For the purposes of this check-in, we will define extended breastfeeding as breastfeeding beyond 1 year. Questions are repeated and suggestions are appreciated! 1. How old is your LO? 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? 4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? Pregnant & BFing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any issues with supply, pain, aversion? Questions for other moms? Tandem Nursing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any current challenges? Questions for other moms? Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud?

1. How old is your LO? 2 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 3 3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? Occasionally he drinks cow's milk, but he's never been that into it. We gradually mixed WCM into BM at 1 year to transition him at daycare. 4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? My H used to ask me to express milk into a cup for him to gargle with when he had a sore throat. I kinda doubt it did anything.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? DS2's recent habit of putting his mouth on the end of the neck of a watering can (it's an indoor watering can, at least), and humming/blowing into it like he's playing the saxophone.

1. How old is your LO? 14 months
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 6ish
3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? No. Dairy seems to affect her sleep, I think it gives her a stomach ache. I gave her a couple ounces of cow’s milk once and she basically didn’t sleep for 2 days. So I completely cut dairy and she slept much longer than she ever has before. Idk, it could have been a coincidence, I know my family thinks I’m imagining it.
4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? I haven’t done anything with it besides feed DD.
I think I need to go back on an anti-depressant. I went off of it before we TTC and I was hoping to wait until I had weaned DD but I’m not ready to wean her and I don’t think I can wait much longer. I also think I will need to stay on it when we decide to have another child and I’m having a lot of feelings of guilt and failure for not being able to manage my anxiety and depression. I also worry about the damage I’ve already caused DD because I know untreated anxiety/depression are bad for babies and I was very anxious and depressed during pregnancy.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? She thinks it’s hilarious to blow raspberries on my stomach.

1. How old is your LO? Almost 13 months.
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? Oh man, not sure. We still nurse on demand, so every 2-3 hours for him, except when he's at daycare.
3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? He drinks rice milk (allergic to dairy). I started mixing it with BM a week before he turned one.
4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? I've put it in his bath water to help with rashes...except it was pumped while I ate food he was allergic to before we knew about it, so it didn't work out quite as well.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? He got upset and threw himself on the floor this morning. I think it's funny that the tantrums are already starting.

1. How old is your LO? 21 months 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 3 on daycare days, 4-5 on non-daycare days and then wayyyy too many overnight 3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? she drinks cow's milk at daycare. once in a while she gets chocolate milk at home with breakfast on weekends. we don't give her milk at home really, just water. 4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? Just feeding my little. I kept thinking about tasting it but never did and now I don't pump anymore. Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? funny dancing to moana.

tomato, do whatever you need to do so that you can feel good. remember how they say you have to on your own oxygen mask first. most meds are fine while breastfeeding. if you aren't already seeing a therapist i'd definitely recommend one to help you process your feelings and develop healthy coping strategies. hugs!

tomato take care of yourself. There are definitely meds compatible with BF. You can call Infant Risk and talk to them about it before you meet with your doc if you want to go in with BF compatible options.

1. How old is your LO? - 2.5 years
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? - 1-4
3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? - cows milk. Introduced in a cup a little after his first birthday so I could donate my freezer stash. He drinks some with breakfast if he asks for it.
4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? - I rubbed it on DS’s baby acne but that was mostly due to overactive letdown.
Pregnant & BFing Moms: How are you doing this week? Any issues with supply, pain, aversion? Questions for other moms? - doing well. Lots of nipple sensitivity.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud?

1. How old is your LO? 25 months 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 1-2 3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? she drinks organic cows milk. I just gave it to her. 4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? DD had a lacerated cornea and I shot breast milk in there before we could see a doctor. It didn't work. She just got pissed.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? she was trying to do a forward roll (something she loves to do) but she was too tired and ended up just dragging her head across the carpet for at least 12 feet before she fell over.

