H and I have determined that we need to get a 2nd carseat. H drives an extended cab F-150. Similar pic below. It has a backseat, but it's pretty tight. Can I get a RF convertible seat in there, and what do you recommend?

I'm going to say no. We had a Dodge 1500 with a full cab and it was hella tight with either the bucket seat or a convertible. Now we have a 2500 with the extended cab and it comfortably fits a rear facing car seat.

My dad has this truck, and we have used a Graco Headwise in it. The front seats have to be moved forward quite a bit, but it's not impossible or too uncomfortable. We've ridden like that for longish trips, and it's been fine.
ETA his truck has a regular bench seat in the back with a door that swings open. I think there's a model where the bench folds down? But I don't have experience with that.

Have you tried the car seats for the littles facebook page? They'll give you recommendations.

If you are looking for something that takes up little front to back space I would look at either a diono radian or a graco extend2fit. I had a radian on both sides of the back seat of my Jeep 4 door and it fit. Wasn't the most comfortable for the passenger but it worked. You have to use the angle adjuster for the diono though. Personally, we switched over to the extend2fit and love it. Not sure on front to back measurements compared to the diono though.

I'd recommend going to car seats for the littles fb page and asking them what will fit. They are great at knowing exactly what fits in each vehicle. We had a britax boulevard G3 in H's Nissan Frontier before we turned DS forward facing.

Diono Radian maybe? MH has Tacoma with a double cab (4 doors) so it's probably a bit bigger, but we have always been able to rear face both girls in his truck. DD2 is in DD1's old Britax Boulevard CT and DD1 in a Radian R100 now.

We have a 4 door Nissan Frontier and our Chicco Nextfit Zip fits in the back just fine. Also, before we had the Nextfit, we had the Chicco Keyfit 30 and it also fit safely.

I also recommend CSFTL on facebook. They will find you the exact right thing

In H's truck it made the seat too upright and really challenging to get DD in and out of the seat with it RF. We took it out since the truck is used far less and rarely with a passenger.

+1 to checking out car seats for the littles. Also we went to Buy Buy Baby, and they let us put the model in the car to make sure it fits before buying.

They will find you the exact right thing I will forewarn that the CSFTL has been advising against dionos lately because they feel they are a difficult install, quickly outgrown (height), and there are others on the market that are just as compact anymore. Also, there was some mention of diono changing their "rules" and not informing customers of the changes or something like that. I'm really not certain what that last bit is all about, I just know I've seen it mentioned.

Oops! Bluebird, Can you share the info above? DS is 19 months and will only occasionally be riding in this vehicle. depending on his height and weight, the Scenera might be a good option. I believe there is no recommended incline once with child can sit unassisted. It's cheap and it's a good option for plane travel as well.

It doesn't last long FF but it gets the RF job done for $45. I don't love the seat (I'm a graco fan) but in my husbands tiny Honda civic, it works great for RF our 18 month old.

Thanks regal & peachsmama! I think we're going to go with the Scenera. Can't beat the price for a backup seat that can also be used for travel.

It sounds like you have it figured out but I thought I'd share my experience anyway. We have the '99 version of that truck so also have difficult seatbelts/no latch. The biggest factor for us was the size and shape of the base of the carseat because the seat itself is not very deep. I took the truck to BRU and tried a lot of seats 5 years ago and ended up with a Britax Roundabout. It and my Marathon G3 fit amazingly well both RF and FF. I just got a new Graco E2F and it fits really well too. The Evenflo Sureride will not fit RF and doesn't fit well FF either.

We have a tiny backseat and the Diono Radian and the Maxi-Cosi Pria were basically our only options.
