We have been doing a family movie night every Sunday where we have popcorn, all cuddle up, and watch a movie with the kids. With the holidays coming up I want to do a Christmas movie each Sunday night. What movies do you recommend for watching with kids? On my list is the Polar Express and then The grinch on Christmas Eve. But I’m pulling blanks on other options.
Also, in the spirit of the starting a new thread challenge, what holiday traditions are you looking forward to with your kids this year. Can be new ones, or ones already established.

A nightmare before christmas. It's a wonderful life. Miracle on 34th st.
Last year we went to sea world for christmas. I'd rather make a big breakfast, open gifts, play in the mess, lay around and then dress up and have a big dinner with family. Then card games after dessert.
Thanksgiving I run a 5k, make dinner and watch football.
I need more family traditions for the kids.

Good thread!
Elf! Best Christmas movie! Lol! DS1 always loved the original Grinch movie (cartoon).
In terms of traditions, we have lots of family get together, but no real 'traditions'. I really want to start something, but lack any level of creativity.

We started a new tradition last year of Christmas Eve and Christmas at our house with just our family of 4. It was pretty amazing.
We also do the following for the gifts for the boys
One thing you need One thing you read One thing you wear One thing you want
I usually through in something educational.

The Santa Clause is I believe the movie you are thinking of jedi. 45thparallel I'm going to pretend you mean the original grinch cartoon and not that terrible horrible Jim Carrey movie.

We do Christmas Eve with my family.
On Christmas morning we started making cinnamon rolls the year I was pregnant. That morning we spend at home together. We normally have my dad over as well. Then it's the in laws in the afternoon/evening.
I try to read books about each holiday to M. We're reading our Thanksgiving one often now, need to try to find more, and we'll read Christmas ones after Thanksgiving. I feel like the books help extend the season.

How has nobody mentioned Rudolph?!? Friday the Snowman?
Decorating Christmas cookies together, listening to Christmas tunes while decorating the tree together, adopting and shopping for an Angel Tree family...
We have Christmas Eve at home, and do Christmas movies, hot chocolate and yummy snacks all day, and Christmas PJs+book to open in the evening. Christmas morning my mom always made some type of sweet or pastry for breakfast, which I am continuing with my kids.

I love watching the old Christmas claymation movies, the cartoon grinch, and also the muppet Christmas carol. I also do love A Christmas Story, but that may not be age appropriate yet.

We go to my parents’ for Christmas, and I feel like we haven’t really kept a lot of traditions, maybe partly bc they aren’t in my childhood home. I’d really like to start some though.
Maybe I’ll do some Christmas Eve cookie baking with Poppy and my mom.
We’re going to have a tree for the first time in years in our apartment. (There just wasn’t room in our old apartment), so I’m excited about that.

It varies from year to year depending on when Christmas falls on the weekend, but this year we will go to my mom's for Christmas Eve. There will be a gift for the kids that includes pajamas, a letter from Santa and a movie or game to watch/play as a family. We will leave out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the Reindeer.
When we put up the tree, we usually have a Christmas movie or music playing. We each put on our own ornaments (everyone gets a new ornament every year).
Christmas morning we spend at home. Listen to Christmas music while opening gifts and then we go to H's aunt/uncle's house for late lunch/dinner.
Some of my favorite movies (not already listed above): Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer A Charlie Brown Christmas Rise of the Guardians National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation The Muppet Christmas Carol

coconutbacon yay a tree!! I think given your interest in cooking, starting a baking tradition could be such a fun thing to share with P and your Mom. Last year DD was about P’s age and she LOVED frosting and decorating (and eating) cookies. We did it a few times she loved it so much. Also a gift idea is a little apron for her to wear - DD loves hers so much.

yes I love opening the Christmas season with Elf!! I am going to steal your Sunday Christmas movie idea 45thparallel! DH watch Christmas with the Kranks every 23rd as we went to the theater to see it on the 23rd as our first date We also watch The Holiday every year (I love that one). I see a bujo spread with Christmas movies in my future... Our biggest tradition is that we open Christmas season in our house on DH's dad's birthday (Nov 22) every year. DH was really devastated when he passed away and this is a good way of feeling like including him and still having it be happy.

I usually bake a shit ton of things in a day while listening to christmas carols, make a bunch of containers and give them away as gifts. and eggnog lattes. and the santa clause parade. and midnight madness in our little town. I guess I have a lot of traditions lol.

Thanksgiving: the neighborhood plays bike polo. There are bbq oysters and everyone brings their favorite Bloody Mary. The kids play at the play ground and at noon everyone dispersed to their family dinners. - we always go for a walk after dinner but before dessert, and you have to wear a crazy hat.
Christmas- we make my great great grandmothers gooey buns, open gifts and leave the paper everywhere. The night before we always read the polar express. And I found some of my old Jan Brett books this year!

Oh I forgot! My personal Christmas tradition, which now MH does with me too, is to listen to David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries on Christmas Eve. It always leaves me in (laughing) tears.

I don't know why it drives me so crazy.
