I am needing a bit of inspiration with the holidays coming up. I am anticipating just a total free-for all at my parents' house and would like my contributions to be a healthy option. Anyone have any good appies or healthier dessert recipes for the holidays? And what are your favourite go-to healthy supper recipes/cookbooks/blogs?

DH and I fight all the time over the fact he doesn't consider fruit dessert, but I love a good fruit salad. Oranges, pomegranate seeds, kiwi - whatever winter fruits you like.
In terms of appetizers I love individual endive leaves topped with a spoonful of goat cheese and a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds.

We don’t app much, but one of my big focuses is including fruits and vegetables in every meal (eating event). I’m usually the one offering to bring a salad or vegetable side dish, mostly because I’ll fill my plate either way, and better to fill it with lower calorie and healthy options.

I like cucumber-salmon bites as an appetizer. Slice cucumber into rounds. Top with some horseradish, gravlax or smoked salmon and dill.

Also, a homemade hummus or white bean dip is really easy, and you can have veggie and bread options to spread it on.

I’ve also been thinking about how I might be able to riff on fresh Vietnamese spring rolls— maybe using some roasted winter root veggies like sweet potato or turnips in them.

CestLaVie, the Cookie & Kate blog has some good healthier dessert recipes. They're not generally grain free (although the almond cake topped with strawberries and rhubarb is, and that looks really good!) but they do use whole grains and natural sweeteners, and are usually dairy free as well.
