I just briefly checked the website of the DME provider used by my insurance and I have a ton more options that I did with DD. Last time I had the Medela In-Style and it worked just fine, but having so many new options makes me want to try something new.
What brand(s) are you familiar with? Any brand/model you definitely recommend? What features are you looking for? Any specific model you hope to get?

Following because I can pretty much get any pump for free...
I had the Phillips Avent one last time and didn't like how much it hurt (even on the lowest setting) and I never seemed to get much milk when I pumped.

I only had the medela PISA and it did the trick just fine. I exclusively pumped for 8 mos and had no problems with it. My old trusty steed lol I'll probably get the same one this time around

So far my research is showing great things about the Spectra S2. Great reviews on Amazon and lots of recs for it from DD's BMB. Since I already have a PISA, I'm leaning toward trying the Spectra this time.
I also need to get my PISA out to make sure it still works and see if I need any new parts.

I used the PISA last time and it did the job. I should be able to get another one through my insurance so I'll be following this if there are any better pumps out there that are covered.

I'm just gunna sit here and be jealous of all you ladies whose insurance covers breast pumps. Because we have an international insurance plan, it doesn't have to follow ACA regulations...so no new pump happening here. Plus, with all the import taxes/fees, breast pumps where I live are like 3 times the price of what are back in the states. Not spending $600 on a new pump.
I will put in a plug for the Madela PISA. I used it for 2 years with DS and it is still going strong - I traveled a ton with it too, and it survived many trips in luggage over several oceans. I hope it has enough life in it for this baby! It really is a work horse. If I was back in the USA and could get another pump, I'd probably go with the PISA again, just because it has worked so well for me and been reliable.

I used the PISA and the Swing last time and was happy with them. Used PISA at home while on maternity leave. When I went back to work, I hated schlepping around the PISA every day, so I left the PISA at work and used the Swing at home. I brought the PISA home on weekends. The Swing was also nice for traveling or if I needed to pump while I was out. I have to see if I can get something new with my insurance this time.

I'm very fortunate that I received one pump through insurance and one through work with DD. I got the PISA and the Freestyle. The PISA worked great and I would absolutely get it again. The freestyle was very convenient for on-the-go. It's battery powered / rechargeable so I didn't need an outlet. I actually used it on a long flight and on top of a mountain while skiing! The freestyle doesn't have the power of the PISA but if you're looking for a backup - it worked perfectly.

I had the Medela PIS last time around and liked it. I didn't pump a ton though.

I have a Medela PISA that I used for over a year. It petered out (greatly reduced suction) just after the warranty expired and I limped along with it until we eliminated all BM during the day and only nursed in the morning and bedtime. I've heard such great things about the Spectra S2, so I'm leaning towards that one. I think I'll leave the electric pump at work and get a manual in case I need to pump at home. I got SO TIRED of schlepping the pump to and from work.

I'm curious about the Spectra S2, but will it work with Medela stuff? I feel like I have millions of Medela bottles and I don't want to have to buy different stuff/stuff to adapt to different bottles/storage.

There was a post about this in the Breastfeeding group at the old place. I also found this page, which links to an adapter you can buy on Amazon.

I saw on the tcf thread CoachTsWife posted that the spectra flanges screw into the Avent natural bottles (we used those with DD) so I might look more into that one

Most of my pumping is on the road so literally while I'm driving or in a restaurant/bar bathroom so the freestyle's size has always worked for me.

I had the PISA last time. Need to call insurance and see what they cover now. If they cover the Spectra I might get that.

I looked up the Spectra on Amazon and most insurances will send the S2 but this one has a rechargeable battery and the reviews are really good.

Also used the Medela PISA, paid for through insurance, for a year while nursing DS. I don't think I'll try getting another one though, she still gets the job done.

Ahhh I was just checking this last week with my insurance. The one provider I called already only carries the Ameda Purely Yours. I'm finding mixed reviews online, anyone have experience?
I have one other DME provider nearby that's in network so I still have to call them to see what they carry.
I also have to get an RX from my midwife for one, is that normal? Pumps weren't covered when I was pregnant with DS so this is my first go round here.

I had to get a RX for my last pregnancy and this one too.

thechickencoop no reviews of the pump. Have you checked Amazon? And I believe it's pretty standard to need a rx from your OB (or midwife) for insurance.

This time, I submitted an online request form with the DME and supposedly they handle everything, including obtaining the RX. Also, I've heard a lot of negative things about Ameda so I would try the other DME if you can.

Update: I tried my PISA last night and it still works, so I submitted the request for a Spectra last night. According to the DME's website, they handle everything and I should hear something within 10-12 days. It really seems too good to be true that I won't have to follow-up or make phone calls, so everyone stay tuned. I know you will all be on the edge of your seat waiting to hear!

I used a PISA last time and it was still working in July when I stopped pumping. I will not be eligible for another pump through insurance until April (every 3 years) so I will have to start pumping with my PISA and see what happens. If I am still pumping when I am eligible I may try to get a Spectra...time will tell.

I need to check my insurance. Last time they said I could get any I want from anywhere I want and they reimburse up to $150. I got the PISA for exactly $150 on amazon. I didn't need a rx for it.
If it's the same, I'd like to get the Freestyle for home so I can leave the PISA at work. My friend had that one and liked it, so I'm glad to see that others here liked it too.
