Boring question but I'm curious ...
I have noticed for some time now that Amelia really struggles with putting single fingers up. So like a thumbs up, or using her pointer finger to swipe a screen, or holding up number amounts with her fingers.
I have tons of fine motor activities available for her and I feel like they should be helping. There are plenty of things she CAN do.. she zips her own coat, puts on velcro shoes, pinches items, holds writing utensils the correct way... But when singling out just one or two fingers, she struggles.
I don't know if I'm just more accustomed to looking for this because I taught this age and I know what skills we should be working towards, but I was just wondering how your LO's (and older sibs too) are faring in this matter.

J can't really put up numbers with his fingers. He can point to something and swipe, can't hold them up. He cannot zip his jacket at all. I guess I could work on that with him. Or he can do it and I just don't ever let him (I've noticed that he learns stuff from daycare that I don't even know he can do...oops). He also doesn't hold writing utensils very well. TBH, we don't really work on this stuff with him at home. We don't have much time during the week and on the weekends, we are usually running around or just relaxing not doing anything. Now I feel like I need to start working on these things with him!

Pizzaslut .. no no no! Please don't stress! J is doing all of that stuff at daycare and that's great!! Since A is home with me all day, I have to put forth the effort to expose her to all of this stuff, that's all

M has issues holding single fingers up as well. He tries to mimic us, so I'm happy with that. He can sometimes zip things, generally his issue is patience when he struggled with something. Pizzaslut I have the same thing when he can do things that I don't know he can do. Like at a doctor when he just started naming shapes. I had not worked in those with him 🤷 I just figure my kid is smart despite me 😂

Finger isolation is a more advanced skill that typically comes later. Based on what she can do, it sounds like her fine motor skills are actually pretty advanced. No way could my kid zip a coat (unless I started it for her and she just had to pull) and I'm sure she doesn't have a proper tripod grip yet on a crayon.

A can isolate a finger if she wants to, she will ping at stuff no problem, but when she tries to mimic us with a single finger or 2, she’s unable to. As for zipping, she can’t start a zipper on a jacket, but can zip up her footed pajamas. She’s not very coordinated with eating, but getting better. She kind of started late in eating because she had no interest in food. I feel overall she’s on par with the other kids her age, but I do worry about certain things at times since she’s home with me and not in school.

DS1 can hold up 1 or 2 fingers. He can use his utensils, help zip a coat, (if I start it), swipe a screen, and Velcro his own shoes. I remember it taking DD quite a while before she could isolate fingers. Maybe around 3. It sounds like A is doing awesome and I wouldn't be worried at all
