My best friend growing up who is also my pastors daughter, is getting married Friday. They have a huge social circle and a small budget. They are more concerned about being able to accommodate every one than everything being super fancy. So instead of spending thousands on photos, they asked my mom and I to do it. Now we have professional grade cameras and good editing software but are by no means professional photographers. She is a totally laid back easy going bride and it is kind of driving me nuts! I need to compile a list of pictures I'm sure we get. And asked her if she had any specific shots in mind. She replied "just pictures throughout the day" So not helpful!
So tell/show me shots you loved or wish you would have gotten. I know we need to get all the basics with family and dances and stuff but one thing I regret about my wedding pictures is that none of DH and I are really artistic or neat looking. Just plain jane pictures.
They also have two boys, 5 and 2 so any shots with kids are a bonus.

I wish I had more candids from my wedding. I hate the "staged" pictures, which we have a billion of. And for some reason my photographer was obsessed with taking pictures of the food. I mean, the food was awesome, and we had enough to feed an army, but why would I want tons of pictures of that?
I'd ask if there are any specific people she wanted to make sure she got photographed with, and try to capture that.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

From experience:
-We had a professional photographer, that knew my h side of the family, so he took pics of my SIL’s, but not my sister, Dh grandpa, not my grandparents... so make sure to get a list who has to be photographed.
- the details are the things you forget about a wedding, get a closeup if the flowers, the dress (or together) shoes, table setting, menu etc, special jewellery, cuff links, boutonnières etc.
Plus just shoot a 1000 pics, especially during the ceremony, good luck!

Does she have an idea of where they are doing pictures? Is there a location that is neat? Brick building, downtown buildings, valley?

They are getting married in her dads church which is new. But the original building/traditional church building is on site. And it's in an old part of town so there are some cool things around. I'll drive around tomorrow on my lunch and scout them out.

jewels I will definitely do candids. And yes about his family. I don't know anyone in his family so I'll have her point them out to me. Thanks for that.

If you already know a photographer in town, check out their blogs/FB for locations as well. It'll cut down some work for you.

Definitely candids. Those were my favorite. I really wish I had a picture of me with just my 3 sisters. Other then that, what vino said... somewhere with a cool background. Or somewhere with significance, my sister and her H had pictures taken at their favorite bar.
