Hi All,
We've been trying since April of 2016. I got pregnant quickly the first time, but had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. I then didn't get pregnant again for a year, leading to some beginning fertility tests, which revealed MFI. My husband's count was ok (17mil), but the motility was at 26%, progression was at 1+ and morphology was at 1%. We had an appointment scheduled with an RE, but then the night before, we got a surprise BFP. Unfortunately, I experienced a MMC and had to have a D&C at 12.5 weeks.
I knew back when the test was done that the motility was low, but we just requested and received the full report today, so the news about progression and morphology is new to me.
My cycle just now returned after the last miscarriage, and I am just struggling with next steps. Since we'd gotten pregnant naturally, before I got the report over with full details, I'd thought maybe we'd try for a few months before going back down the RE road. But I have read that morphology can be linked to the risk of a miscarriage, and I feel paralyzed by fear right now.

Welcome to IF. I'm so sorry for your losses. I would go ahead and see the RE. You don't have to do any treatments if you don't want to, but I would at least hear the RE's plan and go from there.

I am so sorry for your losses. I would also go ahead and see the RE to see what his/her treatment plan would be for you. Welcome and I hope your stay here is short!

Thanks orangehibiscus and obscureference. I also have PCOS and I always thought that would be the big thing to overcome. But my cycles have become much more regular in the last couple of years, and the MFI just threw me for a loop. It also has been a challenge that we relocated while pregnant, so I'm having to start over with a new fertility clinic. I asked my husband to call for an appointment yesterday, and they wouldn't even schedule it because they "only treat women". But the entire reason I asked him to schedule it was because his schedule is much harder to accommodate than mine, and OBVIOUSLY I want him to be with me for the appointment. I don't understand why receptionists as fertility clinics can be so damn rude!

MsG I have PCOS too, and we have a few other issues. It sucks so much! I'm sorry that the RE's office wouldn't schedule your appointment. I'm majorly side-eyeing them though if they "only treat women". Is there another RE's office around you? I hope you can get an appointment somewhere soon!

It was the Johns Hopkins Fertility Clinic so it totally threw me for a damn loop! I wanted to go there b/c my regular OB is at Hopkins and she sent the referral straight to them. I'm lucky I live in a big enough metropolitan area that there are other options, though I will have to figure out which are in network with my insurance. Not that my insurance covers much, but every bit helps!
We were previously going to one in the DC area (where we used to live)that also has locations up near Baltimore where we relocated. But we tried unsuccessfully for 6 weeks to get a return phone call when my husband was trying to get his records, so I'm not particularly keen on them either. I only finally got a response when I reached out through Facebook and a marketing person helped us!
Is this typical? Having now had two bad experiences with two different well-known clinics, I am getting super frustrated!

It sucks you're having issues finding a place that you like and that gets back to you in a timely manner. If it helps at all, I used these two resources to find a clinic I like: www.fertilityiq.comwww.cdc.gov/art/artdata/index.html

I'm so sorry about your losses and that you find yourself here in IF. We're in a similar boat coming back after a loss and trying to decide whether to go ahead with treatment or keep trying on our own. The ladies here gave me the same advice, which is to talk to my RE and see what they have to say. So that would be my advice to you as well, find and RE that you like and then you'll be able to make some informed decisions.

Ugh that is so frustrating with the clinics. Getting records sent can be a nightmare! My mom just went through a whole ordeal trying to get records transferred and it turned out they were just sitting in a pile with a bunch of other stuff that someone needed to go through. For six months!!!

MsG Welcome, although I am so sorry you have to be here. Ugh that is so rude of the receptionist!! I think it is typical. I have always had to fight hard for communication with the IF clinic, sadly. The amazing dr has made every frustration worth it, however. I would definitely recommend seeing an RE. With known MFI and two early losses, at the very least you deserve to have expert answers to your questions and concerns at this time, even if the decision is to try naturally again for a certain amount of time.

♪♫choppinbroccoli♫♪, Thank you! That's super helpful. Will definitely check it out! charliefox, Thank you, and I'm sorry for your losses as well. It's definitely good advice, and I think I just needed to hear from others that I'm not being crazy by going right back even though we had a pregnancy. obscureference, Right?! I mean seriously, what is that? We also had to pay for the records! Which fine, it costs them time to pull them. But they NEVER gave them to us to begin with, and it's bullshit to me that we can't get it once for free considering the price we had to pay out of pocket (insurance didn't cover it) for the tests to begin with!

sunshiney, Thanks so much. I so do not understand why places that are trying to get you to spend multiple thousands of dollars with them do not put more effort into better front office staff! My fertility insurance coverage isn't great (it covers 50% up to a lifetime max of $10k - which I guess at least they cover something?), so I'm a little afraid of the costs of it all, but you are so right. I need answers from an expert, and I just need to find an RE I can be comfortable with. I definitely want one who treats men too though, given that we already know DH has an issue that needs to be addressed.

MsG RE's train as OB/GYNs and then have further training in endocrinology. I think it's common for them to refer male patients to a urologist for specialized testing and treatment. In my experience, the RE and Uro were both involved.

MsG RE's train as OB/GYNs and then have further training in endocrinology. I think it's common for them to refer male patients to a urologist for specialized testing and treatment. In my experience, the RE and Uro were both involved. That completely makes sense to me, but I'm thrown by the fact that they wouldn't even let him schedule the appointment - which would be an initial consultation with them that I would want us both present for. I just don't even understand why they wouldn't just let us schedule that appointment and then refer him to wherever they wanted him to do testing. Also update, I had messaged my OB asking her to send a referral to their andrology clinic for my husband to get his sperm analysis repeated b/c it's been 6 months since he did the first one, and she wouldn't do it. She said OB's don't do those referrals. Which what the actual hell? My old OB was the one who did the referral for the first one, and I know that it is not uncommon for OBs to be the ones to do that. We are setting up an appointment for a fertility clinic too, but since we can't get in for quite some time, I'm anxious to see if his sperm results are still the same as they were in June.
