@starzia sorry she isn't taking to the shots well. We bought dye free infant Tylenol but didn't end up using it. Do you have some? I'd give it to her and a warm bath might be nice if she likes them anyways.
Though A wasn't fussy, he was super sleepy and wanted to nurse the rest of the day. Just keep an eye out for fever and redness/rash around the injection site. She should be better tomorrow.

Also, my pedi said to not give them Tylenol before the shots because there are not enough studies to say if it can or can't effect (affect?) the potency of the vaccine.

I didn’t give R any because she seemed fine.
We gave it to T when she had then. I didn’t check for a fever with her, because I wasn’t about doing it rectally without a reason. Her doctor said it was ok to give, if I thought there was a reason. She slept a lot, but would wake up whimpering. So, we gave it.

Awww M. yeah we gave him a little bit of tylenol after his shots. he barely took any of it right after - he was too full and sleepy, but several hours later he took almost the prescribed dose (we didn't have a syringe, only a cup so I put it in a bottle nipple and he didn't finish all of it so, eh. but he was super sleepy and cuddly that day.
hope she feels better soon.

I posted about this in one of the randoms threads but P got suuuuuuper fussy a few hours after her shots and then shortly thereafter developed a fever of 101 that I actually called the on-call nurse about. We gave Tylenol and she was better in the morning.
Also, at this age, rectal temp is really the only reliable temp.

Aww! Shots are not fun! H had a low grade fever and the doctor said Tylenol was good. I never gave it to him becuase he was acting his normal self. However, if it was higher or he was overly fussy I would have.

I hope she is better in the morning poor girl. I also have heard not to give it before the shots but I would after if she had a fever or super fussy.
M was surprisingly mostly sleepy and seemed ok.

I got a no touch thermometer. It is accurate at 2 months of age. Doc was like rectal temp is still better. No thank you. I do not like doing that to her at all. Also she is 100.5 so I’m going for the Tylenol after all I'm sorry that she isn't feeling well and I hope she is doing better today. We've had to use the rectal thermometer a couple of times and he didn't mind it one bit. I believe a temperature over 100.5 for a baby under 3 months warrants a call to the doctor, but I would double check her temperature rectally first. J had diarrhea and was fussy for a few days after his first round of shots, but no fever so we didn't give him anything and just rode it out. I hope she feels better soon!

Awww poor girly. I have no experience nor advice but have hugs for both baby and mama! 💗 @starzia I hope her fever goes down quick and she feels better soon!
We had to temp her regularly those first couple of weeks and always done so rectally. I am not a fan per se but she doesn't mind herself at all so I guess tis just me heh.
D gets her first shots Nov 1st. Dreading it already and just hope she won't get a fever. Fever and babies scare me. I got baby tylenol suppositories just in case. What dosage do you give? Think these sups are 125gr .. I have yet to read the leaflet. It seems some of you get tylenol as a suspension? Never heard of that!

Hi! I miss everyone! Why aren't we hanging out on the Infants board??? I'm not sure, I don't know if I've been over there. I had a hard enough time trying to get posters to hang on the pregnancy board. Lol

I've never checked either of my kids temps rectally. In the NICU we always did axillary(armpit) so that what we continue to do. Add a degree and call the dr. if it's too high. They might ask you to do a rectal temp, but that hasn't been my experience. Temporal thermometers are notoriously unreliable though. At least the ones you get for at home use.

We do the lowest dose before and it really helps. I forget with him during his first appointment which sucked...
Now that my daughter is walking I have her move around asap which helps. If they are too tense or still it can get really sore.

D's first shots are coming up on Wednesday. So if I understand correctly nursing her right after helps? Is it the nursing/being on the boob thing that sooths them or would a bottle pumped milk also work? With what walks in and out at the clinic I am less inclined to BF in public there. I could either bring a bottle or go straight home and nurse her there but that would take 10 minutes..
I dont know whether I am comfortable giving her tylenol beforehand just in case.. she s never had it so what if she doesnt respond well then I won't know whether tis the tylenol or the shots. Thoughts?
Probably am freaking myself out beforehand for no reason but I am so worried she will get feverish. If that happens, how soon after shots does that usually occur? I am going to ask them to explain to me clearly when to call and what to do if she does. Maybe it will help my anxiety.

muscari I bottle fed after shots this time obviously and it helped a lot. I think it was the being held in my arms and sucking on something that hekped. We gave Tylenol about 4 hours after shots because he was so fussy and felt hot. It helped. We ended up giving him 2 doses.

muscari I bottle fed and it helped. He got his on the earlier side, right after he turned six weeks. I think 6-10w is the norm - like it should be 8w and then +/- two weeks for wiggle room

@musicari, she might not even care. Oliver cried for about 30 seconds after his 2 month shots. Snuggles took care of it quickly. Remember that if you are stressed about it she will know and it will stress her out. Try to relax, things will be okay.
He developed a fever the night after he got his 4 month shots, but Molly has also been sick so I'm not convinced it was the shots that caused the fever. Gave Tylenol and put him to bed. They should give you a dosage chart and tell you what to give based on her weight. Good luck!

@musicari as far as nursing goes, they have always offered to let us stay in the exam room if we needed to.

Just what nutmeg said muscari. M did fine and they let me stay in the exam room to nurse her. She never got a fever after so maybe D won’t too. Personally I wouldn’t give Tylenol before but would after if a fever developed. GL, sometimes it’s harder on us then them.
