Not sure if you guys have heard about this: bookriot.com/kirk-cameron-public-library-events-august-5/But they started booking rooms in my library system. So I planned a full day program for that day. PSA: That said, if you can, book your local library's meeting room for that day for some kind of meeting or activity. The League of Women Voters were denied use of one of our library meet rooms to pass out Vote No on Issue 1 swag because "it's partisan" so I would hope this would get the same treatment Allegedly the LWV got approval ahead of time from the library, but when they showed up the day of they were denied and ended up standing outside the parking lot instead

I wonder who made that decision. I know our local LWV did a vote no on issue 1 postcard writing our library a couple of weekends ago, and they have done other things there as well. fatpony that article is intense! There are two "confirmed" events in my overall area but not anywhere near me. As far as I know our rooms tend to book very quickly when registration becomes available. Our also charges if you're not a non profit or a few other circumstances but I think you can book in the county library system for free. I'm going to look into it more.

In the next installment of the universe is just fucking with us, in the fall out of DD's failed med trial, her mood has tanked and she has become full on addicted to screens. Evenings are awful (take this for the understatement I'm trying to convey as pretend we are managing life right now). We decided to cold turkey no screens for a bit. She sprained her at camp today and is in a boot. Of course we have a night at GWL for her birthday in 10 days and she flies to camp in 13 days...
ETA tonight actually went smoothly 🙏 maybe she’s turning a corner

I need everyone to be careful out there please!

Anyone have some tips for juggling returning to school plus work plus kids/ home? I applied for a job at my public library over a month ago and heard from the director today that I got it! I haven't worked in 13+ years, so I really felt I was a long shot and decided to enroll in a certificate program (it's been 20+ yrs since college) in fall so I'd be a stronger candidate next time a position opened.
I was not expecting to be managing all of this together, but I am really excited and open to the challenge.

It's only part time to start, so I should (theoretically) be able to do it all with some good time management. I'm trying to restrain myself from buying all the things, but a decent sized wall calendar is definitely on my list.

So no matter what during thevweek you know you will clean or do laundry on x day and work on homework on x day and etc etc. Time blocking is really helpful for me.

Congratulations Ls2012! I was on the fence about continuing to work in law, and started back to school with an eye toward a career change. I was not prepared for how long it would take for my study skills to come back. I was a very strong student in younger years, but those are extinguishing skills. It may have been because I went back for math/science classes and lost many skills. I regained them, but it was more difficult than I anticipated.

This is really good for me to keep in mind, so I don't get massively critical of myself if I flounder a bit at first. I did have a mini panic attack this morning thinking about juggling it all, but blurnette989 's idea to schedule blocks of time for specific things is really going to be critical to manage it. I feel like I'm going to have post-its all over the house for awhile, though. 😜

My little street got hit really hard with the microbursts that came though yesterday. I don’t know what universal forces were looking out for us, but the houses directly next to/across/and behind us have significant tree damage affecting homes and cars. We have dangling power lines (still) and we still have power but most of my street doesn’t. We have a lot of debris in our yard and our fence was damaged, but that is a small pittance compared to others.

I missed most of yesterday’s storm because I was seeing Barbie. It had just started to sprinkle when I walked into the theater, we got all of the notifications about the storm during the previews, and by the time the movie was over, it was sunny and 10 degrees cooler than it had been.
There are a couple of streets in my neighborhood that still don’t have power. They’re all culdesacs with low priority. There are lots of downed branches, but no major damage. According to H, our house didn’t lose power at all.

It was really spooky with the power flickering right after we saw Haunted Mansion lol
