Sorry this is a bit off topic and not related to pregnancy, but I’m looking at transitioning my 2 year old to a bed in the next month or so. Trying to allow lots of time before the baby arrives.
I’m confused about bed rails. How do they attach to the bed? My dad is making a bed for DD, so I can give him directions about how to build it to suit a bed rail, but I don’t know how it works?
Do you 2nd time + mums have a favorite type/brand you can recommend?
Thanks!

As long as the bed frame is flat, it will be fine to accommodate a rail. The bed rail straps to the bed frame under the mattress and then can be rotated down when not in use. It was kind of annoying because his toddler bed (which converted from the crib), was really low to the ground.
We ended up getting a race car twin bed for next to nothing that has a rise for the car door that acts as a rail. It’s also way more comfortable for me to lay in, which happens a lot.

We just have a foam? bumper type thing that goes under the fitted sheet and acts as a buffer. It’s tall enough that he can’t roll out

budders thanks, so the base of the bed needs to be slats to attach a strap to? I see how it could get in the way. Would you recommend looking for something different then?

I don't know how much help I can be as we have a crib that converts to a toddler bed. The toddler rail just screws to the front just like the crib front did so no bed rail needed. If your dad is building the bed, maybe he can build on removable side rails as well?

We never used anything with either kid. My mil uses the foam pool noodles in their bed when the kids sleep over.

I think he'd really have to put a lot of effort into to roll over it.
