Does anyone have an IUD? I just had my PP appointment and talked about options. I’ve never had an IUD but that’s what the dr highly recommended. I’m leaning toward paraguard, but the thought of heavier longer periods for a while doesn’t sound fun. I know the Mirena is hormonal so has anyone used it while breastfeeding? Any issues with supply? Do you have another BFing friendly option for BC that you love ?

Mirena shouldn’t affect your ability to BF bc the hormones are local to the area, not systemic.
I have the mirena and so far no supply issues. I love having an iud- I had it for 8 years before getting pregnant and will have it until I can convince my H to get snipped! I had the mirena and then Paraguard before my LO and now have the mirena. I prefer the mirena despite the hormones but the 10year for Paraguard is really appealing, too. My ob said he prefers mirena to Paraguard even with it having hormones but that’s mainly Bc of the less intense periods.

I had Mirena after DS1. I loved it. It did not affect my milk supply at all. Insertion was NBD, I spotted for like 2 months which was annoying, but then never really had a period after that, and then removal was easy and painless as well. I only kept it in for 2 1/2 years though because then we TTC again.
We are done now and H is going to get snipped (as soon as he schedules that...) But if not then I'd totally get one placed again.

i used hte mini-pill. it was great, no periods. i think it's less of a long-term option though and i think you have to be pretty diligent about taking it at same time, etc. i really liked it.

I got the Kyleena at 8 weeks PP which is a bit smaller and has less hormones than Mirena. I had been struggling with low supply so I figured less hormones the better and it hasn't affected my supply.

I LOVE the paragard. I am soooo against hormones for a million different reasons. And the paragard was the best option for us both before ds1 and after ds1.
We are done now...and still contemplated paragard again, but dh decided he would get snipped. So, it's condoms around here until we get all that figured out.

ssm did you notice a difference with heavier crampier periods? i did. I had pretty heavy periods the first time I had it (before kids). I think the second time they were heavier than my natural periods, but definitely not as bad as the first time. They weren't heavy enough for me to avoid using it again, if that answers your question. But! Once I switched to cloth pads and a cup, my natural period lightened up a lot. So it is possible that is a factor as well.