1. How old is your LO? 17 months
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 10ish sometimes more, rarely less.
3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? Yep, WCM with meals and some snacks. I just gave her some one day and she drank it.
4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? I made bm lotion once. I used it a couple times on rashes and then forgot about it. The rash only lasted a day or two, but likely would have even without the lotion, so who knows if it helped.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? She started tickling me. Thanks to SO teaching her that it was this awesome new game she could play. 😑 I was not amused.

1. How old is your LO? 13 months
2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 2-4 plus BM bottles on days I work in office, 5-7 on days I'm with DS all day. The amount of time he's nursing has dropped significantly all of a sudden. I thought he was a bit young to be self-weaning but he barely spends 5 minutes on the boob when he nurses now (except in the morning when he'll go 20+ minutes on the same side). Question for the group: Could he be self-weaning? I feel like my supply never rebounded after my first PP period so IDK if he's just not getting enough so he doesn't want to bother now? Or if this is just what happens as LOs get older and I just need to let it go and he'll do what he wants?
3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? Occasionally we let him drink a little bit of significantly watered down juice, but mostly it's just BM and water. I drink Polar flavored seltzers every day and he seems to like those too - he always wants a few sips. I won't give him too much because of the bubbles though. For the water and juice we just put some in a sippy and let him try it. For the seltzer he grabbed my arm and kept pulling until I finally poured some from my bottle in his mouth.
4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? I've actually never used it for anything other than feeding him. I did consider putting it in my own coffee once in a bind, but decided not too.
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? Make funny faces. He's gotten really into making all sorts of expressions recently and some of them are pretty funny!!

Nymeria, i doubt he is self-weaning at this age. did your he start walking recently? IME when LOs first start walking they are so busy that they tend not to nurse for very long. and then that phase will end and they'll be back to nursing endlessly. i'd just go with the flow. if your LO is starting to nurse less at home and you are still pumping at work, you might consider dropping pumping at work (or going from 2x/day to 1x a day). if you're having issues with being engorged because your LO is too distracted to nurse, try nursing in a quiet, dark room.

Thanks vvvvvfee. He's not walking yet but he did learn to stand in the past couple weeks and absolutely loves running around the house behind the walker my MIL got him for his birthday. It could definitely be that he just wants to be up and moving. When I nurse him in bed in the morning he'll go 20 minutes on one side. I already dropped from 3 pumping sessions to 2 at work after he turned 1. My pumping output is tanking and while pumping is generally not an indicator of supply, I think my milk production has dropped significantly due to these short sessions too. So I guess I just keep on with what I'm doing and see if he starts to nurse more again. In the meantime I'm thankful I have my freezer stash to supplement what I'm currently able to pump at work.

Nymeria, I don't have experience with self weaning, but I know teraiin 's son self weaned pretty early. So it's definitely possible. I wouldn't think it's your supply, though. That would more likely result in frustration from what I've seen. But I could be wrong. I don't remember when it started, but unless she's waking up or going to sleep she usually sticks to 5 minute or less sessions now. And I'm pretty sure my supply is fine.

Better late than never:
1. How old is your LO? 22.5 months 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 2x on days he goes to daycare, 3x the rest of the week 3. Does your LO drink other milk besides breast milk? How did you introduce it? Yes WCM, I just gave him a cup of it one day and he drank it without batting an eye. He loves it so much. 4. What's the weirdest thing you've used breast milk for? If you were trying to cure an ailment with it, did it work? I am trying to think but I don't think we ever used it for anything besides him drinking it
Non-BFing question of the week: What's the last thing your kid did that made you laugh out loud? He was sitting quietly, playing with his Fisher Price bus the other night, bobbing his head along to the music it plays... IDK typing it out it doesn't sound that funny but it really was

Sorry going back through old tags to see if I missed any! Nymeria DS self weaned around 11 months or maybe 10.5 months. It got so he would hardly tolerate nursing. His sessions got shorter and shorter and the only ones I could "count" on were evening before bed or right when he got up in the morning. But even those got tough. I tried different positions, minimizing distractions, etc. nothing wa sever able to get him back. I pumped for kicks sometimes after his refusal and is be able to pump plenty of milk. So I don't think it was a supply thing. 🤷🏻♀️
