How old is LO?
How's everything going?
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share?
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? What's one reason why you want to BF?
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay?
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH?
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November?

grumpycat replying over here so I don’t bump the older check in :-) As long as you and LO are well supported, his body is snug against yours, and he’s got room to tilt his head back to latch, there’s not a “right” or “wrong” position. Common ones are cradle, cross cradle, football, laid back, and side lying. But whatever feels good and doesn’t end up with nipple pain /LO frustrated and not nursing. Laid back tends to be the most versatile.

How old is LO? 4 weeks
How's everything going? Ok - LO has started to stretch out her feeds to every 2.5-3 hrs which is nice (for sleep and just getting things done!)
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? She still won’t latch and nurse well on the left side. We were able to latch and nurse previously in football hold but now she basically latches till letdown and then maybe a few sucks and swallows after and that’s it. I’ve resorted to pumping the left side the majority of the time.
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? Nope, BF DD1 till 16 months What's one reason why you want to BF? It’s cheap and easy. I tend to default to just soothe/feed/put to sleep with the boob.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I wasn't planning on pumping yet but with LO refusing the left side I’ve built up a nice little stash already. We’ve given a few bottles to LO too and that’s gone well (DD1 refuses all bottles until the day she started daycare at 6 months).
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November? im looking forward to the starting of the holidays. DD1 is just old enough to “get it” and I’m excited to have maternity leave with LO so I can really just slow down and enjoy it all.

How old is LO? 7 weeks!
How's everything going? better finally. Thrush is g.o.n.e. LO had a bit of a shallow latch in my right which was causing some pain but I think we've turned a corner yesterday and he seems to be getting better. Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? OMG the GASSSSSS. Simethicone helps a bit but the farting is CONSTANT and smells awful. Sometimes he's uncomfortable, sometimes not. I have no clue what's going on. Like, is it just his GI tract just developing? Or is it something I'm eating? I've cut out broccoli, cauliflower, beans, most dairy, etc etc. Ugh.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? Yup. There's been a couple days here and there that he's wanted to nurse aaaalllll day which right now is generally fine because I'm home so ::shrug:: He's also still pretty small (less than 8lbs, which is great for my peanut!) so he's pretty easy to carry around and nurse still during those times lol.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Actually put the pump away for now! Pedi gave us the go ahead at his 1 month check to stop supplementing so no more pumping, measuring, mixing. We still supplement just regular formula, usually a bottle before bed from H, then sometimes overnight. I guess I could pump for those but, lazy.
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November? I really like Thanksgiving and I feel it's so underappreciated! So looking forward to that and getting into that mode.

How old is LO? 19 days
How's everything going? Good. More sleep would be great but he's eating well and bfing is going well minus some nipple pain still.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share?
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? Pretty much ... I EPed for a couple months with my first. He was very slow to gain, latched terribly, screamed bloody murder when he was hungry ... it didn't go well. What's one reason why you want to BF? I wanted to make sure ds2 got breastmilk for as long as I could do it and had zero interest in EPing. The thought of pumping still makes me cringe.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I know I need to start in a few weeks (pumping) but I'm dreading it. Right now I SAH but will likely be job hunting in January.
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November? Thanksgiving! So much yummy food.

How old is LO? 8weeks!
How's everything going? Great. I am having all the feels because I went to work at this time after DD1. That was so hard and really tough since I wasn't able to pump quite enough.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? None right now
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? Third What's one reason why you want to BF? It's cheap and I don't have to wash bottles every day.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? So far, yes. She is growing like crazy and I'm anxious to see how big she is when I take her for her 2 month appointment on Monday. I have to switch her to some 3-6 month clothes because she is so long.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I've been pumping 3-6 oz every night. It's kind of tiresome and I wind up skipping every couple nights, but I'm happy with the stash I've built up. I will be good for a date night on Saturday and my first day back at work, as well has a bit of stash for when I am not able to pump enough at work.
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November? I am enjoying the leaves turning. I have a beautiful view of trees and mountains off my back deck right now. I love driving down tree lined streets when the leaves are changing and falling.

thechickencoop we are dealing with a lot of gas too. I've cut back on dairy and stay away from spicy/chocolate/broccoli/cauliflower. Not sure if it's helped any. Was your LO born early? Mine was 3.5 weeks early and I think that may have to do with it. Stomach flora isn't mature?? Idk. I'm gonna ask the pediatrician at his 1 month appt.

