I'm having rage because the jury isn't given all the info. WTF

fatpony, Not all evidence is admissible for a variety of reasons. Jurors are often given all the information, through testimony/questioning, but many documents themselves are not given to them, because jurors can use them for the wrong purpose. For instance, police reports are often considered hearsay - meaning the information in them cannot be taken as truth. But jurors might think that because it's in the police report, it is fact/truth, so the report itself is not given to the jury. The information in the report is often elicited through questioning the officer who wrote the report, and he might have the report in front of him to help him remember what he wrote on it. (This is just an example, and there are exceptions to the hearsay rule which a police report could arguably fall under)

I listened to all of the trial episodes of the podcast this morning, and I was a little bit concerned about the fact that there were so many conflicting stories about where the gun was in his pocket that there might be room for reasonable doubt.
I am heartened, though, to hear that the jurors are asking to review pieces of evidence and that it sounds like they're really trying to take all of the information into account.

No verdict today. Jury has gone home. I was on the edge of my seat all day waiting to hear a verdict. I guess the good news is that they weren't quick to say not guilty on all counts. I am just hoping that they're not completely divided and headed toward a hung jury.

Ugh. I just am a nervous wreck.
I don't know how they can act like conclusively he was stoned during the traffic stop. Like in his system does not mean high right then. I hope that the prosecution addressed that, but that point makes me nervous.
Also, I'm getting so annoyed that the national media has been covering the Cosby trial non stop and I've heard nothing about this one. I know the Cosby thing is important too but, c'mon. This is really important.

This is really important. Yes. And the part that I am hung up on is, even if he did have marijuana in his system, I still don't buy the defense's argument that it supposedly contributed to him influencing his own death. Like the prosecution pointed out, there was never a direction from Yanez to put his hands up or any other instruction like that that Castille didn't obey. The only thing that Yanez said was don't reach for your gun, and he didn't. I know they are trying to paint it as though he did reach for the gun, and Yanez saw it, but really if you examine what's been presented, the marijuana plays no role in this whatsoever. To me, it creates no reasonable doubt at all, and I hope the jury recognizes that.

I wonder if the jury can consider what a reasonable motorist would do in the hopes of concluding Yanez is lying about seeing the gun.
A reasonable motorist who is a good guy, gainfully employed, heading home with his girlfriend and a four year old in the car, would not reach for a firearm to point at a police officer. He just wouldn't be.
So to me, if you accept that as true, then you can conclude he was not reaching for his gun and Yanez is lying.
It's really here nor there but I need to shout that at yanez.

Totally agree. Not to mention that as they had said in the podcast, if you're planning on pulling a gun on an officer, you don't announce that you have one.

Taken from the 74s twitter account:
Quick hearing in #YanezTrial because the plastic in two evidence bags was ripped, including Philando Castile's shorts. Resealed.
This is interesting...

I wonder what that's about. The defense ballistics expert did buy a pair of the same shorts Philando was wearing. You'd think you'd have to open the evidence bag to get the brand and style.

Or maybe the jury opened them to look at the shorts and holster and then told the judge the bags were open and to reseal them?

I'm reading that a verdict is expected soon. I don't know why they think that, but a reporter says this:

I haven't seen anything else about a verdict today. Jurors are scheduled to deliberate until 4:30 today, so 2 more hours.

Doesn't the public usually know a verdict has been reached before it's read? Or is that just on TV?
