TTMA about baby monitors and power outages. I've had some anxiety about this in the middle of the night on occasion. The parent monitor is plugged in and has a rechargeable battery (Infant Optics DXR-8), so that will keep working, but won't the camera (and maybe sound) in the nursery stop working if the power goes out?
Last night, I fed DS at 2:30AM and went back to bed. At some point, the power cord for the parent monitor got unplugged from under the bed. Obviously the battery worked for awhile, but at some point it died. Luckily, I tend to wake up at the same time or before DS in the morning. He was awake when I checked on him, but I think he had just woken up because he wasn't upset or anything. I'm fairly certain he didn't wake up before that because he's usually good to go until morning with just 1 night feeding. Anyway, it just made me super paranoid because I don't think there's any way I would hear him down the hall if the monitor goes out. It makes me want to get a backup.

We have the same monitor and the parent monitor beeps loudly if the camera is disconnected. I think that would wake you up to at least alert you that the power was out. It also beeps if the battery on the parent monitor is low.

gimmesugar +1 what teachermomtobe said. But we are still room sharing so I hadn't really thought about it. I do need to figure out what we'll do once he grows out of the side sleeper, whether we'll just move him into his room at that time or if we'll bring his crib into our room.

teachermomtobe piratecat I thought about the same thing! I don't remember hearing a beep, and I'm a pretty light sleeper. I need to make sure DH didn't turn off that alarm or lower the volume.

Honestly, unless you are hard of hearing, they’ll escalate until you respond when they need you

I'm terrified of nursing with teeth. Bottom teeth are NBD. Baby's tongue covers the teeth while latched. Top teeth do alter the latch a bit and it's easier for baby to bite/graze you in a way that hurts but for the most part, there's no pain due to teeth. That is good to know. J has become super grabby/kneady while nursing and I have scratches all over my neck and arms. Must keep his tiny little claws trimmed.

cmb True, plus I hear phantom cries all the time. We're just down the hall and we have a loud fan going. I remind myself that when the power has gone out at night in the past, the total silence tends to wake me 🤦🏻♀️

A loves to grab at my chest and I always forget until it's too late.

I always try to get him to use the little bunny blanket thing instead but it's not as fun when the victim can't feel the pain I guess.

And not only does he scratch me up, he likes to tear his face up too. Those little nails are no joke and I have such a hard time keeping them all trimmed.

@starzia you are not the worst! I use baby nail scissors and have never cut J but the first time I used baby nail clippers I did.

@starzia piratecatI was too scared to use clippers or scissors. I ended up getting a battery powered nail file on Amazon. Now I feel more confident with the clippers, and sometimes I just try clipping one or two nails after a diaper change (until he gets squirmy). Then I try for another nail or 2 later until I get all of them clipped. Clipping toe nails is waaaaay harder for me. DS is so strong and kicks so much.

DS1 was so excited when I picked him up Friday. I haven’t seen him so excited in a long time. He had no idea I was back so it was a surprise. I took him to a model train show yesterday. He found the *one* Thomas set and was trying to persuade me to buy it. 😂 PDQ photo *poof*

cmb DS1 loves trains too (and we have that same backpack!). A model train show is a really good idea, I'm going to try to find one around here. Also, that is one cute kid!

Both my kids have their names! I’m mean and they’re for display only, but they have them. My MIL got them for them

I’m pretty fond of him We have a few that occur this time of year. There’s a giant one in two weeks we’ll take him to. He’ll just spend all day watching the displays run around the track

So, we're visiting MH's family a couple of hours away on Thanksgiving day (his grandparents' house). His stepmom texts him a couple of days ago asking if we could bring bottled water and deviled eggs because "that's the only thing not accounted for." Oh, and make sure there's enough for 25 people to have one or two. Ummmmm...so 50 effing deviled eggs?! Nope. Just no. Since when are deviled eggs a Thanksgiving menu staple? And how the hell are we supposed to transport 50 deviled eggs in the car for 2+ hours with a baby?
Yeah, I'm already making cranberry sauce for my family's Thanksgiving meal, so I'm making a double batch. You're welcome. We've gone there for Thanksgiving multiple times, and there have never been deviled eggs.

@starzia Lol! I know, right? They're perfectly nice people, so this was way out of left field. MH hasn't responded, and I think he won't unless she follows up. I think his plan is to be like....oooops, never saw the text.

You mean you don't have at least 6 deviled egg trays with lids to on hand to transport them? What kind of a household are you running?

I don't know how I did it but I wormed my way out of seeing my ILs for the holiday. My mom is working so my sister is coming tomorrow and we're just lying low for the day, doing the full turkey event on Saturday instead.
DS2 turned six months old on Monday and I'm so glad because I met my nursing goal (barely) and have officially called it quits. I feel so freeeeeeee! I'll miss the money savings but I just did not enjoy it at all, it was too stressful for me. FFWC?
