In Costa Rica you can get a little bit of everything, adventure, exploring, relaxing at the pool/beach and it won't drain the vacation fund! We were looking at that for the summer as well, but it's not going to happen now. Anyhow, rainy season starts in May...so the earlier you can get there in summer likely the better. I hear August is miserable. ok well that probably cancels out Costa Rica since we can’t go until late July at the earliest Japan! Japan! Japan!

We’re going somewhere for 2 weeks this summer because it’s been too long since our last proper vacation. But right now it’s between going to Florida to relax by a pool plus a couple of days at Universal Studios. Or go to Japan, which is a bucket list destination for all of us but it won’t be relaxing and will probably drain the entire vacation fund. Or the wildcard idea is an all inclusive in Costa Rica We are doing a bucket list trip to Alaska that is draining most of ours. I originally pictured bucket list trips for later in life but who knows what can happen. What if I get rheumatoid arthritis like my mom and can't do this stuff anymore? Or something else happens where we can't travel? So we decided what are we waiting for and are just going for it. So that's my vote!

Bumping this thread because I just booked plane tickets for Iceland Summer 2024!
We loved Iceland in summer 2022 as a family, so we decided to go back. We'll be seeing all new areas of the country and staying for a bit longer than a week. I've been planning it all on my own (vs using a travel agent like last time), so that's a bit stressful, but I think it's going to be great.

We are debating between London and Paris for spring break this year. Kids are 10 and 11. My son really wants to see Paris, but I think London may be easier. Seems like hotels in Paris don't often have double beds and we don't want to have to get 2 rooms. We need to decide soon for an April trip though.

We’re renting a car so self driving the golden circle (ring road looks amazing though), checking out Reynisfjara, grabbing food at Black Crust Pizzeria, hopefully visiting Vatnajokull if we can fit it in, catching a lava show and visiting Sky Lagoon.

I'd be happy to tell you everything! We did self-drive in 2022 and are doing it again in 2024. In 2022, we did Reykjavik and the South Coast (we skipped the Golden Circle but loved the waterfalls, beach, a lava cave tour was my kid's fave). Over a few days, we went as far out as Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and then backtracked back to Rekyjavik for two more nights. It was AMAZING. We stayed at a great place in Vik for two nights and enjoyed Black Crust pizza! And the Lava Show was so cool. We did Blue Lagoon after landing because Sky requires kids to be 12...but since DS will be 11.5 this summer, I'm trying to figure out if I can sneak him in lol. For 2024, we're heading west and then north before driving back south to Westman Islands. And maybe see Golden Circle stuff on our last full day, but since I skipped it once, I feel like I don't mind skipping it again. I'd be happy to email you everything I did and had for the 2022 trip (we paid a travel agent to plan the whole thing and book all our hotels) and and additional good stuff for my 2024 plans. Hotels are already hard to come by and VERY EXPENSIVE so lodging is always the first thing you should sketch out.

brux ooh good note about sky lagoon. Our youngest three won’t be of age, so blue lagoon it will be! Accommodations are a nightmare between cost and availability. I snagged a nice Airbnb that could fit our size family that wasn’t crazy expensive when I was initially planning, fx it’s available next year too. ETA: closer to my booking I may message you for further deets. Thanks so much.

I have a flight credit I need to use before March 4th, so I’m trying to find something fun and a flight away to do in February. I really thought we had used it already, but I guess I used points and not the credit. Any recs for a long weekend from Houston are welcome!
And my sister and I decided that we want to take our mom to Maine for her 60th birthday in May, so I need to plan for that too.

MH and I were invited to a wedding in Cartegena at the end of April and I’m trying to convince MH to go. Has anyone been to Cartegena or have any recs?

Another year of racing here. Which means we will have our week in Florida between the Florida and Georgia races and most of a week in Indiana for that race. I think we're picking up another series this year so it's looking like pretty much every weekend from March to November is full. 🤣

DS is going to space camp in June, so DH and I will be hanging in AL for a week. I’ll take any recs for things for us to do. In November DS and I will take a mother/son trip to Universal in FL. I think there might be more travel in 2025 for us. I need to know how space camp goes! I've been eying it for the kids but at this point I need it to line up with our week we're already in Florida for the races. 🤣

Replying to this from Jamaica. We’re really enjoying the all inclusive hotel we’re at as a family.
I’d never been to Jamaica at all, but it’s beautiful and the people are really welcoming.

I will say that spots for the summer camps book very fast, so if you decide to go for it, don’t wait to make reservations. They also do family camp where the whole family can participate in a 3 day camp and I think you can schedule that all year round

I think we (as a family) are going to lovely Cleveland (lol) for a family reunion this summer. I haven’t been back since my grandma’s funeral almost 10 years ago. We are just trying to figure out the dates for softball state tournament, on the off chance DD1 makes the all star team and they make it to state. If she does make the 10U team, they actually do have a chance. It’s likely going to be the best division team in our league.
We were also invited back to Montana, but it would probably be difficult to swing both.
