Ok guys we are stuck on boy names right now. Our top two picks are Levi and August. Middle name may be Matthew but we are not stuck on that. Avery would be another choice of middle name but I wouldn't like August Avery. Our. Last name is 1 syllabul and starts with K. Which one do you guys like? Both names are cute and sound great with Matthew I don’t think I’d use Avery with August either, but it’s not bad. We almost used Avery, but that was our girl name and I don’t know if we will try for #3.

We found out we are having a girl!! We have so far agreed on a name. But I'm not able to commit yet. Penelope Joyce nn Penny I also liked Fiona but if course dh said no. Sigh. Ds is Se.bas.tian Ja.mes We always have a hard time with names since we have different styles. I tend to like non trendy classic correctly spelled names. DH is on the surname for first names, masculine names for girls bandwangon. So we always struggle with this. We find out tomorrow what we are having so that will help! I'm pretty sure it's a boy. Our last name seems to flow better with J middle names. Probably why my H's family all have J middle names lol Joyce and Violet are maternal family names that I really would like to use. At least one of them. Girl- Georgia Violet Violet Joyce Penelope Joyce Boy- we agree on nothing yet.

We are hopelessly adrift on choosing a first name for this boy. Boy names were always easier for us in the past and we had our boys names picked long before conception for DS1 and DS2. Now we have used all of the names we love and have nothing. If this one were a girl we would have named her Tamsin.
We have the middle name for this boy picked out but that’s it. Middle name will be Dade. It was going to be our first name but for some reason it just doesn’t feel right to me for this boys name.
DS1 is Le.vin Eze.kiel and DS2 is Sil.as Kee.nan
We have been through so many boys names for this one and have had no luck so the search continues.

We’ve already named 3 boys with names we had picked out forever ago. We had a girl name, but it took a long time to find one more boy name we could fall in love with. It’s weird not having years to get used to the name first. I love your sons names! I’m sure you’ll find something perfect for this one too.

We have not even really begun to think about or discuss names. I will just be happy if we come up with something before delivery. 🤦🏻♀️

We're finally starting to discuss names now that we know it's a boy. With DD we came up with a short list that dwindled down to 2 top names by the time I delivered. When we saw DD, we picked her name - we'll probably do the same with this one. DD is Aud.rey Mar.ie
Our list for boys so far:
Alexander (nn Xander) Matthew (nn Matty) Elliot Thomas Asher (nn Ash) Carson
I think Alexander and Matthew are the front runners. For middle names, we have a family name from H's side (Anson) that may or may not work with some of the names from the above list. We're pretty flexible there, though.

We found out DS was a boy at 15 weeks and had his name picked out at 17 weeks. Poor second kid, lol.

Help me either way. Like I said upthread we are set for a girl. For a boy I'm struggling. How would you feel if your DS1 had a strong family name? Would you feel corned into giving your other son a family name or would you say screw it and just use a random name you liked?
We have a Francesco. I like the idea of using the name Giuseppe but it's not family at all so I feel like this weird sort of guilt lol

I like the idea of using the name Giuseppe but it's not family at all so I feel like this weird sort of guilt lol We actually are kind of here. DS1 is Walter, which was my grandfather's name, and also wasn't very common, which was important to us. The only name we really both like right now is Benjamin, and I think we're like, 95% on that will be his name. We had thrown around Jonathan, even when I was pregnant with W because that was H's grandfather's name, except I really, really can't get on board with the possibility of "Johnny" as a nickname, and I honestly don't even love "John" that much. So even though there is 0 family history of a Benjamin on either side, and it's currently #6 on the social security list of popular names. I think it's way more important to like your kid's name than follow some random criteria you may or may not have used in the past.

I almost wish we haven't told anyone the names we're considering, because we talked about it with MH's family over the weekend in conversation and of course his dad has very strong opinions about my favorite of our top two (Gabriel) because he thinks it's too biblical-sounding (he's an atheist, we are Jewish and Catholic), when really it seems like 90% of the "classic" boy names are somehow related to the bible or saints in some way and trendy names are not my style at all. And I know it's going to color MH's feelings on the name because he's always looking for his dad's approval.

Dramaphile, I’m sorry your lovely name wasn’t respected. H’s family tried hard to get us to talk about names yesterday and we were a firm no. His dad was a dick about DS’s name when we announced it at 20 something weeks, so we decided not to say anything until the baby’s born this time around. I don’t get people that push you to talk about your naming choices just to crap on them. Like, that is basic manners.

Yeah MH's dad has basically no filter and just says exactly what he thinks, even when it's dickish. He's 76 and a total curmudgeon. At least he'll be happy about the middle name no matter what (it's his middle name).

I’m sorry Dramaphile. When we told our families we were naming this baby Caleb both my mom and mil immediately started giving me other name choices they liked better. This is the third time they’ve done this crap to us. It’s kinda why we didn’t even think about it this go around and just said this is the name period. Everyone will have an opinion, but if you love it then don’t back away. They will love it when they meet the baby anyway.

Apparently Lyman is a family name on MH's side. Um... nope sorry. Of course it probably makes me look like a bitch because I shot down pretty much everything (as nicely as I could).

Dramaphile I’m not even religious and I love Gabriel. There are some names that immediately make me think of the Bible, but Gabriel isn’t one of them. People can really go shove their opinions. We won’t be sharing a name ahead of time because I don’t want to hear it. If you didn’t make the baby you don’t get a say.

People suck. Just be happy for people and let them live their lives.
You don’t have to lie and say you like the name, but don’t be super obvious about disliking it.
I have a friend who was like, “Hmm... why Lucas? Just curious.” Which is a clear indication to me that she doesn’t like it. She went on to ask if we’d call him Luke. I told her we would sometimes, but mostly Lucas.
Every time she’s mentioned him she says Luke. It’s like she doesn’t want to acknowledge what his full name is.
Everyone else has responded very well luckily. Our family adores the name.

I agree with you regarding people and their opinions. But since mine is a positive one I will say that I think Lucas is great! Classic and strong but not overused. ETA forgot to tag notelsie
