few years because of the youngest so I reorganized some of that stuff and made some positive improvements to our storage organization

I told the girls that if they went through their closest and picked out stuffed animals they were done with, that I'd give them a $1 for each one. Boy did that motivate them to find all of their teeniest animals, which didn't really help the space dilemma! Ha! I had to amend little ones being a 2 or 3 for $1. They both still made out with $20 (eek, learned my lesson!). Also a teachable moment for all of us with them picking ones "they had to have" even like 2 months ago that were quickly identified to toss, and being more cognizant of how we are spending money.
Can I donate those, or do I need to throw them away?

As long as they're in good condition someone should take them

All but a couple are. I'm also a big supporter of textile recycling. Usually places will take worn out clothes, stuffed animals, shoes, etc, and sell them to be repurchased for couch stuffing amd whatnot

I got a big ol’ stubborn stain out of our ottoman pouf today. It’s been intimidating me for ages, and then of course it ended up being an easy 10-minute job. 👏
Big post-holiday fridge clean out is done!
I have been really happy with how organized I have been putting away Christmas decorations. Almost done now. I also decided to rearrange some furniture and freshen some stuff up in my house. I was able to create some new little areas with things we already had. I am really liking the refresh so far!
On my list is gathering up, sorting, redistributing allllll the charging cables in our house, because OMG the charger situation here. Also, DD can’t find her school-assigned Chromebook charging cable, so that’s special. Hoping it’s around somewhere! The kids are driving me crazy with not being able to find the chargers they want when they need them.

Ok so I got some things done that were not planned but I guess needed according to the bags of trash I had.
So since I was getting ready for storm prep, I cleaned out the freezer, fridge, and pantry. Despite the fact that I feel I do this regularly, I had some expired like way expired things and I lost some meat to freezer burn.
Now all of that is clean and organized. I do need to climb to the top of the pantry because that part was not done.
It feels good though and I love it when I open something and see it. So much more room.

Our pantry could really use a deep clean. It’s near the top of my DNW list, but it’s time.

I just filled two bags with clothing and shoe donations for a local family that lost everything in a house fire. Three generations. Their sizes are close to ours, so I am glad we could help. So awful to imagine starting over with nothing.

I hit post before I was finished with that thought. I had some clothes in a tote in my basement that must have been there for quite a while, because I did not even remember owning some of them. Nothing I would ever wear again. Maybe some of it I was hoping to sell, but it is not worth the effort. It was a really good reminder to me to be more mindful when I am buying stuff and also to just donate things when I am done with them instead of storing them. 🤦♀️

We’re still deep in kitchen renovation mode but I did tackle some other projects.
We put together a tote of DS2’s stuff for consignment and I listed that at the same time. Drop off isn’t until April so I’ll keep adding as I go.
We purged a bunch of old linens too. Our linen closet is in much better shape now and I organized my seasonal kitchen towels.

I went through my living room built-ins this weekend and got rid of a ton of stuff that was just taking up space. My H's late grandmother gave me a bunch of random platters and we never use them because we don't entertain that often and they just aren't my style, so I donated them to a local women's shelter that has a retail storefront. I figure his grandmother would rather they get used and not just sit in my cabinets. To echo Bookshelves, I have been trying to be more mindful of the clothes that I'm buying and getting higher quality items that will last longer rather than just buying stuff because it's a "good deal" and then never actually wearing it. Going through my closet and getting rid of all of the stuff I was holding onto for when I lost the weight and could wear them again was huge for my mental health. Going into my closet now is so much less stressful because I know that everything in there fits me and are items I will actually wear.

After getting Christmas down and 99% back in storage I hit a wall that I can’t get passed. As much as I prefer a pre planned organization master list I think I am just going to have to hop from hot spot to hot spot until whatever this malaise is leaves.
This past weekend I was able to organize our medicine cabinet and under my bathroom sink/counter and I have an earring holder coming tomorrow which should prompt a dresser clean out. After that I may focus on a closet clean up.

I have really got to get the motivation to tackle some clothes. I swear I am way too attached to my sweatshirts and sweaters, and I have too many. I think they’re my emotional support clothing item.

I keep thinking that I will actually wear the nice sweaters and sweatshirts in the closet. Not because of fit, but because of the temperature. Used to be we'd get a month or so of sweater weather. And I love a comfy jean, sweater and boots kind of day. Last year I wore none of my sweaters for longer than putting them on and then soon taking them back off cause I was too hot. This year I've made it to wearing 2 actual sweaters, but none of the sweatshirts. So I need to purge at least half of everything. Of course we will get some weird freezing temps as soon as I drop them off at any goodwill type place.

Of course that means my nightstand and the bathroom counter stay pretty clean and uncluttered cause I do them often instead of doing something harder oops

We are on day 3 this week of home from school because of weather. Two days last week.
I suddenly remembered last night that my MIL will be here for a long visit in less than 2 weeks, which lit a bit of a fire under me to tackle some stuff. Pantry deep clean happening currently. Send help 🤪

The record breaking cold is killing my motivation. The temps are supposed to be normal next week--still too cold for my liking, but I should be able to jump start my motivation.

Somehow dh broke off part of what holds a shelf in the door of our freezer. So decided to rearrange the door shelves so I cleaned the shelves reorg. And while in there took inventory and sorted the inside of the freezer.
Went to junk drawer to grab super glue and clear duct tape which lead to cleaning out the drawer. Never found the clear duct tape
Fixed the shelf without duct tspe but it stays on the door and added a few lightweight items
While looking for the clear duct tape I cleaned off kitchen counter and in sons room finishes removing bedding and folded up the couch. Which lead to a load of laundry and cleaning top of dryer that collects stuff that belongs in the garage.
Which meant I went to garage to put stuff away and cleaned out the garage fridge and freezer (not too dirty) which meant I brought stuff in the house to go in the freezer I started at.
If you give a mouse a cookie kind of day.

Do you guys have like, a home command center? I have a space in my living room on the wall that has stuff for the kids: list of chores, after school activity schedule etc but it looks unsightly with various pieces of paper.
