Grassley: What are you doing about Obama giving Uranium to the Russians?
Sessions: "Some people have gone to jail already."
Grassley: THE CLINTONS TOOK RUSSIAN MONEY! Did Obama collude with the Russians?
Sessions: I can't comment on ongoing investigations

Feinstein has a lot of paper in front of her, and an aide brought her more a couple of minutes ago. She's prepared.

It's long established in all the other hearings with Cabinet officials since January. They've all been doing it and the Senate does nothing. When I hear long established I think years. Oh I know. I was being sarcastic. It's only long-established in this admin.

DiFi: "What is your designated role in the decision to fire James Comey?"
Sessions: POTUS asked for DAG and AG to put a recommendation in writing, which we did. "I don't think it's been fully understood the significance of the error that Mr. Comey made on the Clinton matter." This is the first time that an investigative agency has ever announced the closure of an investigation. Comey testified before Congress that he did the right thing, and would do it again.
Now he's giving us Rosenstein's CV.
"[Rosenstein] said that was a usurpation of the Attorney General's position...I think that was a basis for a fresh start at the FBI....I am really excited about the new Director, Chris Wray"

DiFi: What, exactly, did POTUS say to you and Mr. Rosenstein about firing Comey?
Sessions: He asked for our written opinion and we submitted that to him. It did not represent a change in our opinions.
DiFi: Did POTUS ever mention to you his concern about "lifting the cloud" of the Russia investigation?
Sessions: That's confidential
DiFi: "But you don't deny that there was a communication?"
Sessions: I will neither confirm, nor deny, that I have ever met the President

Sessions: The Office of Legal Counsel was consulted before defending POTUS against lawsuits claiming violations of the emoluments clause. It is within the responsibilities of the DOJ to support and protect the Office of POTUS and his actions. NO. NO IT ISN'T. THAT'S WHAT WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL IS FOR

Sessions: POTUS has the power to issue pardons with or without the DOJ. But Obama. Etc.

DiFi: So, you basically just confirmed that POTUS didn't follow the proper procedures when pardoning Arpaio.
Sessions: "I'm not at this moment prepared to give you an accurate answer." vert de ferk?

Hatch would like to know why the DOJ is blocking the growth of marijuana for research. Good question.
Sessions says that there is currently one supplier of marijuana used for medicinal research purposes. There are 26 applications for approval of additional suppliers. The DEA has to supervise each of these, so Sessions is supportive of expanding the supply and competition, but is concerned about the cost of the DEA oversight.

Hatch: Shouldn't mens rea (the knowledge that one is violating the law when doing so) be part of the conversation on criminal justice reform? Religious liberty, as Sessions has said, is a fundamental and paramount right. Doesn't this apply as wholly to the Executive branch as to the Legislative?
Sessions: "We believe that there is a lack of appreciation of the rights of Americans not only to have private religious thoughts, but to exercise their religious freedom. That's what the Constitution says. 'Congress shall make no law to establish a religion or to prohibit the free exercise of any relgion." Dude, do you listen to yourself talk?!

Senator Leahy is asking about Kislyak, the Mayflower, and the party platform.
"Now, I would never accuse you of colluding with Russia....we've known each other for decades...If Senator Jeff Sessions were in my shoes, he wouldn't tolerate being misled. With that being said, do you understand why your answer of 'No' was false testimony?" (he's talking about Sessions not copping to meetings with Kislyak during the September hearing.
Sessions: I agree with you that addressing the issue of Russian interference in our election is bigger than any party or candidate. Gee golly, let me adjust my necktie.
Leahy: Ok, but, we asked if you had been in contact with any Russian government officials and you said no.
Sessions: I didn't understand the question. I didn't think you were asking if I had actually ever had a conversation with Kislyak. I meant I didn't have any "IMPROPER" meetings with the Russians. BOLOGNA BOLOGNA

Sessions: I spoke with the Russian ambassador at the Republican convention. He asked to meet with me in my office later. I met with 26 ambassadors that year, including the one from Russia. "I don't think there was any discussion of details of the campaign." Maybe some comment was made about Trump's positions, that's possible.

ha! Leahy: Have you been interviewed, or requested for an interview, by the special counsel? Sessions: You'll have to ask the special counsel. Leahy: "No, I"m asking you." He repeats the question. Sessions: "Well, I'd be pleased to answer that question....but...I'd have to check with the special counsel....." Leahy: HAVE YOU BEEN INTERVIEWED BY THE SPECIAL COUNSEL Sessions: No. Leahy: Your answer is no? Sessions: My answer is no. Leahy: :sigh:
