sammichcat the cat in the hat learning books must be what I’m trying to describe. So good! Like ‘Clam I Am’. Hilarious titles.

We have a couple I've found at second hand stores, but they are hard to find. Most I've borrowed from the library. I love science so I was happy to find some fun books other than Magic School Bus (which DS1 watches on repeat and thus I have no desire to read).

DS1 likes almost any book and will generally read the same books for a week and then move on to different ones. DS2 is pickier. He will just walk away if he doesn't like the book I'm reading. Like DS1, he likes books with which he is familiar, but he favors books about trucks and ones with flaps/textures (which DS1 didn't care for). In general DS2 is a vehicle guy. DS1 is a sports guy.

V has a core set of books that he loves, probably because he has them memorized at this point and he can read them along with me. Those are:
Night night Groot The going to bed book Brown bear Brown bear Good night Moon
Otherwise, he’s really into superheroes, garbage trucks, and animals, and any of those books will do. We’re definitely in a phase where he needs short text and prefers rhyming books because it’s more predictable for him to follow along.

As for adult recommendations, when this question comes up I always recommend A Man Called Ove. It was emotionally impactful without being too heavy, and I loved the characters and the story.
Other recommendations:
Cormoran Strike series (JK Rowling alias Robert Galbraith) Wallander series (Henning Mankel) Alice and Oliver by Charles Bock A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (very heavy, lots of TW)
I’ll post more if I think of them.

DD is obsessed with all of the Pete the Cat books. They're really cute.
As far as adult books, I'm embarrassed to admit I have not read a single book since DD was born 2.5 years ago so I can't even remember the last good book I read. But I need to take alllll the recommendations. I miss reading!

Pete the Cat has been very good for both my kids starting around age 2. We get a lot of books from the library so it's hard to think of favorites. They like books based on songs or those "How Do Dinosaurs..." books by Jane Yolen.
Right now I've been into cookbooks because I'm sick of our dinners. I do have a lot of books on a to-read list but am too indecisive to pick which one to start.

My general go to book recommendations are Uprooted by Naomi Novik (fantasy) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (kinda YA but the MC is a freshman in college) Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (fantasy / fantastical realism) though sometimes I rec The Graveyard Book instead This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales (YA) and Stephen King though it’s hard to recommend which book without chatting with someone first.

My ebook list is out of control right now. I joined bookbub.com about a year ago & get daily emails of cheap books, so I have a bajillion to read, but still buy 2-4 a week on average. Whoops. My brain is just too tired to read lately. I usually read Harry Potter this time of year, but I haven't started yet. Maybe I'll do that tonight during my epsom salt bath.
Some favorites in our house are Madeline, Fancy Nancy, and Eloise for A, Curious George is a HUGE favorite, too. The big kid is a fan of Captain Underpants, but I don't get it. He also digs a lot of those simple I Can Read books, since he's in the early stages of learning to read to himself (he's 6).
