We are going to my brothers with my entire family. It's the first time everyone but my parents and my brother will meet j. I'm nervous because it's a 2.5 hour drive and im.afraid we are going to be stressed. Dh also wants to stop at his bff house because he lives in the same town as my brother . So I think it's going to be an exhausting day of driving and seeing everyone, etc.
I'm making pumpkin and blueberry pies to take. I know my brother is smoking a turkey and his wife is making mac n cheese and my mom is making stuffing and sil mom is making gravy. Im.sure there will be roasted Brussels sprouts and rolls too.

We're going to my cousin's house with my dad's side of the family. This will be the first time all of them will be meeting M so that should be fun. It's going to be a weird Thanksgiving because a lot of people aren't coming this year, so it will be a lot smaller than usual. I assume there will still be plenty of food though. We normally have the usual stuff: turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole,... but we're Italian so there's always homemade ravioli and meatballs too. Plus of course a bunch of desserts: pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and I'm making chocolate chip cookies because that's what was requested. We're also getting together with my mom's side of the family on Saturday but we see them all the time cuz they live nearby so they've all met M and it will be a more casual gathering. Not sure what's on the menu for that one yet.

We’re just staying home and it’ll be the three of us. I’m pretty sad about not being able to travel to family this year but keeping it in check bc I don’t want DH to feel worse about it- basically he’s off for tgiving but he’s “on call” so if someone calls in sick to work at the hospital, he has to go in for them, and can’t be farther than like an hour away. I’m bummed bc usually I have to work either Wednesday or Thursday night, or the weekend at work, so I was excited this year I’d be off and we wouldn’t have to worry about me working or traveling back early, etc. Plus his mom is doing tg in FL and it would have been SO nice to get out of the cold. And spend time with her. Blah.
So Ben hates turkey. So we’re doing a honey baked ham, homemade stuffing, roasted sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and I’m getting myself some sliced turkey from Whole Foods bc I HAVE to have turkey!! And idk what else. I want mashed potatoes but DH is ambivalent about them. I want some sort of veggies and salad. But if he gets called into work on TG, I’m just going to have stove top stuffing (SO GOOD!! But he hates it 😒) and boxed mashed potatoes and probably cry. 👍🏼
I know it’ll be nice to have time just us, but honestly I’m tired of not being near family and friends. It’s always just me and N or us and DH on days he doesn’t work. So it doesn’t seem like a special holiday into just do us... 😕
*my fam is coming for Xmas so that’s why they didn’t come out for tg

addymac I'm sorry you can't get to the family for thanksgiving. Dh would be fine with it being just the 3 of us but I need to be around family so we go to my parents or brothers for the holidays . One year I was sick on thanksgiving so it was just he and I and we had sheets for dinner because I was sick. It was awful and I cried. At least you are making a yummy dinner and will have leftovers . Thanksgiving leftovers are the best.

addymac, I'm sorry you can't be with family for Thanksgiving. That is hard. I'm glad you're making a yummy meal though. Hopefully yh doesn't get called in and you all can just have a nice night together.

Well originally we were going to host my parents and H’s dad & siblings, but for various reasons that all fell through and now it’ll just be the 4 of us. Part of me is glad because it gives us more time to work on the house to prep hosting Christmas (painting mainly), but I also want the big traditional dinner and I can’t really justify making it for just H and I. We may just do a scaled back version. Who knows.

So even though we’re finally closer to family, we won’t be able to have thanksgiving dinner with them. MH works that day and his cousin is getting married the next day. So all of the family are doing a dinner at the hotel. It’ll be like 40 people! The hotel is about 90 mins away from us and i decided to skip it because I’m nervous to have A be up passed his bedtime 2 nights in a row. I’d rather him be good for the wedding. It doesn’t start until 6 and I start the bedtime routine at 6:30. It’ll be interesting to see how he does.
Anyways, I’m not going to make anything this year. But one of my faves is to make stuffing in acorn squash bowls. Just hollow out the squash, put the stuffing inside. Sprinkle a little brown sugar on top and bake. It’s really yummy.

jexxa, I think you should just do a scaled back version but still have the classics so it still feels like Thanksgiving.

My brother and SIL are hosting this year. We usually do Thanksgiving, but they want to deep fry a turkey. They live a mile away, so Thanksgiving should be fairly relaxing for me. I make Mac & cheese. Usually, with hot cheeses, but it depends on who is going to eat it. I might just do sharp cheddar and pepper jack. I also might do cookies for my SIL. She once told me they were her favorite cookies that I made: www.thecomfortofcooking.com/2011/10/soft-apple-cinnamon-snickerdoodles.html

I'm not technically hosting, but I will be doing the bulk of the work. My grandmother has been doing thanksgiving and every other holiday since day one. However, since having lung cancer 2 years ago and rAdiation she has been slowly losing her touch. Plus a few weeks ago she was diagnosed with denentia. It's been rough and although she still has her mind, you can see a difference.
So I thought that I would head up to jersey on Monday, do her shopping and help her out with cooking all the food. I have all her recipes and use to love to cook with her! She has always cooked a feast and is not planning on doing the minimum. Luckily, they live right next door to my parents, so my mom will watch the kiddos. Plus my DH will only have hour ride to work from their house, so that's not too bad.
Anyway the menu-
28lbs turkey Stuffing Sweet potato mash Candid yams Broccoli and cauliflower Cranberry Spinach and cream cheese mash potatoes Honey glazed carrots Biscuits Green beans and garlic Hot pepper spread and Italian bread (grandfather always has to add a little Italian to everything) Gravy Creamed corn
I know I'm missing something..
Dessert- Pecan pie Apple pie Ricotta cheese cake Plain cheese cake Pumpkin pie Cranberry cookies Italian pastries
She makes this much food even when it's not the whole family.

It seems like a lot of you are at home for various reasons. I am sorry to here about sick relatives and on call shifts, the holidays can be hard!
We are going to my in-laws since I got home to agree not to go home for Xmas. I feel a little bad, but he and his Dad do not mix well, and we will be traveling a lot over the next two months. This is the first year I am not baking anything but I am just too tired. I was at a conference last week and have another after Thanksgiving...

H really wanted to do a traditional meal even if it’s just us so we are. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce, steamed veggies, and apple pie. The only thing we have to make is the turkey & gravy, everything else is premade or from a box - that was our compromise. If we were actually hosting everyone I’d make stuff from scratch.

We alternate between families every year so this is with my family which is small and nice. His family is huge lol. We do stop by there for dessert after the meal with mine.
We will have the typical staples: turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, mashed spuds, stuffing, cranberry, Brussels, broccoli. MH’s grandfather who passed away a year ago used to make delicious homemade peasant style bread that MH made last year so he is planning on that again for thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ll bake oatmeal chocolate chip cookies which are always a hit.
