So after being diagnosed with unexplained secondary IF I got a surprise BFP on cycle 14, but last week we found out that my pregnancy only made it to 10 weeks. The doctor said we were free to TTC as soon as I felt comfortable but what does that mean for us?
Our original plan was to start IUI in January except now that seems silly since I was able to get pregnant. On the other hand, I don't think I can emotionally handle another year of TTC (if that's what it were to come to). I know this is a discussion H and I need to have with our RE but I was wondering if anyone had some insight?
Also, here's a dumb question: does the fact that I was able to get pregnant change how our insurance views my IF diagnosis/any following treatment?

Hi, I hope it’s ok I chime in here as I’m a grad turned lurker. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
:::TW: loss, SAIF, LC:::
I have a very similar story. I was diagnosed with unexplained 2IF a couple of years ago (I was AMA). While undergoing IF testing, I got a surprise natural BFP on cycle 11. Unfortunately a MMC was discovered at 8.5 weeks and I had a D&C. I went back to my RE after the loss to finish testing and discuss a plan. My RE left the options up to me - she said I could try again naturally (her recommendation was no more than 3 cycles) or start right away with treatment. I decided to TTC but after 2 cycles I still wasn’t pregnant and I realized I was ready to move forward with treatment. So we did a Femera/Gonal F TI cycle for cycle 14 and that resulted in my rainbow. I would definitely talk to your doctor but there may not be a right or wrong answer in this situation. ETA: it did not change our insurance at all but we also had no IF coverage so I’m not sure how that would be handled.
:::end TW:::
Sending lots of love to you (and everyone here).

Thanks, caer, for your response. After H and I are able to discuss it more in depth then we'll probably set up a meeting with our RE. Just as you experienced, I'm not sure how long I can go on TTC on our own before I'm ready to move forward. I guess only time will tell.

Oh charliefox, I'm so very sorry for your loss. All the hugs. I don't think that your pregnancy changes anything with IF with your insurance. I'm not exactly sure though. As far as treatments go, I would think that you could try again with what you did last go around. Were y'all TTC on your own or doing medicated TI? I would try to do something like caer did with only doing that for a few cycles max before moving on to IUI.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I don't think it's silly to move forward with IUI treatment...it took 14 cycles to get pregnant. That's 2IF, which it's reasonable and wise to treat. Also, after having had 2 losses, your chance of a further loss is somewhat increased, which compounds the chances of success when do you get pregnant- another factor making it reasonable to move forward with treatment.
And no, I can't imagine a scenario where your experience would change your dx or treatment in the eyes of your insurance.
But I think it's a great idea to talk it all through with your RE...this is so devastating, I hope your journey results in a rainbow very soon!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I do t have first hand experience here, but I don't think it's silly to continue with your IUI plans. Hopefully your RE will be able to shed some light, and in the end go with what you're comfortable doing.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
****TW/grad warning****
We were TFAS for about a year and a half before we saw an RE and during that time I had three early losses. The fact that I could GET pregnant but not STAY pregnant was what our RE was concerned with. She thought it was due to possibly slightly poor/immature egg quality (I had short cycles and normally O'd day 10-12) but all of my testing came back normal.
Anyway, none of that affected our coverage, diagnosis was secondary unexplained IF and that was that. We did three medicated IUI cycles (just a 2 day Clomid + trigger) and our third resulted in my successful pregnancy. I still O'd around the same CD, but the RE said that the Clomid can result in a stronger egg quality? Or...something like that IIRC.
So, yes. Make the RE appt. Between just trying on our own, then testing with the RE, then the medicated cycles, it was about 2 and a half years total TTC and I feel like the first half of that was so wasted.

Thank you everyone for your responses and making me not feel silly for still considering going ahead with out IUI plan. I haven't talked to H about in much, since my loss was so recent. My RE's office called the other day to check on me, I only listened to the message but I think my MW must have called them (she's the best, and she's also friends with our RE). Anyway, I'll try to talk to H about it soon so we can move ahead asap.
