Rep Goodlatte's reasoning on opposing the Nadler amendment is maddening. It's like arguing that residents of a county in Texas whose speed limit is 85 mph should be able to go to New York, where the limit is 65, and drive 85.

Says the college-educated woman with a college-educated daughter who would never dream of not doing everything she could to make sure her grandchildren go to college as well. 🙄 10 years ago I got a job I was completely unqualified for on the premise that I had a masters degree from a reputable university. Because education carries its own value. And I know lots and lots of people working at places where they can't break into higher tiers of leadership because while they may have ample experience and proven intelligence and ability, a college degree is a prerequisite to move to the next level. Virtually everyone I know in retail careers for starters. This shit pisses me off. an odd sentiment from an employee of the federal government, who recently adjusted the GS schedule to cap employee salaries based on possession of a Masters Degree.....

I foresee a rise in unemployment. This shouldn't have made me laugh, but it did. I wonder if 45 will tweet those numbers or if that will be President Obama's fault, too.

I had some hope this tax bill wouldn't be passed but of course the rich only care about themselves. So many people are going to be screwed by this. It's going to take a long time to recover from this administration.

Is it just me, or does Trump’s behavior seem increasingly bizarre? His behaviors this week feel like more than just campaigning to the deplorables. 😕

Those "people" who are die hard "Trump is Great" have a big god damn mouth, not that there are a lot of them, its just that they are loud.

Orrin Hatch is on the floor of the Senate stating that Dems are pushing us closer to socialism. They want big government.
The government wouldn't have to be so big if companies that help regulate industries and other businesses weren't so corrupt and couldn't be trusted to do their god damn job correctly. Now the FCC and FTC can't be trusted to police ISPs from becoming Media Companies. They are only perpetuating the downfall of the United States by dragging us back to 1960s lifestyle where women are silenced, minorities are oppressed, rich whites run the country, and everything is just "fine".
Fuck that, I want out. I have enough of these old, white, privilege, republican men dictating my life. Based on what they are doing now and what the baby boomers have done to this country at this point any step forward is better than that. At least a democratic government made HUGE steps forward in 2017 not 1967.

Those buck toothed, hill people who are die hard "Trump is Great" have a big god damn mouth, not that there are a lot of them, its just that they are loud. Fucking A, dude, talking about people like this is not okay. Ok I edited it. I was looking for the correct wording.
After composing myself, this all happened just as I said it would. People from Rural farm towns and hills, hollars, mining towns, and out of business dirty business areas came out of their homes and voted for the first time in decades for a man that promised them to bring back Coal jobs like they were in the 20s. Bring back factories like they were in the 40s and 50s. Bring back America first because people have owned land in this country for over 100 years and have forgotten that their families started as immigrants and their privilege to be born into this country thinks they should be the only ones who live here. They back him because EVERY SINGLE THING HE SAYS IS A DOG WHISTLE. And like a pack of hounds they follow him into the fire, damn the consequences. Pocohontas was a DOG WHISTLE. Tweets about Islamic Terror was a dog whistle. Shoot Christmas is a Dog Whistle. How dare we talk about anything other than Christianity around this time of year. And all this is a distraction that is failing to stop this country from outing the sexual abusers that have wound themselves into the fabric of our lives and American life. Why?
Because Dems are becoming Woke. Many people are no longer just Dems, they are Independents, Indivisibles, Woman's Marchests, Black Lives Matter Advocates, Freedom fighters, Alt Right, ANTIFA. It is no longer Republicans vs Democrats. We are now smaller factions of the spectrum. We need to splinter and have a French style election with all these parties. We have gone to hell in a hand basket. He can continue his nonsense because his supporters are LOUDER and not MORE. They yell when they don't agree and demand for proof and deny it as "fake news" when it is proven to be true or false. Denial is the biggest river in the USA these days. I admit there are people near me I get into arguments with that support Trump and they want evidence. I can admit I never have the evidence which silences me but if I had it would do nothing to sway them. What will is to see the shit show the tax bill and Trump administration makes their lives. He has backstabbed every single person who has voted for him. Every day I am interested to see where the line is.
Insulting a Gold Star Family didn't do it. Talking about abusing women didn't do it. Insulting Native Americans to their face didn't do it. Posting Anti-Islamic videos didn't do it. Support White Supremacy didn't do it. What is left? What is actually left?

I understand your frustration and share much of it, but when you choose to use words like that — doesn't matter if you changed them, because I quoted them — you only harm your own credibility. It's gross and it's about more than "manners." It's about common human fucking decency. So you mean "be the bigger person"? I am finding that harder and harder to do with these people. Decent people promote equality and understanding and speak out when one of their own has been indecent. They are not doing so.
On a lighter note, listening to NPR on the way to work today made me think that in terms of Game Of Throwns, for us, Winter Has Come. And there is no large army here to save us yet. Unless you count the number of phone calls and emails to elected officials as an army. Yet it has not stopped the white walkers from getting rid of regulations to preserve our planet, freedoms, liberties, and privacies. LOL

There were A LOT of educated white middle class women who voted for 45, as well as a lot of older white men. (I work with them). So to minimize those that support him as uneducated or 'hill people' (bleh) is a falsehood we should not be spreading.

Many people from many different backgrounds voted for him. I can personally tell you of people of every age who did, none of whom are from small towns or who believe coal is going to come back. Trump targeted every group by telling them exactly what they wanted to hear. One of the most difficult things for me, personally, to comprehend was how people missed that this is what he was doing.
Aside from comments on a group's looks damaging credibility, choosing to ignore the bigger picture strongly limits conversations dissecting how Trump got elected and how we can talk to each group and hopefully sway their opinion for future elections. Rural America can't elect the President on their own, but you also can't totally discount and ignore rural America and hope to win either.

All the Trump voters I know are white, educated, upper middle class suburbanites. Do not think for a moment that they were misled or hanging on to hope that coal would make a comeback. They are Republicans who will always vote R because they believe it is better for their own pocketbooks, they genuinely don't care what happens to most outside of their own insular world, and they certainly don't believe they should pay for any of it. Trump's crazy base may be louder, but this is the true and plentiful Republican population who will continue to carry the party forward.

JukEboX , if you can't see why it's wrong to demean a person's appearance and/or where they're from, for no other reason than to further a stereotype, to make yourself feel better, I don't have anything else to say. I completely understand what you mean and you are correct I should not be doing that. I do get carried away with this before I can catch myself on this. I am just beside myself with all this on how they can just blindly follow such a snake oil salesman.

Based on how loud the Trump base is it just seems that no matter how high we have been going, the louder they have been getting and truthful, coherent information is just being drowned out by noise and we can't move forward or stabilize.
