Oh wow kbw, my dietician said she’s only worried when 50%+ of the readings in a week are over. I generally average 1-3 high a week so I don’t take advantage of that but yes it does make me braver to try more stuff, I can see how 2 would make you nervous to try what you don’t know.

tiffrobot mine says she gets people will have treats and things are ok in moderation and in the next breath talks about if you have 2 high readings in a week they consider insulin so then I get nervous to try anything. Like I see posts about different breakfasts and the only things I’m allowed is 2 eggs with a slice of bread or 1/2 English muffin. No fruit, milk or anything like that. I am not going to lie, that sounds crazy strict to me. The dietician gave me guidelines for each meal based on a 2000 calorie diet. For breakfast I should have: 2 carbs (so maybe 2 slices of multigrain toast or a whole English muffin) 1 protein (I usually have 1 egg and 2 egg whites scrambled with a slice of American cheese) 1 milk 1 fat 1 fruit And maybe something else but I can’t think of it right now. Then she gave me a list of foods that she considers 1 of each item. For example for a fruit a half of a banana is one serving. So yes it says 1 fruit but I still have to be careful about portions. This is was a general worksheet she had too it wasn’t catered specifically for me. If you are that concerned about what you are allowed, I would talk to the dr and see what they say. You should not have to be so stressed out about what you are eating.

My mom is a nurse (I know I've said this before, but just in case people are like me and don't always connect personal details to the right poster...) and one of her coworkers used to work either in L&D or an OB's office and she said that you would be shocked by the number of women who have GD who don't pay the slightest bit of attention to what they eat, don't test their glucose levels and don't take their medicine or don't take it correctly. It absolutely blew my mind... I'm not always perfect and sometimes I eat something I shouldn't, but I also don't go completely crazy... Then I see us all here and we get worked up over a few off readings when we are probably doing better than most GD women out there. my best friend had gd with her second. They literally told her when she took the three hour to drink the drink, go eat something fatty and hat would tell them if she could control it with diet. Besides a few extra ultrasounds so never had to track anything.

@toffrobot and marygracerich the endo they gave me seeing is super conservative with her numbers. If she brings up going on insulin based on my numbers there will be a serious conversation and possible switch of dr’s. The worst part is my mom and H are convinced by my numbers and the fact that I was sick when I took the three hour (didn’t know you weren’t supposed to take the test sick) that I actually don’t have it.

I am pissed at my local Tim hortons. I am 99% sure they put sugar in my iced tea after I repeatedly asked them if they were sure they didn’t. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea. I took a sip. It tasted a little sweet. Not very but I know what plain tea tastes like. I made the people come to the window again to ask if they had sweetened it. Two different people came to the window and swore they didn’t. However I have pulled two numbers so far that are over 100 which is not normal for me. I haven’t eaten anything that should do that to me. Yes I know that hormones have a play in your numbers and all but there is zero chance that the iced tea didn’t have a little sugar in it. It even looked like there was a small bit of sugar at the bottom by the girl said it was pulp from the lemon they put in there. I bought the iced tea about an hour after I had breakfast and finished it about a little before lunch. I eat basically the same breakfast every day with small variations. It normally doesn’t get me over 90. No way should it have been 101. Then I had a salad for lunch that had very few carbs and nothing sugary in it. I have eaten this salad a few times and never gotten anything over an 85 or 90. I just got a 109. 😑

I'm currently spiraling on Pinterest for Christmas cookies that I want to make but most likely won't. I'm making some cookies and will freeze some for after Faith is born. If I remember I might even pack some in my hospital bag. lmao

I have been allowing myself some small treats after dinner if my numbers are good so I haven't been completely deprived but it for sure hasn't been what I would normally eat during this time of year. Of course the side benefit is that I'm not gaining a ton of weight (up maybe a pound total in the last 4-5 weeks) even though Faith is measuring on track. I'm serious about adding cookies to my hospital bag. lol I need to write it down on the list so I don't forget... Along with finding out the phone number for the closest Jimmy John's to the hospital. DH dared to tell me that "Subway is in the lobby, that is the same thing" last night and he got a super dirty look from me even though I knew he was joking (mostly). Jimmy John's is infinitely better than Subway.

I froze the dough and will actually bake them later. You could try that too! Then you'd have some yummy cookie dough in the freezer to pull out after delivery!

I plan on making Christmas cookies with DS after the baby is here so we can enjoy them together. He felt bad mommy couldn’t have any treats. I’m just hoping my hospital will allow me to eat what I want after delivery.

