I posted this on Lexi’s BMB, but I figured I’d XP here in case any of you have experience.
Sooo.... TTMA toddler leashes. We’re going to a large city zoo next weekend, and I’m considering buying a leash for it. We’re taking her stroller, but she is all “I walk!” now and it’s a struggle to get her to keep a hold of our hands. Who has/has had leashes? Are they good? Bad? Do you get a bunch of judgy looks from other people? (I don’t care much about that. I’m just curious.) Tell me your thoughts/opinions.

Used one of the backpack leashes with my niece and it was awesome. She was so into walking but my shoulder hurt after an hour of leaning down to hold her hand. The leash let her change pace more easily too. I never ended up using one with my own toddler - he was happy in a baby carrier in situations like that - but it was stellar with my niece.

I use a harness type leash from time to time. Mostly I got envious/positive comments from other parents (especially at the grand canyon).

I used a backpack style leash on DD in a busy airport when she was 16 months old and it was a disaster. She kept trying to run away and it would just make her fall down. it was so bad. The whole point of the leash was to not have to chase her around, and I was doing that anyway. So for us, it didn't work that great. With that being said, if it works for you, I say go for it. You'll get judgey looks from people no matter what you do.

My 16 month old just started walking so we haven't tried a leash yet, but I think it's a great idea! I can see how it wouldn't work for everyone but seems like it may be worth a try.

We use one of the backpacks with the attachable leashes for DD when we travel. It works great for us. But she’s not a runner by nature, just objects to holding my hand not in a parking lot. Mostly though these days she takes the leash from me and “walks” herself.

We used a skip hop backpack one with our son. He loves it because he could carry toys or whatever in the backpack. And the leashe part detaches, so once they are past the running stage, you can still use the backpack. We often used just the backpack and the top handle of it as a way to catch him if he tried to dart, if that made sense. It was an easier target.
