I really do apologize for sounding like a broken record guys, I know you've all been shoer supportive every time I cry about my parenting here. Its just so overwhelming basically solo parenting. Everything feels like a reflection of my parenting because no grandparents influence, no daycare influence and H gets home M-F about 10 mins before she goes to bed. You're doing great! If lack of influence is your concern, are you able to take her places like the library, playground, etc., where she can have other kid interaction even if just for a short time?

We went yesterday and she did really great! Previously she wouldnt really interact with other people but yesterday she didn't even want to play with me. Only with this other girl and her mom. #nothurt hah

Hi all. It's been a busy week so far. DS seems to be thisclose to having his second bottom canine push through the gum, and he has been a MESS the past few days. We will have a few good days and then a whole week or more of tough days. I know he hates feeling bad too, but I just want my sweet boy back. Re: speech - my DD had a delay that we kept an eye on and finally got evaled once she turned two and had maybe 3 words. She went through one year of weekly therapy through our state program, and now she talks nonstop! But her delay has made me hypersensitive about DS's speech. doodlemommy, I appreciate your insight because it makes me feel better. DS has somewhere around 15-20 consistent words. One of my best friends has a little girl that's 7 weeks older than him and probably has 50 words, including 2-3 word phrases. I'm admittedly the worst at comparing, but I have to remember that she is older than him AND every child is different. I'm a firm believer in the mom gut and to push EI when necessary, so that is my only advice to anyone who has concerns. So much this. DD had 49 words at 17 months, 77 at 18 months. She talked a lot and early and even now she’s always talking and has a huge vocabulary. DS is 17 months and currently has 21 consistent words and a handful that he has said a couple times but not consistently. I always feel like he’s “behind” because DD was so far ahead of the curve when really he is doing just fine. It is so hard not to compare

I tend to see #2 being more true, or at least what I see. What are your thoughts on that, as a professional? Any truth to any of it?

I tend to see #2 being more true, or at least what I see. What are your thoughts on that, as a professional? Any truth to any of it? Fiction! This is a super good link of FAQs with answers to common misconceptions/myths: www.hanen.org/helpful-info/articles/fact-or-fiction--the-top-10-assumptions-about-earl.aspxI copied #5 which is about siblings: 5. Second- and third-born children are late to talk because their older siblings do the talking for them. ►False Several studies have shown that the language development and skills of first-born and later-born children are similar. In fact, some studies have shown superior skills in later-born children in the areas of pronoun use and conversation skills[14]. One study showed that first-born children reach the 50-word milestone earlier, but that once children had reached the 50-word milestone, there were no differences between first- and later-born children[15]. So while older siblings often interrupt and talk for their younger siblings, this does not seem to have a negative impact on the younger sibling’s development.

August Blooms second the speech ‘spurt’ phenomenon. I am always comparing my DD to my boss’ DD who is 1 week older. A month ago his little girl could repeat words or phrases he said intelligibly and mine would stare at me like I was fucking crazy if I tried to get her to repeat what I said and I got worried but she started doing the same thing all of a sudden a couple of weeks ago. Poor girl already being compared to the boss’ daughter. 😆

We had to lower the crib to the lowest setting yesterday, which was also DS2's 18 month 'birthday'. I have a "cute" little video of him trying (and succeeding before we stop him) to climb out.
TOO MANY MILESTONES.
I've been lurking. Life has been crazy lately.

Guys - am I the last parent to know that mac and cheese has a variety that's made with a 1/4 serving of vegetables (cauliflower) in the pasta? It was pretty decent, I can taste the cauliflower but E gives no fucks.

I have taken the girls up to my parents for the last part of our Spring Break. H is staying to do outdoor yard chores and all his March madness stuff.
The girls are already up waaaay past their bedtime but they are wound up on grandparent attention and long car naps so hopefully we’ll get back on a schedule soon.

DS2 now has Herpangina and was up all night with a high fever.
The contagion is spreading! 😩

Taitai I’m sorry! We have a sick little one here too. I guess she got what her brother had. She’s got a fever and an awful sounding cough, sounds croup-y. FML.

