US Thanksgiving is next week! Come talk about everything Thanksgiving
What are some things that always make you feel thankful? Do you have Thanksgiving traditions? What are you bringing to the table? What are you most looking forward to eating? Any humorous stories to share?

I'm thankful for my kids, especially that my oldest is now big enough to start understanding things. We made a "thankful garland" today and it was so cute.
DH calls thanksgiving my superbowl. I go all out, even though we don't often have lots of people over. Spreadsheet and everything. I think I'm most looking forward to stuffing this year, I finally got my recipe nailed down.

I have three things that always spur me say a quick prayer of thanks for some reason, even though they're not the things I'm MOST thankful for: hot water in the shower the stars clean sheets on a made up bed My favorite thanksgiving food is made-from-scratch mashed potatoes, but no one in my family does it any more. Maybe I should try to make it this year, but I'm pretty sure I might die from peeling and chopping so many potatoes. And if I asked for help from my sisters they'd probably be like LOL, no, but

I am a little sad this year. My parents flew out to us the last 2 years and my mom and I cooked the same stuff that her mom and grandma used to cook, the same meal I grew up eating every year. And none of us eat meat so there’s no one we have to get a turkey for. Pretty perfect. They’re not coming this year and I still can’t really cook so a friend invited us to their house. It will be nice but I just feel meh about the whole thing.
But I will be spending 3 weeks with family again in December, after just doing the same thing in October, so I’m super thankful I get to see family as much as I do, given how far away they are.

I am so thankful to be alive and healthy. I lost a coworker and H‘s grandmother this week, and especially going into the holidays, it makes me so grateful for every day that I can spend with my son and my family. I am also so thankful to be carrying another little baby that will complete our family.
This year, we are spending the actual day with H’s family, and then Friday through Sunday will be different people in my extended family. The holidays get harder as my sisters and I get older, because everyone’s spread out doing their own thing, and I am nostalgic for the days when we would all be at my parents’ house for the long weekend.
Mashed potatoes and gravy are probably my favorite part of Thanksgiving, but the best is the plate of turkey, potatoes, stuffing and corn all covered in gravy. I told MIL that we should make extra servings of everything because I will eat it for a week afterwards. I also love apple pie and lemon meringue pie.

I'm thankful that my husband is very supportive of my career, that I have a curious and energetic toddler, and that we're adding to our family.
We always used to host a great Friendsgiving, and my favorite thing to make was "dressing balls" - which are essentially dressing rolled into balls and cooked in a creamy sauce in the slow cooker. It's a low country family recipe - amazing. Anyway, we moved last year and now we don't have any friends to host. So this year we're taking a vacation over Thanksgiving, going up into the mountains. I'm excited to try something new but a little sad not to have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We also don't have reservations, so I'm a little afraid we won't be able to get any dinner.

We stay home/host every year. Everyone but my brother (military) is within 20 minutes of us, so we tell our families that dinner is at 3 & our door is open. This year, it’s just the 4.5 of us, plus my mom, grandma, sister & sister’s boyfriend. I’m still making enough for an army. I don’t plan on cooking again until Monday. For traditions, we eat dinner, do a quick clean up and then move whatever appetizers are leftover into the living room and watch a movie. This year, we're thinking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Mary Poppins, but nothing is set in stone yet.

I have my list (below) of the meal, plus a check list to do starting this Saturday with what needs prepped/made and in what order. I also keep my recipes in a checklist app on my iPad so that i can go down it and switch between them as needed as well. I've gotten even worse since we installed the double oven last spring. I have three ovens now. It's really freaking awesome.

I always make two yeast breads from scratch and cook everything in one oven, so if I didn't have a minute by minute spreadsheet it wouldn't get done! I do need to buckle down and check my week before checklist and revise my spreadsheet since I changed the menu a bit this year.

Also, day after thanksgiving - throw that leftover stuffing in the waffle maker, get it nice and crispy, top with poached eggs and gravy. You're welcome in advance.

Saturday, I always press the leftover stuffing into a pie dish, bake for a few minutes to crisp/toast, then fill with leftover turkey, gravy & veggies and top with mashed potatoes and then bake to reheat everything.

This is the first year we get to do Thanksgiving just us. I've ALWAYS wanted to just have one holiday that was just my immediate family.
We usually do the Turkey Trot 5k every year, so we are doing that again. Then we are eating turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese (mostly for DS), green bean casserole, corn casserole, rolls, and stuffing.
I'm thankful for such a hard working husband, and a healthy family.

