A little over 32 weeks here. Feeling pretty sore/tired. I did get a support belt to help my pelvic varicose vein and some support stockings to help with my fatigue from standing up a lot of the day at work. Those helps some for sure! E is getting better at sleeping all night in his bed but since he naps at day care, I don't get to bed until usually 10:30 on weeknights...considering I have to leave the house by 7am at the latest to get to work on time, I am not getting enough sleep. But I'm making do. We're busy. I'm getting a ton of good baby (girl) stuff from friends as hand-me-downs though so I feel good about what we have v. what we need. We do need to get the new baby room painted and set up the new crib. We got one from a friend since I absolutely hated the one we used for E. It was also one we borrowed but it was just too tall for short little me. Everything has calmed down as far as complications with this pregnancy goes (the last visit to MFM on 12/8 cleared up an issue with the baby's kidney we weren't sure about). But now I'll start getting NSTs at my local office regularly. I feel like I want to start seeing the midwives in this last portion of pregnancy b/c they tend to not over-do testing and they won't bring up the idea of inducing me early like the OBs will. Besides my age (38), there is no reason to do that unless something comes up.

easternshoregirl, when you say induce early, do you mean before 40 weeks? My OB’s office says baby needs to be born by 40 weeks because I’m AMA. I’m not happy about it (it’s not an ACOG thing) but that’s the policy.

I’m 26 weeks tomorrow. I’m bigger than last time. I have way more pressure this time too and it seems early for that. I’m otherwise okay. Thinking about names and having a hard time.

shellyr I found that names were difficult the second time around because I had already used my favorites. It took a while to settle on a name.

shellyr I found that names were difficult the second time around because I had already used my favorites. It took a while to settle on a name. Same here. This baby is still nameless. Also ugh to induction due to age. Honestly that is part of the reason I i went to a midwife practice this time (affiliated with an ob group). I didn't want to have to fight the induction happy issue since I am 40. I don't think I'm burying my head in the sand. I have no problem getting an NST if there is a concern but I don't want to be induced before 41 weeks unless there is a medical concern. ETA: my ob last pregnancy was fine with that but I moved and didn't know the Obs well here.

lol- Jack didn’t have a middle name (technically we changed it) until he was 2 or 3 days old.

That seems like such an outdated thought from your OB shellyr. My practice told me there really isn't much they will do different because I'm AMA, just recommended prenatal testing that we were planning on anyway. Good luck with the name, you still have time.

Well, although I live in a city, the healthcare here is much different than Boston (and not in a good way). I think this is a cover your arse practice. I ask every time I go in and get the same answer from Every OB. They are firm on it. Apparently it is standard where I live.

At my practice, many of the OBs like the idea of inducing at 39 weeks for AMA. The midwives don't see it as necessary. According to the midwife I spoke to most recently, there are new guidelines for AMA but no one really agrees on what is the best! There was no mention of it when I was pregnant with E and I went to almost 41 weeks with him. There was also no NSTs in the third tri or extra growth scans...(at my practice)

Last time, I went to 41+1 before I delivered, and there wasn't any talk of induction until I actually hit 40 weeks (I was 36 at the time). I did have weekly NSTs though (that's how I discovered I was about to go into labor!). I was with a midwife practice, and really glad of it because I only found out afterwards that the OB on call during my delivery was pushing for a c-section because I was taking too long and my BP spiked ONCE (when I first got there and was in major pain). I was progressing steadily, just very slowly. My midwife talked them out of it, thank god, and everything was fine. I'm with a different midwife practice this time, and I'm not sure what their policies are. I guess I will find out soon (next appt is Tuesday). I really want to avoid induction if possible and i want to be allowed to go to at least 40 weeks before they start trying to (not just for delivery purposes, but I really need my paid family leave and I can't get it if I go early). I'm 38 this time, and this pregnancy has been very tough physically for me, so we'll see.

I forgot that so many of us are AMA. Thanks for sharing your OB experiences. Unless I go to the county hospital, having a midwife is not an option for me where I live. Maybe this baby will pick its own birthday before 40 weeks
