I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding in January and I'm going by myself for 3/4 nights. My trip needs are totally different this time around and I'm looking for ideas or advice. - Makeup. I haven't worn makeup in years, so my makeup is no good. Where do I buy all the makeup without spending a fortune and which makeup do I buy? I have freckles, so foundations/concealers tend to look strange on me. - Clothes. I need my bridesmaid dress obviously, but I have just about zero "nice" clothes otherwise (I've had to replace my wardrobe with each pregnancy). I just bought this dress and it looks great on me: What other nice clothes should I get? - Car. We always get a rental car when we travel as a family, but I'm thinking about just using Lyft while there. I have zero Lyft/Uber experience and probably haven't even taken a taxi in years. Would this likely be fine? Too expensive? A rental car would probably about $175. I'd prefer not to drive while there, but I also don't want to spend gobs of money. Any other tips or things that I'm not anticipating?

Do you want makeup for the whole trip or just the wedding? If it's just the wedding, it may be cheaper to see if you can get an appointment somewhere to have your makeup done. I think Lyft or Uber would be fine as long as you make sure it's readily available where you will be. No idea on the clothes. I am excited for you!

Ooo, I like the idea of having my makeup done for the wedding. I should check with the bride if she wants all the bridesmaids to do that. Then maybe I'll pick up simple stuff like mascara, lipstick and eye shadow for the rest of the trip. We have a MAC makeup nearby and I'm sure that they can help me with that.

We've used Lyft in several cities and my husband has the app so he's the one that's always set it up, but it seems super easy and it's pretty cheap so I'd do that over a rental.
I like dresses so that's always my go-to for any sort of event. If you don't want to wear dresses the whole time you could go with a pair of dress pants and a couple coordinating tops.
I'd say yes go to MAC! In-person makeup shopping is the way to go.

I really liked Lyft when I was in a city that was walkable but needed a few longer-than-walking trips.
And I think having a professional do makeup day-of is a great idea, if you want a full face.
I think learning to do and buying makeup for a full face would be intimidating for me. But maybe you already know how. I'm team mascara and lipstick.

Make sure you have a button down or something you can slip down for the day of the wedding. You don't want anything going over your head when you do makeup and hair.
I'd go to a makeup store, tell them what you want. See if they can give you a sample of the foundation. Then buy what you think you might use more frequently. I always like a good lipstick and mascara.
There are a lot of threads discussing Target and Drug store brands as well that don't cost a ton.
also, make sure to bring a good makeup remover. You can get travel packs of facial towels.
I would ask the Bride or Maid of Honor what scheduled events will take place. Then plan outfits.

I have freckles, too, and I hate how foundation looks on my skin. I use a tinted moisturizer (Nars for high end, Neutrogena for a cheaper option). If you get your makeup done you could ask for a tinted moisturizer or a foundation with sheer/light coverage.

Also, for clothes you could get some black tights and tall boots and a couple more dresses that you could wear with them. If it's going to be cold, sweater-y dresses can look really nice and still be warm. A nice coat would be good to have, too.

As far as the car goes, I guess it would depend on where you are staying and where you would need to go. If the wedding venue is pretty close by or there are others staying in the same place who can give you a ride to events, then it would make sense to just use Lyft for airport transfers and short distances. It's relatively inexpensive and convenient. Much easier than using a taxi, you just use the app to request a driver and put in the address you are going to, they pick you up and use GPS to find where you are going, and then they drop you off. You pay within the app, so it's very streamlined.