It's my favorite part of the weekend. My dad makes them every year and I load it down with cheddar cheese, onions, peppers, and leftover turkey. So yummy!!

We already did our Thanksgiving last month, but I'll give ya'll a rundown of what we had.
Mustard glazed ham (the ham was huge and only $7 so we went for that instead of a turkey), mashed sweet potatoes, crispy brussel sprouts with apple and bacon, stuffing, and carrots. I had 2 plates lol. We watched Beauty and the Beast while we ate =)
We always end up by ourselves for Thanksgiving because I generally work so traipsing up to my in laws is not really possible, so we kind of just make a feast and hang out. Maybe next year will be different since I'll be off on mat leave.

Oh! Whole foods just dropped prices on their turkeys and if you're an amazon prime member you can get a coupon for an extra 20% off of the WF turkey.

tincupchalice That is a good tip! We're by ourselves this Thanksgiving. Normally we travel to family but I have to work. I am going to make turkey but smaller versions of our favorite sides. It may feel a little different because there are some sides we'll skip because we aren't huge fans (stuffing). I'm actually looking forward to being able to decorate for Christmas over the weekend. Because we normally travel, it feels more rushed because we are unpacking and catching up from being gone. Now I get to spread out, take my time, and enjoy getting everything out with the boys. I'm also looking forward to trying out some fun desserts. I always have to make pumpkin pie and it is boring.

All the stuffing as breakfast talk is making me rethink my no-stuffing choice for this year.

I'm thankful for my family and my in-laws. There have been a few hard losses the last couple years that really make me pay so much more attention to everyone. Also for my awesome husband and our strong marriage. Our friends are having a really hard time right now and it's really hitting home for both of us. Of course my son and 2.0.
Wednesday we host Cousin Thanksgiving which is all my cousins on this coast. We're having soup (chicken noodle and butternut squash, I think) and sandwiches. Thursday we're going to my ILs and I'm taking mac & cheese and an apple pie. Saturday we're hosting Friendsgiving and I'm making turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce.
Cousin Thanksgiving is a tradition we love. It's the only time we ever get together without the 'adults.' Then I go Black Friday shopping with my mom, sister, and SIL. We wear matching shirts and everything. Normally we decorate on that weekend but I'm going to try to convince H to do it this weekend 😁😁 ETA- I always make apple pie on Tgiving morning then we eat french toast with the extra pie goo on top.

We already had Thanksgiving, but...
What are some things that always make you feel thankful? Thankful for my family and to be pregnant. I miss big Thanksgivings at my grandmas, but I'm glad to at last have my mom here with us.
What are you bringing to the table? I made the ham, turkey breast, mashed potatoes, brown butter carrots, and deviled eggs
What are you most looking forward to eating? Bacon Wrapped Greenbeans. I use to get into fights trying to eat them all before my sisters could get any when we were little.
Any humorous stories to share? DS stuffed a plate of turkey and cheeks and declared it time for Christmas.

Thanksgiving is a hot mess this year. By default (not because we want to) we were going to host. But I have been SOOOOO extremely exhausted. And even though everyone brings everything, I really don't want to clean up before or after. So my parents offered to host and include DH family (my MIL, BIL&SIL and their two kids, and my other BIL&SIL). Which is more than generous. Anyway, my one brother in law/sister in law didn't feel comfortable because HER parents weren't invited. So then they were thinking well they will just have thanksgiving at THEIR house with her parents, and we will go to my parents. But my MIL would be in the middle.
My parents didn't really want to invite SIL parents/family because they are VERY inconsiderate people. My mom particularly is VERY old fashioned about manners, etc. And they are completely unreliable. They are 2 to three hours late for EVERYTHING. Many times they flat out cancel the day of. (Her parents did a no show at our BIL's wedding this summer) So she could see them saying they were coming, planning for 4 extra and no one showing.
Finally they agreed to have them so we will see what will happen. i seriously want to skip Thanksgiving. Except for all the delicious food.
We will have a huge Hanukkah party here in a few weeks, so that is where will put our time and effort too.

I know it’s silly but I love watching the dog show after the Macy’s parade. Honestly I like it more than the parade.
My MIL always gets Thanksgiving so we go wherever she goes. This year it’s at my SIL’s which is always a good time.
