addymac - How has this week gone regarding sleep? Any improvement? Age: almost 10 months Milestones: Pulling up and side cruising on everything. He's also trying to stand on his own and does a pretty good job for a few seconds at a time. It's crazy. I think he'll be walking by the new year. If he's not, he'll be really close. Challenges: Food still. He loves food, but his gag reflex so so strong still. IDK... he eats so that's what's important LOL We also had an advanced hearing test a couple weeks ago. It's standard for babies that spent more than 5 days in the NICU. He passed with flying colors, but it turns out he needs the test every year until he's 4. Just one more thing to worry about. We also have some blood work to take care of before his 1-year appointment. All these things because of his NICU stay. Bleck. He's also on the small side - 30th percentile for height and weight. The pedi isn't super concerned (kid grew 2" and over 2 lbs. in 3 months), but we have to keep an eye on his growth. Funny/cute stories: He officially calls MH "dada" and my daughter "lala". I am still "dada" and DD and MH love to point that out LOL How are you? Okay. Anxious about his development and just hoping he stays on track. Sigh... He was 8 lbs. 5.6 oz. at birth. How are we concerned about growth?! Anything else? I received word this week that my tax season hours will be insane. Basically 10-hour days Monday through Friday, then full Saturdays and some Sundays. I'm dreading it. But I'll be very rich. QOTW: Just introducing him to snow and seeing his cold, miserable face cry about it LOL I hate to see him cry, and I know it'll happen. I feel like most babies hate the cold weather. Or maybe just mine LOL

oldbaylover1024 omg to those work hours 😥 I’m sorry you have that added worry about his growth development to keep in the back of your mind- hugs. Haha- my kid loves the cold. He HATES being hot and is so happy to hang out in his diaper or a T-shirt onesie when DH and I are in sweatpants and hoodies. He LOVES going for walks outside even though it’s “feels like 20*” right now And gets mad when I bundle him up. It’s absurd. He will probably like the snow haha.

Age: 15+ weeks - I finally sat down and counted his weeks age bc I felt bad when someone asked me and I was like 🤷🏻♀️ He’s 3mo!
Milestones: grasping his rattle and holding onto it and shaking it!
Challenges: sleep. So he isn’t a beast this week like last, but naps are hit or miss lately. It’s harder to put him down to sleep even for a nap but today he did do a 2+ hour nap! 🙌🏼 But nights are still oof. The other night it took me two hours to get him to go down. Then a night of him waking up every hour from 6-10. And tonight it took an hour to get him to sleep and he was up after 30min and then took another 30 to get him to stay asleep once I laid him back down. Last night he woke up twice- 2 & 5:30, so that wasn’t terrible.
We started a bedtime routine tonight. My plan is a week of routine then start sleep training. And I’m going to work on sleep training naps, too. Oof.
Funny/cute stories: we went to the aquarium yesterday and he LOVED looking at all the fish in the big tank and the dolphins and whales. He was so happy, and then he fell asleep for his nap SO easily, it was redonk.
How are you? Just tired. So tired.
Anything else? Finding childcare sucks. We had picked an in home dcp who was willing to deal w our shitty hours and weekend coverage and last week she sent me a message with an FYI.... she’s pregnant again (her kid is 11weeks older than Noah!) and won’t be able to care for him after May. So we are looking for a new arrangement. So exhausting.
QOTW: What winter things are looking forward to doing with your little? Snow! Idk he’s pretty little.

addymac - I'd say you're ready for some sleep training! Routine was everything for C and my daughter. I swear it makes all the difference. Some folks don't understand why I'm so strict about their routines and it's because their kids automatically STTN. Mine did not. It took work, but it was worth it. I'm sorry to hear you haven't found another DC provider. FX something comes through soon. Can your previous provider give you any recommendations?

oldbaylover1024 any recs on how to sleep train or something to read? What method did you use? I just got the Ferber book from the library but it’s huge and when the fuck am I going to have time to read it??? No, she’s new to the neighborhood so she was only doing three kids and not a full fledged in home dc so she doesn’t know any nannies in the area 👎🏼

addymac - I'd say check out the Ferber book. Ferber worked well for J, but we started sleep training waaaay too late with her. We ended up doing a combo of Ferber and CIO. The biggest thing is getting them to go to sleep after you lay them down awake. They need to learn to put themselves to sleep. I had a tough time doing this with J because she would fall asleep nursing, then I'd transition her to the crib while she was asleep. When she'd wake up, I'd let her fuss it out for a bit, then go shoosh her, but I'd do everything in my power not to touch her. If she still didn't sleep, I'd rub her back a bit and walk out of the room. BUT she was an awful sleeper. Eventually we just went to CIO. It was hard, but effective. Sleep training is tough, but you're smart to do it now. I'd say read the book, then check out some other methods online (like the shuffle mom I think it's called) and see what works. Just keep in mind it'll take a few days for it to take effect. Patience is key.

oldbaylover1024 Thanks! I’m so terrified of having him cry. I know he’ll be ok but it breaks my heart and I KNOW I need to get over it. Maybe DH can do it and I’ll go on a mini vacation to a hotel lol. I wish.

I don't have a problem with CIO, but there is such a thing as too young for CIO, IMO.