He was born at 34 weeks, so yes, I never really thought about that. Maybe he would benefit from some probiotics or something, I'll have to call and ask. Thanks!

I hope it's okay if I just pop in?
How old is LO? 2.5 weeks
How's everything going? Pretty great, which pleases me. I'm trying to cut back on the comfort nursing so it doesn't become a long term issue, it's hard when baby wont take a paci to soothe.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Not really, I just had my 2 week pedi appt so I got a lot of the questions out of the way today haha.
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? Yes What's one reason why you want to BF? Honestly, because I can't afford not to. I had no emotional stock in BFing so I'm hoping that comes along eventually.
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November?
Thanksgiving, of course! For those who don't know me, my husband is active duty navy and out to sea a lot. Thanksgiving will be out first holiday as a family and we will be able to take DD to see all H's family for the first time.

How old is LO? 5 weeks
How's everything going? Ok. Experiencing lots of fussing at the breast. And lots of gas.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? I'm wondering if gas causes fussing at the breast. If so, how do I help the gas situation? If not, what can I try? He's gaining well (12+ lbs) but sometimes I can't figure out how because of how much he fusses, seems like he can't be getting that much milk but I guess he is.
0-1mo: Is this your first experience BF? No, I BF DS1 until he was 20 months or so (I got pregnant again and supply dropped). What's one reason why you want to BF? It is easy (well, it was with DS1) and free.
1-3mo: Getting through growth spurts okay? Yes
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Just starting to pump. Need to intro the bottle, will be returning to work 12/20.
GTKY: what’s something you’re looking forward to in November? End of (HS) football season. My husband is a HS football coach and I've been doing lots of solo parenting and I'm over it.

thechickencoop have you asked your pedi about a probiotic for baby? They’re over the counter. Could help with the gas. CoachTsWife so many things can cause fussing at the breast. Most common for a well gaining young baby is dealing with an overactive let down. kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/supply-worries/fast-letdownEspecially if the fussing seems to coincide with letdown. Nursing uphill so gravity works against milk flow can help (football or laid back positioning.) Alternatively, if fussing starts mid feed, may be baby trying to elicit another letdown. You can try breast compressions to speed flow if this is the case, or switch breasts. Another common fussing cause is needing to burp. You can put baby up on your shoulder or tummy down across your lap and pat or rub his back to help the burp come out.

lily I *think* we are dealing with actual dairy sensitivity vs normal gas. Not only does he fart CONSTANTLY and struggle to do so, but he stinks. Like, something crawled up there and died 🤢 I've seen a marked difference in the last 24 hours and we've cut 99% of dairy for the last 48. He gets 3 to 4 oz if formula each evening so I bought a can of hypoallergenic formula and we used that last night; kid slept *peacefully* from hugs 10 to 5 am. And while he's been slightly gassy today, none of his farts stink. Soo....that's where we are. I am hoping that it wasn't just a fluke last night and it continues tonight as well. The formula had probiotics in it as well so I figure that can only help.

@starzia if baby is sleeping, you’re okay to sleep too. Your supply will adjust. You can run your pump for a few minutes after you’re done to prevent condensation from forming in the tubes. When you run the pump to clear it, you need the unhooked end to be higher than the pump. You can drape it over the top of the machine. If it is hanging down, the moisture will get sucked into your pump, speeding mold and mildew buildup in the motor (if it’s an open system like the Medela PISA.)
