We are starting to have drama with the school and will probably call an IEP meeting soon, but trying to be a little patient with back to school night tomorrow and getting some general blanks filled in.
They failed to notify us of a MAP test last week (though DD1 knew and didn't say anything, but based on behavior everything made sense once we did!, she has another one tomorrow- tonight should be fun!). DD has also been in the nurse 3 out of the last 4 days of school for physical complaints, so anxiety management at school is not going well.
We had drama with the VP on Friday- we've never interacted with her before. We got a call saying that we needed to bring DD a change of clothes because her bum was hanging out of her shorts while at the board. The VP said she was in the class observing and saw it herself. If we couldn't bring clothes, they were going to give her something to change into. So, we were 100% confident of what she was wearing and her shorts were actually double layer and she had bike shorts built in, so we knew that was not physically possibly. I also knew at the beginning of last year there was a lot of attention on 5th grade girls and their clothing (sexist much?) so we were pretty riled up. We said no, she didn't need to change. I knew DD was actually at the nurse at this time (who is wonderful) and she was able to confirm for me DD's shorts were fine and suggested I talk to DD in case they said something to her, and they hadn't, but she said she also hadn't been to the board that morning. So I email the teacher and am like what is going on?? and I never hear back from her but get a call back from the VP that she approached DD at lunch to confirm who it was and talk to her (what did she say??) and that she had the wrong name (which raises a lot of questions). Meanwhile, DD is now anxious that she is going to get in trouble for what she wears to school (88 and humid today, went in full leggings and baggy sweatshirt) and we are like OF ALL THE PEOPLE TO GET THIS WRONG ABOUT, they picked the wrong one. We are so pissed.

I'm like how would she have been given the wrong name if this was such an obvious clothing issue? Was there another reason DD was being pointed out to the VP? What are the teachers saying about her?? If the teachers had been consulted (were they?), could this have all been avoided??? GRRRRRRRRRRR And I'm mad on the behalf of this other child.
4 days later and it still raises my blood pressure!

byjove thinking of you My daughter is seeing the nurse nearly every day too. The counselor is not great, so she’s learned to seek out the nurse or 504 coordinator for help. And dress codes are such bull shit and a waste of time.

That's really frustrating byjove The dresscode stuff is always rooted in sexism. Children shouldn't be sexualized!

I finally got my FB campaign page going and signed up for Venmo. I need to figure out if I can "design" a business card, logo, and postcard/flyer myself or if I should pay someone. I also need to figure out what to put on them, the most concise snippets about me.
I helped at a local festival this weekend with the school levy committee (that I'm also part of) and introduced myself as a school board candidate and a few people asked if I had a card or anything. I'm planning on going to the homecoming parade in 3 weeks so hopefully I'll have something to hand out then. I can't be in it, but I can pass out stuff on the sidewalk. Same for the levy committee, they plan to pass stuff out too

How the hell do you call home about the wrong child? And for dress code, of all things? I hope that VP was seriously apologetic. It sounds like their little power trip backfired on them, but unfortunately hurt your daughter as well. Does she have a soft start written into her IEP? DS has the option of going straight to a trusted adult (for him, his counselor or a former IA) on days when he is extremely anxious. I hate that she feels any pressure about the testing. It’s all about the school, not her.

Wtaf byjove. That is seriously messed up. If you haven’t please documented it via email to someone. Maybe it was an unforgivable one off thing but if it’s a pattern the more documentation you have the earlier it will be to spot it.

Omg you guys. I was just telling DD that we didn’t care about the map test tomorrow and that she should do her best to get through it and she said today in math class that she wasn’t able to do one of the work sheets, she just doodled on it instead, and that the teacher rolled her eyes and said that she was going to show this to us (her parents). DD got upset obviously and I said where was the special Ed teacher? And she said she didn’t work with her today (even though she is supposed to have daily time and DD has generally found the support helpful- which is positive) and then other kids in the class started saying to her she is going to get in trouble.

IEP meeting request sent. The good news is that I think DD thought we would be mad at her, and obviously we aren't, and seeing us get so frustrated with her teacher distracted her enough that last evening went shockingly smoothly (after it had been gearing up to be cranky as expected shortly before). We are working so hard to make sure she knows we are on her side, and I think we are slowly making progress there.

byjove I swear we are living twin lives. It took a little while but now she believes us when we say we’re on her side. I’ve been disappointed in our schools many times. Keep up the good fight.

Venting for a moment. IEP meeting scheduled for Friday. Had a call with the advocate yesterday and after 5 weeks of school, they are maybe 20% compliant with DD's IEP. Whee! They did not give her specific math goals (they wanted to wait and see) but she does have specific emotional goals that are centered around weekly meetings with the school counselor. Has she met with her yet? NOPE. But she did send a postcard to our house that arrived yesterday saying she is so glad she's DD's counselor. neat.
We are also having some issues with DD's psychiatrist, which is so frustrating because we like him and DD likes him, and we think we are heading in a good trajectory and don't want to find someone new. We saw him almost 3 weeks ago now and DD started on a new med for bipolar support. He said he was going to check in at the 2 week mark before we increase the dose and was going to call with an appointment time (solo practice with part time admin support). We've not heard from him. I've emailed him saying things are going great- can you give us the ok to increase the dose and call us in more meds? I've called and left a message. At the last appointment he emphasized how we had a narrow wind of time to get her to dose on this med, so now we are holding steady at this low ramp up dose with no end in sight. We have a week left with no refills on it. Stressed that we are going to run out of that before we hear back from him. Can a pediatrician even call that in for us? We have no follow up on the calendar to at least have a date to tide us over. I don't know what to do.

byjove It can't hurt to ask the pediatrician. They might say no, but if you're not hearing back from the psychiatrist, you don't have many options, you know?

My daughter is starting girl scouts and we had our first troop meeting last week. I offered to keep track of badges for all the girls - does anyone have a cool spreadsheet they use? Or should I just go old school with paper lists in a binder to check off? Photo of me volunteering. ETA: I found this amazing spreadsheet. Thanks internet! gs-emilee.blogspot.com/p/badge-checklists.html

Lol. I was about to ask what level. I hope she has a blast! Daisy! She's in Kinder Aw, have fun! I have about 20 badges that I need to iron on my DD’s daisy vest. I’m awful about it. We have our organizational meeting for DD’s troop tonight. I’m at least as excited as her because it is such a great group of moms to hang with.

After 1.5 hours on the phone and 6 pharmacies (and multiple locations within chains) I found one that had DS13’s ADHD meds in stock at a mom & pop pharmacy at double our normal price. I am dreading doing this again in 30 days.

DD's girl scout troop disbanded due to lack of leadership...I'm not actually sad about it...we have too many activities already.
