So I'm thinking of being crazy & going to the Disney store. We have a gift card from his birthday that I totally forgot about & I recently found out that if you are the first to get there when they open, you get some kind of cool key. Apparently they do some over the top "opening ceremony" & that person gets to open the store with some giant key & then they give you a commemorative key. I want to see if this is true. Since it's a Monday I feel like no one should be there so I'm assuming we would get it, maybe get there like 15min early. But again, me & DS alone out in the world gives me the heebeegeebees.

Sounds like a nice thing to do on a day off NamasteBirches. Have fun. I've never heard of the opening ceremony thing. You'll have to report back.

I am in a pickle. We got a letter home last week about girl scouts. I wasn't going to have DD join because, in all honestly, I don't want to put in the time. But at drop off this morning two of her friends mom's were saying that their girls would be joining. She's not in any other activities at the time, so it might be a good way for her to get to meet new kids. All I really know about girl scouts is that they force you to buy their damn cookies. I also remember being in it as a kid and my mom only letting me do it for one year because it was too expensive. I am hoping to talk to one of the other mom's who sounded like she had a older daughter in it to see if I can get any info from her.
Have any of you gotten your kids into girl scouts/boy scouts? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I spiraled on Amazon and catalogs last night looking at toys for Christmas. I'm finding so many cool STEM things for DD, but we can't afford it all.

Do you happen to know how much it costs? It says $25 plus the cost of the uniform, additional materials and activities. Seems like those things could easily put the cost over $100. She hasn't mentioned wanting to do it, so we'll probably pass. She wants to play soccer and we want to get her into golf lessons over winter, so she will have a chance to meet other people coming up.

Sounds like a nice thing to do on a day off NamasteBirches . Have fun. I've never heard of the opening ceremony thing. You'll have to report back. So it's confirmed. Every morning they have this "magical opening" thing. I guess it varies by store though because at ours, they had a book on a pedestal & engaged with DS about magical words, etc that made it light up which in turn made the store "open"; however, our store gave out a lanyard vs key. Womp womp The person I saw that stumbled upon this at their store used a big key to open up & gave out a really cool key so that stinks. I was going to ask one of the employees there but I'm sure they would have said it varies by location &+ also, DS was totally satisfied & he kept following me so I didn't want him to hear me so I dropped it. Here's what he got.

I believe here it is $75. Plus uniform, activities, etc. More than what we want to spend right now.

If so, what are your thoughts on it? We were interested in the boy scouts (DH is actually an eagle scout & was involved in scouting up until his early 20s) but with recent events with them & their beliefs/also political stances, we just can't do it. DH can't even get on board & he was always looking forward to when we'd have a son to sign up but he says he can basically do the same things they do with DS at home. Now if you push that aside because I'm not sure if the girl scout association is run by the same folks, I hear that it is quite the time commitment. As far as the boy scouts, when we did look into it, they meet on a weekly basis usually late like 6pm which really sucks. Then there's also "parent" meetings which I have no idea what that entails or means. I know it's cheap per year like 36 maybe but then there's overnight camping trips through the year, the uniform, & other trips that add up I'm sure. DS brought home a flyer earlier in the school year & was excited about it for an hour but their meetings are therapy nights anyway. I really don't know how interesting enough it would be for him anyhow at his point as well.

I really want to surprise DH with tickets to go see Nick Offerman in two weeks but alas, we need a sitter. It's one of those things that we have been saying we really need to find someone but we just don't do those types of things. Lol I think I'm going to post on our local group to see if anyone has any recs. If I can find someone, then I might just go ahead & get tickets. It would seriously blow his mind. I just feel so weird having someone be in our house but I'm just going to have to get over it if we want to do adult things.
