Not quite the same, but I can't stand the ds, dd, dh, ect. Like, of course your kid is dear to you. And do you have to specify your H is dear to you so people know your marriage isn't on the rocks or something? I just don't get it. I use mh for "my husband".

For me it’s just something I copied from the girls over here 😉.

We use naughty. Like we tell Millie to stop being naughty. Adam calls her bad and I really don’t like that. I hate it when people say expresso instead of espresso. klong11 I can’t wait to see it! trtlcrzy I never understood that with the doctors office either. I hope she’s feeling better ASAP. I’m sitting on the fancy Vonlane bus about to head to Dallas. I have 4 episodes of gossip girl downloaded and I plan on getting a gin and tonic as soon as we start moving.

I dislike when people say 'I can't imagine' in the context of giving support in terrible situations.
Like, a situation is so bad that you (general you) 'can't imagine it', yet it is someone's reality at the time. It takes away sincerity of the support IMO.

T be honest dd/ds/Dh is just the abbreviation for the kids and my H on here, I haven’t even thought about the ‘dear’ part of this (but of course they are indeed dear to me), this might have something to do with the fact that in my day to day life I speak Dutch 😉.

I hate it when people use the word ‘literally’ with things that are clearly not literally. Same thing for (air) quotes. N has started using "literally" all of a sudden. It's cute. She surprisingly uses it in the right context most of the time, but then sometimes shes completely off and makes me laugh. I hate the word schmear. Hate hate hate. It sounds so bad to me. Smear? Sure. Schmear? No. I also hate when people say SAMwhich instead of sandwich.

Courtesy of an N16er, I do like the word 'jalopy', I'm trying to bring it back.
Example: My car won't start in the morning! I need to replace this jalopy.

I use it when talking to my friend who's daughter has the heart condition but more of a "I can't imagine what you are feeling but I'm here for you whatever you need" Kind of scenario. I don't want her to think I'm dismissing her feelings because I have literally nothing to say that can be good enough for what she is experiencing. KWIM?

slenle when a four yo says it, it’s adorable. I’m talking grown ups who ‘literally have steam coming out of their ears’... ehm no you don’t 😉.

I would say, 'I'm sorry you're going through this, let me know how I can help'.
I really noticed it when my Dad was sick and when he passed. It has bothered me ever since and I'm now careful with my words.

melaniesue, Millie's is one of my favorites. She covered the whole canvas, and while it isn't so much "splatter", I think it is so pretty!

Not quite the same, but I can't stand the ds, dd, dh, ect. Like, of course your kid is dear to you. And do you have to specify your H is dear to you so people know your marriage isn't on the rocks or something? I just don't get it. I never read it as “dear son” or whatever. I just read it as son. Someone a long time ago made it common so that’s why I use it because people know what it means. Obviously with you guys I say H or S.

I always took it as, "I won't pretend to know what you're going through since I've never been there" type of thing. I think for me it stems from the people who always assume they know how I'm feeling in a hard situation even though they have no clue. My sister is famous for this.

As an example: I really couldn’t imagine how hard it would be to have my child pass away. But actually, thinking about It, I don’t think I’ve ever used that phrase to someone.

I’ve seen jalopy in books but I’ve never heard someone use it irl.
I use “i can’t imagine” and I don’t mean it to diminish the person’s feelings. I agree w others that it feels more comfortable to say than “I know how you feel.” Unless you’ve had the exact same situation, then no, you prolly don’t know how I feel.

nam2013, I think “actually” is meeting a similar fate of “literally.” Constantly misused.

The espresso/expresso one kills me. There was a sign on the Starbucks drive-through this weekend that their second "expresso" bar was out of service. If you work there, you have to be able to spell it correctly.

I've looked at it as sort of a filler/replacement for "what you're going through must be terrible." (Which might be a better thing to say)

I hate the thumbs up emoji. My coworker uses it all the time and I just want to tell her to just not respond over using the damn thumbs up. I always view it as a sarcastic response. Like a "sure, Jan" type of thing.

Your Christmas tree pictures are making me want ours up! We get real though and ours was so dead last year that we had to take it down a week or so before Christmas because we were sure it'd start a fire. I think we just got a bad tree, but we're holding off for now!