I’m just hoping my hospital will allow me to eat what I want after delivery. I am hoping this as well. My dr said as soon as he is born and the placenta is gone, my sugar should normalize. She said at that point I should be able to eat what I want. I have a list of things I want to eat which now includes my stepmoms Christmas cookies because they are my favorite.

Last night was my first increased dose of Glyburide and my fasting number was 79! Hopefully this does the trick without my sugar getting too low in the mornings. I didn't have my snack last night before bed (I'm not hungry at 11:30 usually and I hate eating when I'm not hungry) so I should probably do that tonight to see what happens.

A friend of mine has the same doctor has me and had GD with her first baby, and she told me she let her eat whatever she wanted right away in the hospital so H has a list ready from me 😂 My numbers have still been good on their own with the odd treat here and there but still going to have to make sure I at least limit my portion sizes for all three Christmas suppers we have Sat-Mon. Luckily I like turkey and can have a lot of protein on my plate haha!

Glad glyburide has worked for you. That's what I'm on and I've had perfect numbers since! I know what you mean about eating the late night snack. I hate it. I usually eat a piece of low carb bread with peanut butter.

I have an appointment Thursday with an endocrinologist to put me on insulin for my fasting numbers. Anyone else on insulin? I'm not looking forward to giving myself shots.

I’m not on insulin, but I’ve heard it’s even easier than the finger pricking! I’m not either, but my dietician said the same thing!

I usually eat a piece of low carb bread with peanut butter. Have you tried a drink instead? I was doing chocolate milk for awhile. I was diagnosed early and hell no to extra eating when you’re not feeling well! My current snack is dark chocolate covered cashews. Ah-mazing. And it’s not a lot, so it’s easier to handle. I’m not a late night eater. I've tried the Fair Life chocolate milk which is good, but usually that late at night anything other water (and sometimes even water) will give me heartburn.

I need to give in and try some of these treats, I’m just so scared to screw up my numbers. I was in the 70’s consistently for fasting and I’m inching closer to low 80’s and it’s making me too scared to try anything.

My fasting number is usually in the low 80’s and the drs are saying that I am still managing it great. Low 80’s should be fine. Around 9:30 I have a cup of the fair life chocolate milk and some almonds. It keeps me satisfied for most of the night and I have a good number in the morning. Also chocolate is so good.

This is going to be tmi and kind of gross but I am curious. Has anyone else seen a correlation between when they poop and their numbers. I have had constipation problems so I only go every other day. I notice that my numbers are always slightly elevated on the day after I have skipped a bathroom trip. For example my numbers were in the low 80’s all day yesterday. Today I ate very similarly and had higher numbers. I went to the bathroom in the evening. I bet anything my readings are better tomorrow.

kbw you're worrying too much. As long as you're under 90 fasting, you're good!!

kbw you're worrying too much. As long as you're under 90 fasting, you're good!! This kbw! Your goal is to be under 90! You can fail a few and still be okay. 😉 Also, it just makes living the Gestational Diabetes life easier to occasionally have treats. This! I got this email from my dietician today. It’s all about balance, not perfection! I had to respond nope, my birthday, I figure if I can get through this week with that and Christmas I’ll be just fine for the final stretch lol!

My OB is on the same page as Tiffrobots dr. I told her that Christmas Eve was going to be a challenge for me. My family eats fish on Christmas. I don’t eat fish. I usually only eat linguini with clam sauce but since pasta is not an option, I will likely have to bring my own food. She told me eat all the pasta I want on Christmas Eve. She don’t even worry about testing that night. She said I managing so well that even if I pulled a ridiculous number like 150 or 160 that A) it won’t harm the baby B) it’s one number and not a big deal. She told me to enjoy Christmas. 😊

Can I ask if anybody you have had growth scan ultrasounds if your babies abdominal circumference was large? Mine is in the 97th percentile so instead of putting me on insulin for just fasting I have to be on it for all meals. The doctor said not to worry and that babies with mother who have GD sometimes show this is a marker but it's still worrisome to me.

tiffbabey DS had a large stomach measurement and I didn’t have Gd for that pregnancy. They just continued to monitor it on growth scans and he was perfectly healthy.

I know what you guys are saying is true but I get so nervous because this doctor is so strict it seems like. Its been such a hard spot for me mentally because literally all of my paperwork even says if I’m over 120 more Han twice in a week I have to call for a check. So while I know it should be ok I can’t get over the mental block.

tiffbabey I just had my 36 week growth scan and LO's abdominal circumference was larger but they didn't start insulin because my numbers have been good. How are your blood sugar numbers? kbw I am sorry your doctor is so conservative. I can see how that could worry you!
