I'm very anxious. I had an interview Monday and it went well. I'm supposed to hear today or tomorrow if i get a next round interview, but also we leave Friday for 5 days in Munich/Salzburg so i am anxious if I'll have to interview while on my 10 year anniversary trip but also i REALLY want the job. Ughhhhhhh.

Since we have so many experts in lots of things, I'm hoping someone might have some knowledge. My husband has awful teeth and last year my employer provided dental coverage went from meh to super crappy.
We are creeping our insurance through my employer, but he could also get it through his. My questions: 1) Generally, can you buy dental without getting medical? 2) Is it worth it to try and double up on dental coverage?

And at least when I still had champus through my dad i always doubled up on dental insurance where i could. It worked better for large procedures though and was less helpful on day to day stuff.

If you did his and yours, his would be primary and yours secondary. If kids are covered for both, whichever of you has a birthday before the other in the calendar year, that would be primary and the other secondary.

fatpony, dental insurance is not covered under the ACA so you should be able to pick and choose. I always feel like dental covers very little. I'd read all the policy detail to make sure you'll get enough coverage to be worth the double premiums.

fatpony, do you have a dental college nearby? Most offer clinical treatment programs for training purposes at a significantly reduced cost versus a private practice dentist. The trade off is everything is slower/less convenient but you also get the newest technology and skills. If you go on the open marketplace I know Delta Dental has a really good reputation.

Our dental policies are separate, but our health insurance does cover preventative cleanings for kids 12 and under. We actually don't have a dental policy. It is cheaper for us to pay for routine care out of pocket than the monthly premiums. We are fortunate to not need extensive dental work, but even with braces OOP- it honestly was a wash between what we would have paid in premiums vs the amount covered.

I have my talk with the grad students today. I really appreciate all of your feedback last month about it. I'm a bit nervous.
We also didn't end up having our IEP meeting yesterday because the old social worker left and the new social worker didn't get the message that she needed to interview us- we found out when we arrived for the meeting. Womp womp. But we got a bit of debrief from the evaluators at least. We have the social worker interview tomorrow and then the rescheduled meeting is for Nov 15. Just getting it in.
So my take away from the meeting was that she will likely be IEP eligible. Her teacher- who is very sweet and literally just graduated from college this spring- says DD is fine in class, she has no concerns. DD's 1st unit reading assessment was a 16% and her math was a 25%, with the expected benchmark of being proficient at 70% or above. How does she not have concerns?! The woman that did DD's classroom observation was also present, we hadn't heard her data yet- and DD was described during the hour the observer was there- as totally disengaged, not interacting with peers, chewing on her nails, left the classroom for 6 minutes, and sitting in the back of the classroom by herself with her stuffed animal. Which was sad to hear, but honestly what we thought was likely happening. Her teacher still said she is fine class. DD has a lot of anxiety around music and gym class (loud, overwhelming) and I suggested that some input from one of those teachers would be interesting to me, I thought maybe an email- but they are going to have the observer try to get to one of those classes as well. My heart hurts for DD.

byjove, oh thats heartbreaking, your poor DD. Also WTF to the teacher? yes absolutely push for an IEP AND maybe a parttime para to help her engage for a bit.

((Hugs)) byjove. I hope the meeting is a wake-up call for her teacher. It’s too easy for kids to slip through the cracks when their challenges aren’t causing classroom disruption, but obviously not okay.

A also has a lot of trouble with overwhelm in music and PE. He had extra coverage from a para in the past to help him follow directions in both. He is allowed to take breaks or do alternative activities in PE if he is overwhelmed. In music, he has the option to wear noise reducing headphones and opting out if his teacher calls on him. He doesn’t often need the accommodations anymore, but knowing he has them has really reduced his anxiety in those specials.

It’s too easy for kids to slip through the cracks when their challenges aren’t causing classroom disruption, but obviously not okay. I think this is what it is coming down to. She is fidgeting and distractible, but she is not a source of disruption and generally viewed as a sweet, biddable kid, so "no issues." I haven't seen her report card yet for this quarter- so the classroom unit assessment data was also new to us- but we have PTCs tomorrow, and it's only 15 minutes, but I'm hoping we'll be able to have a productive conversation.

fatpony we’ve done years of dual coverage dental (thanks to my ILs never taking H to the dentist and his teeth are horrible). We can take it separate from Health insurance.

Good luck blurnette989 ! I'm sorry you weren't able to have the meeting byjove . Hopefully you all can begin putting a plan further into place once you have the rescheduled one. I'm sorry for your daughter and I know it must be hard on you too. It sounds like you are doing a great job advocating for her and staying on this, giving suggestions and thinking through each piece, which means so much.

I'm sorry you are getting such runaround from the school byjove . Even a first year teacher should have been in touch with you based on those assessment scores.

byjove, I am so sorry. Holy hell that doesn't sound like falling through the cracks - more like ignoring a gaping hole. I am afraid to learn what that teacher thinks is a problem. Yikes. Sending you good vibes.

Do you remember at the beginning of the school year when I posted that the VP tried to blame all of the issues last year in my DD having two new teachers (one brand new to teaching) and low and behold she has two first year teachers again this year!?!

Im in a loop if I can’t believe I’m expected to medicate my child to try and make it through a school day, I can’t believe she struggles this much at school and is she where she should be?, are we bad parents?, it would be nice to send her to the Adhd school in our neighborhood, we can’t afford $60k a year (not kidding!) for said school, what happens when anxiety gets worse in middle school from fights and she understands the threat of school violence, and hopefully things will work out with this new plan! 😵💫
