I'm due at the very end, and it seems like a lot of you have been through this already so anyone care to tell me about their NIPT experience?
With DS we did Harmony testing and it was free because they were still in the beginning stages and trying to get insurance coverage. I haven't called around yet but my internet research tells me that we'll likely pay OOP for testing this go around. And, yes, NIPT is very important to us. I know the genetic counselor will have more info, but I like to do my research. FTR, I'm 32.

I've got nothing to contribute, but wanted to tag along on your post - which NIPT should I go for, if it's one my insurance covers?

We were offered the Harmony test at our OB appointment instead of the NT testing. My insurance technically covers it but I doubt they will. I talked to the lab that Harmony goes through and there is a patient protection plan that will cap my out of pocket cost at $199 because they are contracted with my insurance. So best case for us was 20 % of $450 or $199 if it’s denied. If you call them they can give you exact numbers with your plan which is nice. The info was on my prenatal paperwork.

I can’t comment on insurance questions, here it’s not covered. So I was $420 out of pocket for it. It’s really important to me to screen for trisomy and other issues so I am ok with the fee. Basically I had a scan, then met with a genetic counselor to go over my family history for red flags, then did the blood draw. They did the Harmony test.
Last pregnancy the place I went to just did the blood draw. It was fine, but it was nice to meet with the counselor this time and of course a scan is always good. I think I did a Maternity 21 test last time. Same thing. All the accuracy is amazing.

We did it last time around and will this time as well. My insurance will likely cover it but I would pay out of pocket. My MW’s office strongly recommends it over other 1st tri testing. It’s very important to me.
ETA: I lack reading comprehension apparently. I don’t think this answers your questions at all, sorry. I have my blood draw 11/6 so can update after that.

My Dad, founder and chief scientific officer of a genomics company so I trust his opinion in the area of genetics, said to get the Harmony test. He trusts the company, AriosaDX, more than others. (that sounded like a horrible humble brag but I was just trying to give some background, lol)

robot, all experiences are helpful I would pay OOP, as well, if necessary because I think it's important to have all the info. adeline, our genetic counselor called their (Harmony) customer service line for us last time which was nice - I just need to add it to my to do list. The genetic counselor had only done the local NIPT (through the university lab) and MaterniT21. When we found out that she could get Harmony for her patients for free she was really excited. I'm adopted and H's parents used donor sperm so we find it extra important to have all the info.

And if anyone has general questions about Amniotic Fluid and CVS tests I can try to answer those as I worked in the Micro Array field for five years.

I don't know if this is relevant to anyone other than myself, but if using donor gametes there is only one test that is accurate. I believe it's the Mat21, but I have to double check on the exact test.
