I have a Singer patchwork 7285q sewing machine that I bought on black Friday 5 years ago. Every Now and then my top thread wraps around my bobbin and I have to stop sewing, cut the threads loose and reload the bobbin. Anyone else have this machine and have the problem or have a similar problem? Picture shows what I'm talking about. Teal color os my top thread. This happened when I was almost done sewing the burp rag. It happens randomly whether I'm going slow or fast.

This sometimes happens to me when the thread on the top is on upside down. I don’t have that machine though

I was having a similar problem and found out I had bought a package of the wrong bobbins; turned out it wasn't so much "random" as "every time I used the wrong damn bobbins". Unfortunately, I didn't catch it - the repair guy did. The bobbins looked very, very similar in size and height, but one set had a flat top and the other a slightly rounded or humped top.

This could be it. I have some flat top (like in the picture) and some rounded ones. I also did just ask my mom for more bobbins for Christmas (the kind it says in the manual) and some sewing machine oil since I don't have any of that. Good think I don't have any sewing projects planned between now and Christmas.

I have this problem with my Singer too. I hate it because it jams the machine and makes a mess of what I’m sewing. I’m fairly positive I have the right bobbins but now I’ll have to check.

Have you cleaned the lint from your bobbin area lately? As in take the bobbin out, unscrew the plate and clear out the lint? That might be part of the problem.

Yep, I do it after a sewing project, and depending on how big a project I'm doing, I will also clean it out in the middle. Most of waht I've been sewing since I got the machine has been flannel blankets and flannel/terry cloth burp rags so LOTS of lint. My mom is getting a 12 pack of new bobbins for christmas, so what ever I have that doesn't match those is getting thrown out. I'm also getting some sewing machine oil since I don't have any.
