Yup!
We are definitely not doing Elf on the Shelf. I don't even get it--is Santa not enough anymore? I vividly remember my uncle picking up the telephone and threatening to call Santa to tell him I should be on the naughty list, and that shit scarred me.
If you have the time/energy to make little Leprechaun footprints for St. Patrick's Day and Easter Bunny chocolate poos, then by all means! But I am not that mom. You get a bowl of lucky charms, an easter basket & Santa Claus. That's enough for us.

Lol. We definitely won’t be making things “more” magical. I can definitely get elaborate with things, especially baked goods/ food, but for me, the “magic” of holidays is making things together. So maybe we would make some green food together— definitely not giving credit to the leprechauns! And I’m firmly in the elf on the shelf being creepy camp. I’m still undecided about whether we’ll do Santa.

We’ll do Santa and an Easter Basket, kids wear green on St. Patrick’s Day and pass out Valentines on V Day, that’s about it. I did buy a boy and girl elf on the shelf because it was super cheap on Amazon. I do not plan on doing the elaborate elf on the shelf stuff though, just more of a holiday toy/decoration the kids can play with. ETA- we’re not religious, so the holidays don’t have any religious meaning to us. H and I both grew up Catholic so our families feel the holidays have more meaning than we do.

I guess I am in the non magical camp - although i have been heard saying this week "can't you feel the excitement in the air? feel the holidays? they are here!" (yes, i am a nerd.)
St. Patty's day - oh how i miss going out and getting shit faced. oh wait, that's not what this day is about??? ok ok, i will put my kids in green shirts - they are part Irish. I leave it to daycare to do all that other crap.
Christmas - no elf on the shelf. i have enough shit to remember. and we do believe in Santa, so there is that list of his he keeps. I do refer to it ALL.YEAR.LONG. We do leave cookies and milk out and carrots for the reindeer. All of which will be partially eaten/drank. I also, have sleigh bells out on the front door for Christmas Eve. We ring them gently right before we go to bed. The reason being, my parents did it for us as kids and my sisters and i always thought we heard Santa's sleigh because of it - hence making it a bit more magical for us as kids. I will continue this tradition. Also, this is a religious holiday for us and we try not to lose sight of that.
Easter - we do egg hunts with the community, celebrate Christ, and hide easter eggs and baskets. But this is a religious holiday for us mostly.
We don't really go above and beyond. If "we" wanted too, let's me honest, it wouldn't be we, it'd be me. And I just don't have the time too.

Saw this on a mom's group post today. It seemed relevant.

I do think it is a magical time of year and hope my kids feel that way too! People are nicer to each other (sometimes) and we get to spend more time with family. That said, I'm not going to buy in on the Pinterest world of the holidays. We will watch movies, make cookies, buy and wrap gifts and all the "usual" stuff!

I am all about the magic. I have a huge book about Santa that I've had since I was a child that goes into the different types of elves and cookie recipes etc. I swear my mom still believes in the waster bunny so we've always done colored eggs and big hunts. But just small normal baskets. We are not religious so Christmas and Easter are celebrated secularly for us. I like celebrating but I do think there's a level of pressure for it to be "bigger, better, more magical" when I loved the magic of it when I was a kid. Everytime I see an "over the top" idea though I think I might post it for giggles. Side note: if this is your thing and you love the Pinterest stuff then you rock on and do it. Just not for me.

Ooh- we do milk, cookies and carrots too, all partially eaten in the morning. We have a special milk and cookies set that we use (DD1 took the one I bought for her when she was 1, but Worm was gifted one for her 1st Christmas).