The sickness sucks, but if it has to happen, I guess now is better than when we’re at the beach next week for some fun during my dad’s visit. Fingers crossed everyone is healthy one week from now 🤞🤞

So much stress at work today that I was happy daycare called to pick up a sick DD2. I was frustrated and burst into tears in front of colleagues and a manger I barely know. So happy to get out of there and have the weekend off. DH is on call all weekend so not much planned.
We are now at the walk-in to get her gross eye looked at.

I am so sorry about all these sick kids August Blooms and Taitai and bootsorhearts1 also Taitai I don’t know what it is your children have and it sounds like the last remaining thing DD2 hasn’t gotten so I’m just gonna hold off googling it 😬 cythe neither the girls nor my H notice when I get the Mac-n-cheese with cauliflower. It’s probably the most veggies any of them will eat at a given time 😂😩 thatgirlrachel DD2s lower canines just broke through the gums and holy guacamole this has been the worst teethin of my parenting experience with either girl thus far. She is a hot mess and ready to eat her hand most days.

We took the girls to the opening day of a local zoo near my parents. The weather was gorgeous even though most of the animals weren’t out yet. DD1 loved every minute of it and DD2 seemed to stop chewing her hand/coat/sister long enough to smile a few times.

We talk about animals a lot at our house so I'm excited for zoos when E is old enough to enjoy them and/or make connections with all the books we read

The animals move a whole lot slower so they’ve been easier for both girls to see and track in the exhibits. Plus they’re usually smaller so we’ve been in and out in a morning and ready for naptime!

Just checked and my aquarium has a season pass for $54 and E is free until shes 4! The Virginia aquarium was so much more expensive!

danvers Herpangina is basically HFM, but only in the mouth. It starts with a high fever for 2 days, followed by painful blisters/ulcers in the mouth and back of the throat for about 5 days. It’s extremely contagious and goes around the schools here often. This is the second time DS1 has had it. Once a kid gets the strain, your kid will be immune to it going forward, so I am hoping these two strains are it for DS1! Hoping DS2 doesn’t get it again either - he is miserable right now. At least DS2’s fever broke, so that’s good news.

We’re on day two of fever and croup with little one. I just had to give her Tylenol what what in the butt because she can’t have Motrin for another hour and her fever was going up again. This mama needs some sleep. 😫 August Blooms ugh pink eye sucks. Getting drops in their eyes is not easy either.

Her eye is already looking less goopy after a few rounds.

Anyone have any good quick weeknight dinner recipes that don’t involve ground meat? I feeling very uninspired lately.

Anyone have any good quick weeknight dinner recipes that don’t involve ground meat? I feeling very uninspired lately. Do you have an instant pot? Or crockpot? I have lots depending on what tools you have available! Let me know if you want actual recipes for any of these - chicken enchiladas (filling) - broccoli cheddar soup - chipotle chicken/potato/corn chowder - beef stew - Korean bbq beef rice bowls (this one is ground meat though) - bbq beef or pulled pork (shredded meats) - chicken noodle soup or tortilla soup

Hopefully it’s iver for you all quickly.

We spent 3 hours today waiting at the doctors office because DH was worried about little one. They did a flu test and it’s not that, could be HFM. I should have pushed for a strep test because they said she had a white spot in her throat but by that time we were both tired and cranky. Her fever is only low grade now and I have her some Tylenol so she could sleep. We will see what happens tomorrow.
I’m so ready for cold and flu season to be over.

bootsorhearts1 August Blooms I hope your kiddos get better soon! Pink eye and days of fever are no fun at all. As for us, DS2 seems fine now- no more fever, and his appetite is back. I am sure he is still in some discomfort, due to the blisters in his mouth, but he doesn’t show it. We have to keep him away from other kids for another few days until the spots go away - will be so nice when this is all over! DH caught my cold, but he didn’t get it as bad as I did. I’m 95% over my sickness now, which is also nice.

So much sickness going around O’17! Hopefully everyone’s kids get better soon. Winter isn’t quite done yet, we got a few CM of snow overnight and it’s the sticky kind so everything looks beautiful covered in the snow.
DD2 is learning the parts of her body and now pats her bum and say bum bum.

doodlemommy I have a slow cooker and an instapot but my DH is dead against running the crockpot while no one is home. Your pulled pork recipe and chipotle chicken/ potato/ corn chowder sounds good too. I have decent recipes for the others you mentioned but haven’t made a few in a while.
